Andy Warhol with twin brothers Jed Johnson and Jay Johnson during a photoshoot with British photographer Cecil Beaton at the Factory in New York City, 1969.
19-year-old Jed Johnson began working at Andy Warhol's Factory in 1968. After Warhol was shot later that year, Johnson moved in with him and was his partner for twelve years. He edited several of Warhol's films and directed his last film, Bad (1977). Johnson became a prominent interior designer; his clients included Yves Saint Laurent, Mick Jagger, and Barbra Streisand. In 1995, he became a founding member of the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board, a year before he was killed in the TWA Flight 800 explosion on July 17, 1996. His twin brother, Warhol superstar Jay Johnson, was a model and muse to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. After his brother's death, he took over his interior design business.
