WITCH HAT ATELIER CHAPT 45+ SPOILERS ART

does anybody have any particular arkco or orufrey songs for me to add to. playlists
my orufrey playlist so far, they all scream them so hard imo
in particular, I recommend I'm Your Man, Stay // Honestly, At The Beach, In Every Life, Sun, Faster, and They Shoot Horses but I like them all
lots of stay and/or waiting motifs
something i just noticed because of a re-read (and the characters proximity), but looky here
both of them have this sort of "division" symbol in association with an "eye" (sasaran's actual eye, and iguin's mask). i dont know if this particular sign/sigil has been revealed elsewhere, but i thought it was interesting. perhaps iguin's eye mask is more than just decoration. (also im just now realizing the eye mask uses a bunch of circles in the design. perhaps that is also a seal of some kind? i think its possible there could also be a circle that functions as a sigil rather than an actual circle. meaning their mask could be a contraption of sorts)
anyway no clue what this means, but i thought it was an interesting detail wait hold on i just thought of smth as i typed this out.
one of sasaran's eyes is most likely the one on his hat. perhaps that seal on his face moves the location of the object it touches, thereby allowing sasaran to see from his cloak puppet.
on top of that, iguin refers to themself as the "eye of the world" and "the lidless one". perhaps their own eye (and im thinking it might be just be One for clone theory reasons) isn't actually contained within their body? not only would that allow them to view "the world" far beyond their body, an eye plucked from a face is, by its very nature, lidless.
EDIT: HOLY SHIT I FOUND SOMETHING ELSE LITERALLY RIGHT AFTER. LOOK AT EUINI'S ANTI-SCALEWOLF MEDALLION
COMPUTER. ENHANCE THAT BITCH
ITS ALMOST THE SAME FUCKING DESIGN, WITH A RING MISSING. WHAT THE FUCK DOES ANY OF THIS MEAN
(its not the forbidden tattoo design btw, its just the back of the medallion, not the spell itself but STILL. there is SOMETHING abt this design motif)
it's a sign seemingly also used in the flame spell coco drew at the beginning of the story, one which isn't normally seen in flame spells
the manga is a little unclear but the anime makes a point to have qifrey using the normal pyreball spell right before showing the "forbidden" one
I have no idea what this could mean
[WHA spoilers]
(Please do not read this if you have not finished reading the Witch Hat Atelier manga — you should experience the plot's surprises for yourself!) For the context look at official atelier new merchandise featuring each character's image flower. Qifrey is holding Campanula Incurva.
Now go ask Google about this flower and how to care for it :) From my research, this plant has heart-shaped leaves covered in fine silvery hairs. It is monocarpic, meaning it dies after its flowering season. It begins as a compact rosette, but as it matures, its stems elongate and trail beautifully over rocks or containers. It prefers a sunny location, but not harsh, scorching direct sunlight. Some light shade is beneficial. Good airflow is also important to keep its leaves dry. When handling the plant, it’s best to wear gloves, as the tiny hairs may cause mild irritation to sensitive skin, though it isn’t poisonous.
I hope you understand what I mean :) :) :)
"I wonder why we never saw Qifrey's bedroom?"
He doesn't have one. He sleeps in a tiny closet on the cold stone floor in order to minimise the life threatening feelings of comfort and safety
btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
a quick agott reading, I hope we get to see this outfit again
guys guys guys hear me out
What if the reason Qifrey is going blind isn't because he was blind before - it's because the silverwood tree literally bleaches him of pigment.
Walk with me here. Lack of pigment in the eye can cause photophobia (sensitivity to light, glares) and iris transillumination (excess light entering the eye). Both cause significant discomfort and severe vision issues even in normally lit conditions.
Both also have long-term adverse effects, as the retina is damaged by long-term exposure to light (source)(yes it's wikipedia, who are you, my highschool english teacher? sue me)
Qifrey's vision issues have to do with specifically light senstivity, after all.
And we can see that one of the adverse effects of the silverwood tree is leaching pigment - it's the first thing Qifrey notices about Custas.
We also know that these effects are made vastly worse by coming back from partial tree-ification: Custas' hair goes white after he nearly fully trees out and is brought back, and we know for a fact Qifrey has been pushed to the point of tree'ing several times and had his mind wiped several times before he is found in the coffin.
I thought I was being paranoid at first, but look at the covers Qifrey features on as well:
His eye IS getting paler. They're more silver than they are blue in the volume cover of 12 vs the volume cover of 3.
