I decided to revive my Tumblr, mostly because I low-key fear the day I'll get driven away from...
I need to squeal over Bog and Marianne's moment of amorous adornment with the blue blossom. And not merely due to its sheer adorableness, but the fleeting, easily missable micro-motions that add so much to its impact. 🥰
When Bog places the flower into Marianne's hair, he strokes the long point of her ear with his index. It bounces back a wee bit when he removes his finger. But that's not all...
When he shifts that paw, her collar performs that same, tiny bounce. Some of those curled fingers were behind it. Whilst the plant fabric doesn't cling to her skin, due to the immensity and length of his digits they must have been touching her neck and hair.
But there's more! He brushes the bare skin between her shoulder and the collar when he withdraws his paw. Again there's a minuscule impact. And what that thumb does...
This physical endearment grants her after-reaction more meaning. She's trailing her digits along the path of his caress, showing how much she relished it.
This "feeling Bog's touch" effect isn't the first of its ilk either. When their hands clack together at "I never trust anybody!", she brushes the exact spot that connected with his skin with her right. Another wee instant easy to overlook.
Whilst an utter dork lord, I love how Bog doesn't blench at caressing Marianne in this semi-secluded setting. It's utterly different from the pressure of the raucous audience of several species at the end, which furthermore includes the Fairy King.

This right here is why I'm worried about this new adaptation. It's not that I don't want them to lean into certain aspects of the 80's version. It's not that I even need to watch it (or like it). Whatever happens in the live action will mean nothing because we'll still have SPOP 2018. But ever since spop came out in 2018, there have been countless people who's main critique is the fact that Adora is a lesbian (also that they didn't find her to be feminine enough but those two kinda go hand in hand). There are so many reddit threads, tik tok and twitter posts, and conversations in other corners of the internet that love to talk about how horrendous it was that they made the main female character in a show a lesbian. That there's a FMC that has no attraction or romantic ties to men. So that's why I'm worried. It won't ruin anyone in the fandoms experience, we'll still have SPOP. We'll still have catradora. But it still would suck so bad to see these kinds of conversations start making rounds across the internet again.
Adora (and Catra, but Adora as the main character especially) was so huge for the queer, and especially sapphic, community. And to erase that would suck. I completely get that in the original show she wasn't queer, and if that's what they're sticking to that's fine. But a lack of a sapphic FMC will make a certain group of people very happy.
And to anyone who really, really hates the 2018 remake for reasons that are valid and not homophobic: that's fine! I get it, sometimes certain media just isn't someone's cup of tea. But we all know what really made everyone mad. It's blatantly obvious and no one tries to hide it.
My heart dropped when she sent me the twitter video of Adora in the new MOTU movie. I cant tell you how ive been struggling to grasp this all day. If I was worried about the new movie before, I am quaking in my boots now.
She-Ra has been such a blessing and a light in the queer community, and to see it being erased and have that erasure celebrated is a gut punch.
God forbid a woman love whoever she wants!
It doesnt matter, because we will keep celebrating our She-Ra, and we need more people to join us.

The peril of predicting where TADC is going to go based on its actual themes and storytelling is that I have a lot of WIP art/comics that are not spoilers *now*, simply because I haven't seen the finale yet. But once I see the finale tomorrow and the things are confirmed, they will be spoilers. Because I will be right. A predicament. And then do I refrain from posting those things, even if I've had them drafted for weeks? SMH, SMH.

Being a Shadow Weaver fan is rough man because on 2/3 it's chill, you have people who genuinely enjoy her writing and find her hot
and then the other 1/3d is the most degenerate, disgusting, immoral pieces of scum you have ever seen plague the earth (aka either ship her with fucking GLIMMER or try to be abuse apologists.)
Sorry guys, as much as I love her Shadow Weaver is NOT a good person and just because she has a past doesn't give her an excuse of her behavior towards others. I enjoy making her suffer a little sometimes.
On the plus side, having a narcisstic and emotionally abusive father really helps you understand and love her writing more, but it also infuriates me even more when people misunderstand her character and how NPD works
