also what if that bard was a strange combo of lawful evil and chaotic good

when you try your best and you don’t succeeeed

gained ultimate power, overthrew an entire kingdom, put the heroes into a deep slumber, but still got his ass handed to him by the guy he was trying to stop all along

as it turns out acting like an evil overlord isn’t a great first step to stopping the king of all evil

actually a good guy, really. just with a tendency for one man coups.

became the actual ultimate evil in an alternate timeline though so could also be a bad guy if the opportunity was given to him

kind of embarrassed about getting his ass kicked? please just. don’t ask about it.

assumption is that he’d be able to walk UNDISTURBED through the city streets, that he’s easy to notice among most of the citizenry. for how could he not be? very few reach a taller height than he, and fewer still were larger than his transformed state — oh how LOVELY it would be to unlock such a skill … patience now …. patience. but, he supposes, he shouldn’t underestimate the REMARKABLE abilities other have to keep to their own thoughts. to keep their heads low and minds OVERFLOWING.

with great reflex, he tightens his hand upon his drink, not even spilling a SINGLE drop, as he collides with another. a swivel of his gaze immediately lower, lips curling as if he’s witnessed recently SOURED milk. the little man who talks so boldly doesn’t even appear to have the strength to back it up. furthermore … hasn’t ganondorf seen him before? why, if the stranger is to be ignorant, then so shall he. ganondorf doesn’t budge from the other’s path, choosing instead to IDLY sip at his warm beverage.

❝is that a … threat? i could say the SAME about your tongue, little man,❞ he responds in a voice that merely hints at being MOCKING, a voice that dares the other to fight. ❝i’m SURPRISED you’ve lived this long, if this is how you TREAT men three times your size.❞

As soon as the other man stares down at him, Octavo feels a chill run down his spine. That gaze, that tone, all of it is a telltale sign that this man doesn’t care about Octavo, thinks little more of him than an ant he might crush on the sidewalk. There is a mocking lilt to his words, though, as if he’s amused by Octavo’s insolence. Octavo decides he hates it.

He ignores the logical voice in his head, the one telling him to bow his head and walk away. This is a fight he can’t win, and somewhere in his head, he knows this. In fact, he feels he knows it in a way that’s much too personal, like a sense of deja vu. But his pride is at stake now, so he stands his ground, his words a scoff to mask his uncertainty.

“Surprised? Then you are sorely underestimating me.” His hand remains in his pocket around his baton as he speaks, a lifeline of safety. “The only one speaking threats is you - and for what? I am only advising you keep your eyes ahead of you. Or has your height kept your head so in the clouds you fail to see what is right in front of you?”

To be honest, Aloy hadn’t been sure if she’d actually stay in the house provided. Sure, it was comfy and interesting, but she much preferred wandering place to place, and ever since Rost died, nowhere’s really felt right to live. At least being camped out under the stars never felt wrong.

Excited as she was to keep exploring, though, she found that it’d be kind of stupid to spend her first nights in new terrain out in the dark and cold when there was a perfectly good house to rest her head. She’d just have to suck it up for a bit. It wasn’t all that bad, anyhow. There were more cool new things in the house that she had yet to mess with and learn about, that’d surely occupy her mind and maybe even tire her out after a bit.

When she came on back to the house and headed for the kitchen after another long day of exploration, though, Aloy was surprised to see someone waving a baton at her from the stairwell. She blinked a few times, and squinted at Octavo. He didn’t look human, but he also didn’t look like a machine. Was this one of her housemates? She stared at him bewilderedly, and slowly pulled bread out of the fridge. “..Aloy,” She finally answered, still staring all the while.

For a moment, Octavo regarded this stranger with a silent glare. It was... difficult to get a read on whether or not she posed a threat. She didn’t seem to be Hylian, or any of the other races that lived in Hyrule. If anything, she seemed most like that stranger - Cadence, he thought - who had fallen out of a different world. What was it she was...? Ugh, he couldn’t remember.

When he finally spoke, it was with an air of caution. He kept his baton out, ready to strike should he need to.

“Aloy, is it? Well, Aloy, what is it you are doing here? What is that--”

Octavo paused, his gaze falling on what Aloy had in her hand. It seemed to be bread, but from what was she pulling it from? The thing behind her seemed like some sort of storage for food, but it shone brightly, its surface glossy and sleek. There was certainly nothing like that in Hyrule.

 -squak! Of course there is you idiot! Would you not be fucking insulted if people thought you were pets? what if we kept referring to you as a child!- huggin warns, looking downright irritated for a bird. Very expressive, as they say. Odin himself did not care so long as they do the job they were created to do. 

