Death. There was no other explanation. They had ripped her limb from limb, feasted on every ligament in sight for the sole purpose of destruction and not consumption. Asuka had been conscious during the whole ordeal. Even as the shell of her mother was shredded before her very eyes, the pain of Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu had been translated into a feed of pure rage for the pilot. Asuka herself could not sense pain anymore -- only fury. Her famous last words. Asuka remembered them well. "I'll kill you... I'll kill you... ... I'll kill you--!" Sweet, sweet death. It should have been her escape, her reward. After everything Asuka had gone through, anyone could see that she needed it. No human could ever survive nor prefer being strewn about like freshly done laundry, could they? "I DON'T WANT TO DIE!" And yet, her heart beat once again. Oxygen filled her lungs slowly, inflating and deflating with each breath she took. What should not exist -- that is, her entire body in itself -- had been restored to that of a perfect replica of her past self, sans the hideous scars and curses. Disbelief settled on her face. A hand wandered shakily to her left eye. She could see through both again -- but how? How had they restored her? The nurse, the ward, everything about her rebirth -- it was all too perfect. And yet, Asuka could not afford to bite the hand that had fed her. Not now, and perhaps not ever, if she wanted to survive out here... wherever this was. She would not question escaping certain death. In any case, she had been chosen, hadn't she? Why else would she have been given a second chance? As much as she tried to reassure herself with that thought, an unavoidable sinking feeling in her gut made her have a rather hard time at rejoicing her own revival. You'll always be second best, Asuka. "... How disgusting."
