This is a sideblog that I run to blog about all sorts of music. Sometimes I post what I've been listening to over the past week, sometimes I'll share something new that I've found. Occasionally, I'll post a whole playlist of songs, maybe even with some commentary about them, a little like a radio blog.
I love to explore new music, so if you have any recommendations, send them in as an ask. If you want to hear my opinion on the music, leave a note and I'll put out a little review.

It looks like they're only known for 'The night we met' song and it's such a shame!
The very first songs I've heard were 'The ghost on the shore' and 'Meet me in the woods'. I still listen to them with the same appreciation as in the beginning.
Their music feels very nostalgic & uplifting at the same time. They've created a unique style which can't be confused with others.
I truly recommend checking out 'Not dead yet' and 'Love me like you used to' too🫰🏻
I'd be very happy to read your review on Lord Huron if you want to share your thoughts about it!
Hi! Thanks so much for the recommendation and sorry it has taken me a little while to get around to answering it! I've left my thoughts below the break:
I have heard a little of Lord Huron. By far their most known song is The Night We Met, and I believe that is how I first came across them. Looking at their discography, I know I have also heard Ends of the Earth. From what I have heard of their work, I know that I particularly like the harmonies they often use. They evoke in me a feeling of nostalgia and safety; there is a warmth behind their music.
I am taking some time now to listen to your recommendations, and I'll leave my thoughts about them below:
The Ghost on the Shore:
From the first listen, this sounds like a song of yearning to me. There is a desperate want to stay, but something is drawing him away. Again it brings forth the nostalgia that I know Lord Huron for, a strange kind sort of nostalgia that reassures you that everything will be alright, even though you may have to leave things that you can't bear to let go of, whether that be people or places or things. Life is ever changing and you just have to take it a step at a time.
Meet Me in the Woods:
From the first lyrics, I can already tell that I am going to particularly enjoy this one. The twist of darkness that runs through the song is hand in hand with the hopeful sharing of vulnerability. It sounds to me as if it is an answer to The Ghost on the Shore; now that our protagonist has returned, he knows of the darkness that is out there and wants to share the pain in order to lessen the load.
Not Dead Yet:
A very different sound to what I have heard from Lord Huron before, but still very enjoyable. Even with the lyrics speaking of tiredness and everything ending, there is joy behind them. A strange actualised freedom to it.
Love Me Like You Used To:
This song sounds very much like a prayer. It seems to describe loosing belief for something that you've always understood to be true. The singer asks for a God to love him like he used to, how he feels his life is more difficult than it used to be, and perhaps that is through lack of faith. But he wants to witness the love before he can go back to believing, perhaps because he fell out of faith due to the difficult times at the start. Each seems to have caused the other. I suppose this could also be interpreted as being sung to someone in his life, someone who he has maybe not done the best by, but is fighting for a second chance, much like his relationship with God.
Thanks again for that recommendation. I really enjoyed taking a trip through those songs and I think I'll be taking a deeper listen and perhaps adding some into my listening rotation. I hope you enjoyed my ramblings about each one, and I urge everyone to take a listen if they have the time.
hello recommendation!! you've probably already listened to them but if not. car seat headrest. especially making a door less open
Hi! Thanks so much for sending in a recommendation, sorry it has taken me a little while to get to it! My thoughts are below the break:
I do already listen to Car Seat Headrest, and Making a Door Less Open is a fantastic album! I don't think I had taken the time to listen to it in order though, so I took the opportunity to have a listen through the album as it is presented. For me, I feel that Making a Door Less Open really captures the monotony of life and trying to break out of it. It is fun and pessimistic all tied up together (as is a lot of their work). I particularly enjoy Deadlines (Hostile) and Life Worth Missing.
Overall I think this is an album best listened to in a parked car, with heavy rain streaming down the windows (as I am writing this now, the rain has just started pouring down outside, almost as if it knew just how to set the tone). These are songs that dig their way into your heart and make a home in the hollows of your chest.
Thanks again for the recommendation. I hope you enjoyed my ramblings about the album. I urge everyone to take a listen if they have the time.
This is a playlist for when you're feeling angry with the world. When the world is trying to tell you you're something you're not. You know yourself best and sometimes you just need to scream about it. It's cathartic. Link to the playlist here.
We're starting off strong tonight with some queer anarchy. Some anger at the system.
