We're just human
Thinking about Buck's endlessly traumatic relationship with medical personnel.
Where all the other characters are shown to regularly attend in-person therapy, Buck sticks with zoom therapy because the first and last time he had an in-person therapist she slept with him during the session. Where Hen was chastised for trying to treat herself and where Maddie checked herself into an actual rehab facility, for Buck the gang decides it's best to build a home-grown rehab facility around him instead.
Buck being born to have his bone marrow harvested as an infant. His parents' insistent hatred of hospitals shoved in his face every time he's hurt. Maddie's abusive husband being a doctor. Malicious imaginary coma-dream Daniel being a doctor. Getting his leg crushed and being told by his doctors that his dreams are coming to an end. Getting screws in his leg and almost dying from the embolism they caused. Trying to escape the never-ending stretching halls of the hospital in his coma dream. Getting obliterated by a car-crash-kidnapping combo, being taken to the hospital, and being prescribed opioids that he immediately gets addicted to. And when he talks to an actual doctor about the problem he practically gets told to fuck off and figure it out.
At first I really thought it was kind of sweet and whimsical that they were all doing a DIY rehab for Buck at home but when you actually look at the receipts it all stacks up into a heaping pile of Oh, shit.
if nothing else, 911 is able to portray addiction with love and sensitivity. and they are doing it better than just about any other show ive ever seen that featured addiction.
It's the thing that ties us all together, so that no one person has to carry the weight alone.

also. god. i LOVE that they touched on the way grief anniversaries can sneak up on you. and how much they affect you even if you're not consciously aware of it. even years later you can be going through your week and everything feels like it's going wrong and you can't seem to get out of whatever rut you're stuck in and you don't know why, but then you happen to glance at the calendar and you realize it's the fifth anniversary of the day your friend died or you got in a crazy car accident or any number of things. the way your brain and your body keeps track of it even when it's not on your mind.
Hey, what do you think the disciplinary committee's gonna do to me? I think they're gonna take it seriously, but also take into consideration that you reported yourself.
I’m also still here.
Because yes it’s such an intimate flirty moment between them (which seems to be happening in an increasingly amount this season)
But Eddie’s breathy little laugh a smile? Do I think there is romantic feelings aspects to it? Yes. The way he’s looking at Buck and their flirting I fully think that.
But I am also fully convinced it’s part of him having a moment of “There he is. I was so afraid I lost him in New Mexico. But I finally see that man again. He’s right here. I didn’t leave you there at all”
Pylades: I’ll take care of you. Orestes: It’s rotten work. Pylades: Not to me. Not if it’s you.

The fact that Eddie canonically gets mean when he's hungry makes the fact that Eddie is eating constantly so much better. I bet the 118 regularly has to make sure he's got a little snack. Buck organized a schedule so Eddie doesn't get suspicious about the same people people offering him a little treat. Dinner has gotten moved up on several occasions because Eddie was turning into a gloomy bitch and they all knew he just needed to eat.
Shouldn't it be when you're at your worst, they're at their worst, you have every reason to give up, and you still decide you want to try again?
like buck facing the humiliation of everyone you love knowing about your mistakes and helping you fix them. and hes getting poked and proded and his space is being invaded. and eddie knowing how stressful that must be, being as gentle as he can. being so upbeat, baiting buck into teasing him. the joy on his face when it works. being that thing to ground him and get him out of his head. and make him feel a little more normal in all the chaos. being known and being loved. our buck and eddie
eddie never leaving the frame, save me
i really appreciate the constant reminder of just how observant and brilliant chris is for his age. he's seen way too much death and has been through insane amounts of grief but he never ceases to see the situation in a way that highlights his understanding. chris, who once yelled out his fear that eddie could die on a shift but knew he could never ask eddie to give up firefighting because of it. chris, who says to buck that yeah it sucks having people go through his stuff but would buck trust himself if they didn't search his house. it shows just how much he does understand in such an intense and scary situation. eddie not only brings chris in to show buck that despite everything, he's forever trusted with christopher. eddie's also showing his complete trust in chris who wants to be there for buck.
