Bejeweled Moghul Kard Dagger
Dated: circa 1690
Culture: Indian, Moghul
Medium: Burma rubies, white jade, gold and Damascus steel
Measurements: 11 1/4” length. Blade: 7” length
This 17th-century Moghul knife, known as a kard, boasts an exquisite white jade handle covered with rare Burma rubies and engraved gold. The pommel features a large cabochon Burma ruby set in gold, and a fine Damascus blade.
An elegant knife such as this would have likely been commissioned for a high-ranking official or nobleman in the Moghul Empire, and would have been worn as part of his formal attire.
Sidenotes:
The Moghul Empire was the dominant power in the Indian subcontinent between the mid-16th century and the early 18th century. Founded in 1526, the empire officially survived until 1858, when the last remnant of the empire was absorbed into the British Raj. The Moghul artistic tradition was eclectic, borrowing from the European Renaissance as well as from Persian and Indian sources.
The Moghul painters, architects, and designers derived individual motifs and certain naturalistic effects from Renaissance and Mannerist design, but their basic structuring principle was derived from Indian and Persian traditions. Hailing from a culture known for resplendent artistry, this knife successfully elevates weapons craftsmanship to a brilliant art form.

" —- sweet mother mercy, do they have those here? No, listen. Don’t dick me around. I would slaughter the competition in a comedian contest. I am so funny.”
❝Maybe that contest might be too dangerous too though. You might end up making people to laugh themselves to death, your jokes are just too slayin'❞
He laughed, shaking his head before shrugging.
❝There is a storytelling contest.. there might be a comedy one too... Or we start one.❞
"Apparently I’m not allowed into the melee incase I — quote — ‘start ripping off jaws again.’”
“Sounds like a boring melee anyway, right?”
❝... maybe you should join a comedian contest. You say the strangest and most amusing things.❞