Fuck the Cistem - The Muslims
Queer as in Fuck You - Dog Park Dissidents
Bitchboy - The Oozes
Switching away from the anger at the systems set up against LGBTQ+ folk, we move on to the anger at the general systems of the world. This is a song by a wonderful band from the south of England, and whilst they have many songs about queer anarchy, this one's about Britain.
Fake Great Britain - Pink Suits
People - The 1975
Some 1975 to get the anger going there. They truly have such a wide range of sound in their discography. We start to move into the anger section of the playlist now, leaving the anarchy behind. But before we turn away completely, here's one more.
Go Get a Tattoo (feat. Lynks) - Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes (featuring Lynks)
The anger is really starting to build now, turn the music up loud and let yourself feel it. It's time to scream about it.
I Threw Glass at My Friend's Eyes and Now I'm on Probation - Destroy Boys
I'm Not Okay (I Promise) - My Chemical Romance
MCR really bringing in the nostalgic anger there, everyone might be telling you what they think you are, but sometimes you need to yell louder to be heard. Sometimes you need to get out there and feel the wind on your face, and run from your problems, so here's Hayloft for you.
Hayloft - Mother Mother
My Mother Wants Me Dead - carolesdaughter
A slightly calmer note from carolesdaughter there. My Mother Wants Me Dead is about all the pressure put on you by your parents. It's about the world around you trying to mould you into shape. And now, to really scream about it, we have Sum 41.
Screaming Bloody Murder - Sum 41
strawberry lipstick - YUNGBLUD
I hope the catharsis is building. I hope you're really feeling yourself now. We are still in the anger section, but this next one is a little more upbeat. It's just here to let you know we are in this together.
Fucked Up Just Like Me - Television Skies
Fences - Destroy Boys
Moving back into some final anger. We get gritty and distorted with the sounds.
Nightmares - Palaye Royale
Would You Push Me in the Nettles? - Bandit
Hayloft II - Mother Mother
And of course we have to have Hayloft II. A great story telling spread between the songs there, this is about taking it back for yourself.
abcdefu (angrier) - GAYLE
Fuck You - Lily Allen
the freak show - YUNGBLUD
With the freak show rounding up at the end of the anger segment, we want you to feel understood, we want you to know we stand with you, and we are all a bit of a wreck.
Tell Me I'm A Wreck - Every Avenue
Tonight In The Night I Die - Palaye Royale
With those final screams, we move fully into absolution. We are done with the anger, and we forgive you for its path. Sometimes we just need to let it out to move on. So we come with a switch in sound here. A total change in language even.
Судно (Борис Рыжий) - Molchat Doma
And finally, I will leave you with one more. I think we'll be alright, you know!
This came out yesterday and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. I heard a short snippet of it at a show a few weeks ago and knew I was going to love it. This is one of those songs that sticks around in your head and doesn’t leave. I particularly like “life’s not fair, it’s a carnival”, there is some very clever lyricism of fairs and carnivals and it works its way through the song. Go take a listen and get ready for the album.
I was recently recommended this album through tumblr. Whilst I hadn't heard of this band before, they are definitely going to be added to my listening rotation after listening to this. This is a well put together album with a variety of sounds, but it also has a very succinct sound. There are some great bass lines in there that I appreciate. Everyone should go check it out.
For fans of 5 Seconds of Summer, Djo, and The 1975, to name a few.
What a great Friday morning last week. A surprise album drop from Enter Shikari. I'm a big fan of surprise album releases, with no single drops, and no advertising. This was great to listen to all at once. To really experience an album as a whole is rare to see now, and I appreciated the opportunity. I really enjoyed this album and I've had it on repeat over this weekend. I think my favourite has to be 'it's OK'. Go check out the album!
Brand new Muse, out today! I am loving the sound of this track and I can't wait to hear the whole album. After their latest album 'Will Of The People' fell short in the review scene and unexplained cancellations of shows in February, I am excited to see where this newest sound will fall in the music world. Be With You seems to contain many of Muse's greatest song components - fantastic guitar riffs and distortion, dramatic lyricism, a new and unusual use of an instrument (an organ this time around), punchy electronic drums, and of course the classic vocals of Matt Bellamy. A band like Muse deserves the recognition for the explorative creating of music, and I hope that this album brings then back into the wider mainstream. Could this be another concept album made for a mainstream audience?
Had this one on repeat this week. This song came out nearly two years ago and it is a delight to listen to. I originally found it through their Instagram and it hooked me immediately. The lyrical composition is something that caught my attention, the way the rhymes are constructed is very clever and satisfying.
