"Well...this is an, erm, interesting paper to read. Very...ahem...detailed."
"Eye..- Eye-shagging? Limits are needed, Jayden, limits." a shocked Flynn replied, adjusting his suit’s jacket, "Why would I regard Rachel in such a perspective? My assistant and a very respectful woman, and… a friend, but a very respectful woman….Limits." he remindend Jayden with a sigh as his eyes tried to disconnect form Rachel to at least disguise more, which he didn’t do before and which had helped Jayden notice it. Dammit, people were beggining to notice that she mattered to him, and that was a bad thing. It made him vulnerable to others, a really bad thing. He grabbed a shot that was on a table near them and drank it in one gulp, "We need more alcohol then, don’t we?"
"You should update your thesaurus when it comes to to the word 'eye-shagging'. I do not mean it literally. It's just your eyes are practically glued to her--like a watching mother hen." he chided him, chuckling as his friend's face morphed into what may described as a deer caught in headlights (but damn he hide it so well. How does he do that?) "Look if you care about her, it's fine, it's cool. The question is...how much do you care for her? Friendship level of caring or dateship level of caring? Hold up, that's not even a word, sorry." Jayden scratched his chin, looking thoughtful. "More alcohol please, definitely."
"Oh no I’m gonna go tell him about it soon enough… Oh he can’t stand Sophie because they’re almost exactly alike, she’s just got better people skills… But they’ve never gotten along, and when she vanished for a while I- well, I wasn’t super happy about it, I think he just worries she’ll do it again. If we’re ever official I’m throwing a damn parade"
"Got it. Female version of Flynn--except she has better people skills than him. Sounds like you have a type." he teased, amused hazel eyes flitting back and forth between the two sort-of-couple. "He's just being protective of you, Damian. Weeeeeeeell, overprotective, my bad. If ever you want to knock some sense to him, ring me whenever. Ooooh! I'll be the planner of that parade if you want me to!"
"I— I’m sorry, I can’t do this. I’m sorry I took your time," she whispered, turning away from him. She opened and closed her mouth a few times to add something, but in the end she only shook her head. "I’m glad you’re okay after that though.. I— I’ll see you around, Jayden," she said after breathing out loud a couple of times.
"It was very ironic when he--or she, I wasn't sure--attacked me. Well, on my part anyways." Jayden blurted out, not quite sure what prompted him to talk about that one thing he never talks about to anyone (not even Georgie, not even Flynn) ever. But the sight of her slipping away, leaving him in the cold oppressive room (it is used to be warm and sunny, what have changed?) was like a direct stab in the chest. "I was singing Thunderstruck when someone hit me with a spell that literally electrocuted me. I tried fighting for the sake of our daughter, but it was all in vain since...since I was comatose'd for weeks. Leaving her quite defenseless."
But…! He’s busy, can’t you see? He’s already talking to someone, I don’t want to bother him…
"Of course I can see him! I may have glasses, but I am not blind!" he chuckled. "Maybe wave at him when he caught your eye then approach him."
"She steals glances at me?" He smiled a little. "But Sir, I’m not exactly the best dancer."
"Yep." he said, popping the letter "P". "Who cares about being the best dancer? What matters most you're good enough to dance with her."
Make Your Face Funny For Money
"I mean sort of because it’s not official yet I mean… I told her I like her and we’ve been… Y’know, being all a couple and stuff, but no Flynn doesn’t know, it was only a few days ago… Christ don’t tell him, I’d like to enjoy this for a while before he repeats his lecture about how much he dislikes her and I have to pretend like I get his reasons"
Jayden quirked a smug brow at the mention of "all couple and stuff" but kept his mouth shut. "Alright, alright. Of course I won't tell Flynn--it's your secret to tell. Just don't let other people inform him first, okay? ANd why does Flynn dislikes Sophie so much, anyways?" he took a bite of his banoffee pie. "Okay. Just tell me whenever you two are official so I can buy you a drink and celebrate it."
"I-I wasn’t doing anything."
Jayden gave him a look. "Honestly, Tyler, if you want to ask my daughter out for a dance--I'm not stopping you. Merlin knows how much stealing-glances-when-the-other-one-is-not-looking I have to endure with you two."
"A dance? I’d only step on her feet."
"Who says dancing is all about slow dancing? Look at Damian over there, doing his signature moves around Sophie--and they look fine. Having fun, even."
"Good! Because people round here… Awfully dramatic you know, mountains out of mole hills and what not"
"'Mountains out of mole hills'? Really? And you call the other people here being dramatic."
Flynn sighed and stood more determined as he looked around at the view of students walking by, various professors and staff members, including his assistant and best friend as her golden hair shinned with the reflexes of the lights around the event’s environment, “…Hm, no, still as puzzled as before, Jayden. We haven’t consumed big amounts yet, but perhaps the alcohol is taking its effect on our observational skills?”
"Cheeky, you are." he grinned knowingly, amused at Flynn's (rather clever) deflection. "But I don't need to induce large amounts of alcohol to notice you eye-shagging a certain blonde Gryffindor who--coincidentally--concotes brilliant cups of coffee in every sideway glances as possible.."
She slowly turned around to look back at him, suddenly being a bit scared about staying with him just on her own. “I was but… I don’t even where to start.. I can’t be objective about it..,” she mumbled.
"You can." he said, leveling his gaze towards her face. "Just--I dunno--pretend I'm someone else. Don't let our...past affect your work, please."
"She’s working! Besides I sort of- I mean… I think I’m sort of seeing her now anyway"
"I swear to God, if you don't approach her, I will be a good friend and push you the--WHAT?" he did a double take, looking slightly comical as his jaw hit the ground. "You two are dating? Since when? Does Flynn know? And what do you mean by 'sort of'?"
"…She’s pretty! You keep your mouth shut about this now sir"
"Oi!" he exclaimed, looking affronted. "I may not be the guidance counselor, but I do recognize the whole client confidentiality."
Trailing off, Tate hit himself mentally and went with the best defence he had. Deflection. “She’s just a friend.”
"Damian, Flynn and I are friends, but we're not making googly, longing eyes with each other." he raised an amused brow. "What I am saying is: go ask her to dance with you. It's a party after all, it's your chance."
Rachel squinted at Jayden in disbelief. “Are you insane? What am I supposed to do, hum? Really, tell me, because I have no bloody idea…”
"You've been staring at Frank ever since this party started--and yes, stealing sideway glances count." he pointed out, hiding his amusement behind his cup. "Also, you look like you really wanted to talk to him. Sooo, why not talk to him? Parties are great places to strike up a conversation...sometimes."
