“Am I dating a man who can’t swim?” Diedre pushed her way through the water over to him. “I promise I won’t let you sink.”

“You’re not going to drown in the shallow end, you know.”

“I’m glad you like it darling,” he leaned in to kiss her, before holding out his hand for hers 

She slipped her hand in his and tugged him along. “Now where are we going for dinner?”

“It’s a lovely surprise, thank you.”

“I’ve spoken tae Iago and he trusts Clara, so so do I,” she smiled, “Thank Di. I’m excited tae be doing something different ye ken?” 

“Alright.” She wasn’t sure if there was ever going to be a time where she just trusted the other packs’ intentions without concerns. “It’s always exciting starting a new job. Do you know when you start?”

“It’s basically a promotion, I thought you’d be happy for me,” she sat back in her seat after their reaction to the news she might be leaving her job at the mundane hospital.

“I just worry about the connections to the Heavies. But if this is good for you, then of course I’m happy for you.” She reached across the table and squeezed her hands.

“I’m fine,” she shrugged. Honestly she tried not to think too much about the last 6 months. “I mean it sucks but da’s where he needs to be right now, I trust Bran. I just hate that people here are villainising him,” 

“I know.” She rubbed circles into Jesse’s arm. “It still feels weird for me too. But he’s getting help, and that’s what is important. Sometimes we have to focus on that.”

“It’s just my mom, I’ll call her back later,” she said, declining the call

Diedre looked sadly at the phone before wrapping an arm around Jesse’s shoulder. “How are you holding up? I know the last 6 months haven’t been easy on you.”

He nodded, “At least I am these days,” he gave her a lazy smile. Ab pressed up into the kiss, letting it draw out as long as he could. As they parted he met her eyes with his and gave into the urge to say something aloud that he wasn’t sure he’d said before, “I love you,” he kept his voice low as he spoke those words. 

Her eyes flicked around his entire face instinctively. Trying to see if there was any signs of lying, when there wasn’t a smile beamed off her face and she leaned in for another kiss. “I love you too.”

“So you say,” he teased, “Come on, tell me about him or I’m just going to go down to that hospital of there’s and find out for myself,”

Di rolled her eyes, but relented. “There’s not much to say. We met before their pack left, dated before quietly. Reconnected when they cam back and started dating.”

“I’m an easy man to please darling - all I need is you and my clan,” a slight smile tugged at his lips, “Good. Can I kiss you now?”

“Are you really?” Diedre’s hand rubbed a circle into his chest. “I’d really like it if you did.” She leaned further over his shoulder and pressed a slow kiss to his lips.

“I want all the details,” he said, offering her his arm, “Got to make sure he’s worthy of you Di,”

She took it with a smile and shook her head. “Of course he’s worthy. I’ve got great taste in men.”

He chuckled, “I would not want to try,”

Iago raised his eye brows at the forwardness of her question and the way she spoke. “I do not have a problem with it,” he replied because it was the truth, “And I shall speak with his alpha to make sure there are no problems on that front,” he added before addressing her question. “I’m not,” he shook his head, “September is a member of my pack, as is her daughter and as her mate was. I made a promise to him that I would always look after his girls and that’s what I intend to do. Even so it is not my intention to control her and I wouldn’t have forced her to leave the home she had made with my family in Scotland - it was her decision to come,”

“I don’t suppose you would.”

“Astrid is quite aware of us. But I can find you her number if you’d like.” Diedre took in all of the information, and stored it in her mind. She didn’t have any reason to doubt him, but her mind was still processing all the changes. “Sounds good then.”

“Good, I’m glad to hear it,” he used her answer to learn something about her, about what sort of person she was. “As I said, she is always welcome here and I would never stop any of you from seeing her - you are her family after all,”

“Now, I am also told that you are seeing a member of another clan?”

“I doubt you could stop any of us from seeing her if you tried.” She smiled and replied not unkindly.

“I am, he’s the second of the Nimbles. I assume you don’t have a problem with it, considering you’re keeping Sylvie and brought September along. I know that baby isn’t yours, but are you intending for her to be your mate?”

“It is nice, isn’t it,” he agreed with a smile. “Seems like people here are handling the change well? How about you darling, what do you make about all this change?” 

“I suppose so. I’m a little suspicious of it myself.” She flipped the pancakes and walked around to the back of his chair, wrapping her arms around his neck from behind “I was with Adam for years. He wasn’t always the way he was the last few years, I don’t know how I’ll adjust. I’m feeling as restless as I was before.” Diedre’s chin rested on his shoulder as she leaned closer and kissed his cheek. “I don’t know how to fix this.”