All this was started because it makes no sense to me why the silverwood wouldn't "fix" the eyesight the way it fixed his shoulder or Custas' legs if that was truly the reason why he was given the seed in the first place:
Now you could say "well he doesn't remember, that COULD have been the reason", but I genuinely don't think it is. After all, he has it to thank for both of his eyes.
By living with the parasite for so long, it's leaching everything from him - but it's also forcing him to slow down. Taking his eyesight is in the parasite's best interest in the way that it forces a person to settle. That's just side-faff though.
Another thing pointing to loss of pigmentation causing all this:
When the branches are healthy, they're silver white.
yeah anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk i am so normal about this manga
I think this is my favorite art piece I've done in a While, also another concept that has been rattling around in the ol' noggin for a week
I've been trying to get this specific pose out of my brain and on the page for a week now,, so much that what this one started turning out well I stayed up until 4 am to finish it
I need to become this man right now
sometimes artists worry if their art is actually capable of making the world a better place, or if its all just wasted effort. what you need to remember is: all art is evil, and the sole aspiration of the artist should be to maim as many onlookers as possible.
I've consistently watched reactions for WHA since I started the anime around when the 5th episode came out, and I gotta say. a lot of people are exposing how much they either don't actually pay attention or have poor literary critical thinking skills..
to preface: the anime was my first introduction to the series, I started reading the manga after I think episode 8 and have since caught up. I never really had any confusion regarding the magic system, even when watching it the first time
okay, so let's get into the rant.. I've seen probably half a dozen people think that there is still some sort of mana or "chosen one" aspect to the magic system. first of all, there are two seperate explanations that say otherwise, that all you need is the silverwood ink and the seals. these explanations are fairly early on so maybe people just forget about them after a little while? either way, both the anime and manga do make a point to say this twice so that (hopefully) theres no confusion
the point at which most people start having these ideas, however, seems to be around episode 8 when iguin is shown mixing his blood with coco's ink. for some reason, despite being in an episode that also explains how you can mix other things to make the base ink have different affects, a lot of people take this to mean iguin's (and by extension the brimedcaps' and coco's?) blood is special. I would forgive it if most the time this was just a thought during that one scene but the fact it seems to continue after the dye explanations and qifrey's not so smart demonstration of the ink's power is baffling to me. first, you were already told that's not how magic works in this universe. second, the explanation happens in the exact same episode.
theres some other, somewhat smaller things people keep getting confused with (pretty much all of them in episode 8 for some reason). one being tartah's silverwash eyes and the how and why that seemingly prevents him from being a witch. again, the explanation about the dyes is literally in the same episode. the people saying he could just use basic ink seem to also forget that coco couldnt tell her new slightly blue ink apart from the old one, resulting in a whole riverbed being dried up. also, qifrey's explanation of silverwash at the end clearly states how the witch community is just generally unaccommodating. making it difficult for him to be a witch.
lastly, before episode 9 came out, a lot of people were confused on if nolnoa's memories of the light were erased. I don't know if it was just me, but even though the thought of qifrey killing nolnoa did cross my mind in that scene (mostly because of how close to the railing he was), by the time qifrey set down the ink I'd figured out he was erasing his memories. and the scene at the end confirms it, and tells us that qifrey only erased his memory about the light (and forbidden ink). even without the ending scene, it's obvious that's what he's doing because of the fact we just saw memory erasure magic at the start of that episode. from a storytelling perspective, it's obvious we would get that payoff.
also, a small small one I saw only one person confused about. he thought that forbidden ink was *only* cast with the blood ink... all I'm going to say is, if you can't manage to read all the subtitles or have a little bit of a hard time processing the information, it's kind of stupid to also have the stuck-up opinion that the sub is always better and that watching anime dubbed is cringe. I personally watch dubbed with subtitles because I sometimes have a hard time processing information
anyway, rant over. I think the problem is probably the need to speak every thought you have when reacting, and everyone has stupid thoughts. but some people are reallllyy showing how much the actually pay attention with WHA, since its a somewhat complicated story and magic system..
Qifrey is Such A Character because I'm like twenty chapters in to witch hat atelier and pretty much the only things he's done has been have whimsical little cottagecore picnics, be nice to children, and have category 9 domestic events with the whole adult man who lives in his attic. And somehow he does all of this whilst projecting an aura of horrible, tangible sadness. Mans is frolicking in meadows and giving the general impression of a haunted victorian orphan. He's cooking sweet potatoes and I fully expected him to tell the reader he was waterboarded as a child. He's entrancing.
