Did you finish Part 6? What did you think?
Hmm, yeah. I did watch it. So let’s talk about this.
I am very conflicted about it. As a guy who grew up with Digimon and saw every series & played many games and all, when Tri was first announced this was the biggest hype. And they delivered some- of the hype. This 6th movie was supposed to be the accumulation of everything, and it delivered. Some. Not enough, but some. It had decent pacing for once, and was an alright movie.
If you consider the overall tri, however, this was disappointing in that it solved almost nothing. No reason behind Meikoomon being evil, no Alphamon, no Homeostasis, no Yggdrasil, no Jesmon, no Maki, no 02 kids (showing their silhouette only was a giant fuck you and you know it), like, c’mon. Nothing was solved properly, Meikoomon and Daigo just died out of nowhere and then Meiko moved, oo its over! Thanks for watching Meiko Adventure Tri!
There are so many loose ends and you KNOW that they just didn’t know how to close it all up. Even if they were “leaving it behind purposefully” for the sequel, that’s a terrible way to set up a sequel. You can’t just wrap up absolutely nothing out of all the things you threw out then claim ooh this is for the sequel. Movies that tried to make their own Cinematic Universe kind of shit with bunch of shit unsolved got terrible receptions (new Mummy, Warcraft, etc.)– this is the same crap.
Basically, they spent too much time showing kids in the onsen or some stupid shit like that (I mean I liked that scene and all but was it necessary? Especially when they can’t even wrap their own story properly? This isn’t TVA, you don’t have 50 more episodes to go.) and fucked up both the plot and the kids. (Quick side-note: I like that Tri gave us grown-up, more interesting side of characters, but they were multifaceted characters, not this generic character with only one defining characteristic about them. It was as if tri was trying to shove “OOH KOUSHIRO LIKES TEA” or “TAKERU LOVES WEARING HATS” as a thing)
In the end, I’m glad Tri existed, I’m glad what they’ve done, but this was a poorly put together bullshit. As a lifelong fan of the digimon series, and the adventure series in particular, this was a hot jumbled mess that could’ve, and should’ve been better.
TL;DR:I’m about as happy as the screentime Jyou’s girlfriend got in this/10