 “Always think before you say something.” the white one warns. 

This black crow is absolutely testing Octavo’s patience. He crosses his arms over his chest, regarding it with a mild glare. Would it be best to still his tongue now and keep his thoughts to himself? Most likely. But Octavo is prickly at the best of times, and now is certainly not the best of times.

“I’ve apologized already, have I not?” He had not, technically, but he wasn’t thinking of that just yet.

“I don’t need some overgrown pigeon telling me how I ought to act. And how dare you lecture me on manners when you are swearing and insulting me with every other word you say?!”

the good thing about being as stoic as him, is that Odin is someone who will go long lengths without saying anything. this was no mead hall where socialization was required, he lacked his powers here. But that doesn’t mean his standards will lower. 

 “Squak!!!! Pets! how dare you.” it was the black crow that spoke, Huggin. Indignant as ever as he flaps his wings , nearly pelting the other with his wing spam. 

“Ack--!!”

As used to magic and strange creatures as he is, Octavo thinks he ought to have considered the possibility that those birds were not mere birds, but he is still caught off guard when the black crow nearly smacks him in the face with a wing.

“I-- I beg your pardon!” he huffs, crossing his arms over his chest. “There’s no reason react like that.”

He knows he ought to apologize for the mistake, but his pride gets in the way. “It was a mere assumption. I don’t mean to offend.” His words hold a tinge of annoyance, his gaze flickering from the crow to the man who remains silent. It seems he has an incredibly odd neighbor.

The world Octavo has found himself in is strange. It is home to people from worlds he can’t even imagine and technologies that overwhelm his senses. He hasn’t even quite made sense yet of the device he was given upon arrival. He’s been told by now that is it is a phone and that it can be used to contact people, but it seems more magic than anything to him. 

The ward he’s been housed in is particularly beyond his realm of knowledge. The buildings are taller than he’s ever seen, and the structure of them is unlike anything he’s seen. He’s not sure if he likes it, so he decides to visit another ward for the time being.

It’s as he’s walking, one hand gripping his baton in his pocket, that he nearly collides with another. He is about to simply step to the side and continue, but he finds himself rooted to the spot.

The man before him has an overwhelming presence, one that is terrifyingly familiar though at a glance, Octavo is sure he hasn’t met this man before. But even his appearance seems familiar, as if Octavo has seen him somewhere before. His expression twists to hide his suspicion (and, though he won’t admit it, mild fear) with a frown. 

“...You ought to watch where you’re going or someone could get hurt.”

There is a man standing on the porch of the house next door. Octavo isn’t certain what to make of him. He’s been standing a while, and Octavo has wondered if he ought to say something. Hello, maybe, or a good day to you, but he’s not exactly the most sociable of people, and this man... Well, he’s not sure, but he feels strange. 

But, seeing as they appear to be neighbors, there’s a limit to how long Octavo can go without interacting with him. Might as well bite the bullet now, he thinks.

“...Those are some interesting pets you’ve got there.”

Just how many people was he meant to live with??

This new person hadn’t been at the house when Octavo had arrived, but he had noticed that there were signs of someone already living in the place when he’d done his own investigating, but he’d been a bit preoccupied with other worries to think much on it.

But now the other occupant was here, and Octavo was standing awkwardly in the foyer with an uncertain, not quite hostile expression. He’d come to realize that it was unlikely that the people living with him were going to be a threat, but he couldn’t help but keep his guard up.

“...Pardon me,” he eventually said. “I’m assuming you are the other occupant of this house?”

What a strange place he’d landed himself in.

Octavo was not accustomed to travel between worlds, but it was a concept he’d studied up on and theorized about when he’d first began studying magic. In theory, with enough power, it was possible. In fact, when he’d traveled through time to a desolate future, that was itself a form of world traveling. But it had been more basic, staying within the same realm, simply on different paths in time. 

This place, though... this was a new realm entirely. Octavo found himself surrounded by things he couldn’t even identify, technology beyond what existed in Hyrule. The strange device he’d been given upon arrival was just one of many things that he had no knowledge on. It was frustrating, and Octavo hated to be frustrated.

Still, stewing in his own annoyance wouldn’t do him much good, so he’d taken the strange vehicle to the place he was apparently meant to stay.

He was in the midst of exploring the place when a noise from downstairs set him on alert. Cautiously, he descended the stairs, baton out, just in case. When his gaze fell on the back of another person, his expression hardened.

“You there,” he demanded. “Who are you and what are you doing here?”
