Finally, the book is out! 

This explains why I have been out of Tumblr all this time. Last year, I joined an amigurumi contest hosted by Amigurumipatterns.net with my creation, Skippy the Kangaroo Mailman. She didn't make it to the top but suddenly, the owner of the site contacted me to ask if she can have Skippy published in a book. This is the first time that my work has been published and I have never felt so happy and proud! 

Here's a short description of Skippy the Kangaroo:

Skippy K. Hoppings is the fastest pair of legs in the west! Delivering packages and letters at near-lightning speed and sunny disposition, she is the epitome of good service with a smile. Her roomy pouch keeps her precious deliveries safe as she hops from one home to another along the dusty tracks of the Outback. Skippy wears her bright blue cap with pride and is the friendliest kangaroo you'll ever meet. 

Now my design is up there among the other 14 creations, Please support me and the designers by buying the book during the pre-sale campaign. You can grab your copy here.

For the meantime, I am making plans of opening an Etsy shop to sell Skippy's pattern and eventually other creations I'll make in the future. I hope you guys can support me with this!

Update in a looooong while / Panda Key-chains!

Wow, I've been out of tumblr activity for a while and suddenly, I have new followers? Thanks guys~ You just made my day! I'll try my hardest to be more diligent now that I've settled some real life problems out. 

For the moment, here's a quick picture of a commissioned amigurumi project. Panda key-chains! It's one of the first for me to build smaller shapes and use embroidery floss as yarn. It certainly is a challenge that I'd love to take on. 

I'll be trying my hand on more pattern writing as I go by crochet now. It's good for remembering how I did things and also for sharing.

Remember me reblogging this post? I actually went in for it and did two entries for the CAL contest. Unfortunately, I didn't win but what's more important for me is how much I've improved as a crocheter thanks to these guys.

Skully Bear's design is made out of complete felt work while Wednesday is my first venture on human-like dolls (I especially enjoyed the braiding). It was also a good feeling being recognized by crochet designers that I look up to. 

There was a total of 37 entries in that contest - all lovely designs by different crafters. You can check out the Halloween-inspired creations here. Thanks to Little Yarn Friends for hosting this small CAL. It was a lot of fun meeting other crafters! 

Now that I've noticed, I've been absent from Tumblr for months that it didn't occur how much I've missed it here. I may be busy with life but it doesn't mean that I've done zero crocheting. I'll be posting all the crochet projects during that time gap soon so stay tuned!

Have been spending a surprisingly lot of time here in Bunch and I was wondering if we can gather more crocheters here so we can talk about projects and stitches and whatnot. The posts may seem very slow there but I'm still seeing a lot of good resources and project nonetheless.

So I'm just wondering if anyone is currently in a crochet group or is planning to join one soon? I'd be glad to check those places out. It's not fun having to crochet by yourself. *sob sob*

Sneak Peek Unveiled! Pokemon Marill Ver 2.0

Hello folks! It's finally time to show the second version of my Marill amigurumi!  He took a bit long to finish because of the modifications that I did with his body parts.

He stands at around 6 inches in height and 5 inches in width. 

He also has an actual tail that protrudes from his back. But because his body is a tad round, it's a bit hard to keep this blue mouse still. He really keeps on rolling everytime I tried to stand him up!

I kept the detail of the ball tail as closest to the original as I possibly can - with the black slim cord shaped like a lightning-zig-zag up to the rounded tip. It is also completely movable if you want to shorten or extend the tail's length.

Here's a back view of the water fairy Pokemon. The tail won't touch the ground as long as you position it to be. Just hope that Marill wouldn't come rolling in the process~

 Like any other playful mouse, Marill likes to mess around with his "playthings". Unfortunately, his build wouldn't allow him to fit ihis whole body into the bracelet. Haha!

Here's the last shot with Marill waving farewell. This won't be the last of him though as I plan on making some of his Pokemon friends who he can play with.

If you have any Pokemon project requests, don't hesitate to drop an Ask message. I'd appreciate any suggestions. It helps me keep the creative juice flowing (and keeping me updated with the latest Pokemons - I've only known the 150 and a couple from the mid generations. For shame *sobs*).

Just wanted to share a small story about how these bears were brought to life:

A few months ago, I wanted to join a Crochet-along (CAL) with a group of crocheters over at Lil' Yarn Friends but unfortunately, I didn't have a tumblr account yet at that time and I later learned that the CAL deadline was actually over even before I started. Even so, I wanted to pursue this project in hopes of making a teddy bear for my own. The result? A squishable white polar bear.

I have only noticed halfway through the body that I have unintentionally made a few tweaks. Back when I started, I had limited knowledge before about how different plies of yarn works with projects so what was suppose to be a little bear turned out to be a standard-sized huggable teddy! I used an F hook and a Caron Simply Soft worsted weight yarn for a soft plushie, contrary to the E hook and DK yarn that was stated in the pattern. I also stuffed the legs a bit only to find out that the instructions didn't call for it - Yikes! Either way, it did make the bear's legs have a bit of dimension than what was intended so I'm glad that I did that.

A month after putting this bear on display in the living room, my mom commented that the bear should have a companion so that he wouldn't be too lonely sitting at the banister. That's when I decided to make him a female partner. Learning from experience, I used a hook one size smaller this time with the same yarn brand and added in the eyelashes to make her look feminine. I tried to make her a bit smaller just so there's a height difference between the bears.

A minor detail on the bows, they aren't even store-bought. The bows came in from a free wedding card sampler package. I find it funny how it fits them well together, like a teddy husband and wife!

So from then on, I call these bears Papa and Mama bear happily married to each other~

In lieu to the revamping of my old Marill project, I did a little sketch and color on the closest Marill amigurumi I'm making. The little bump on the head wasn't intentional. Eeep >_<;
