I love that Grace says he and Rocky "haven't run into anything where our cultures clash" while they're actively navigating two pretty major points of difference. From Grace's perspective, being watched in your sleep is sort of unnerving; for Rocky it's imperative. From Rocky's perspective, eating is taboo and private; for Grace it's a casual, social activity. When Grace says they haven't run into any culture clashes, he's just woken up to Rocky watching him and now he's eating breakfast. It's obviously not true that they have no conflicts in their social norms! It's just that they instinctively accommodate each other with curiosity and empathy, finding ways to bend on the things that matter to each other and explain when something is really important to themselves. Grace has spent his life holding other people at arm's length, and then in Rocky he meets someone who makes him want to do the work, and that work becomes so natural he doesn't even realise he's doing it.
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.
Apple IOS update 26.4 adds age verification for the UK
Apple users can verify their age by providing credit cards or scanning their ID.

“Apple now requires users in the UK to verify their age with the launch of iOS 26.4.”
In a support page on Apple’s website, the company says users must confirm that they’re over 18 to “use certain services or features, or take certain actions on their account.”
In order to verify your account, you have to scan your face or use your ID, though “If a user already has an Apple account, the company may use a linked payment method to verify that they’re over 18.”
If verification is not done, child safety protections will be put in
“including features that block adult content on the web and blur messages containing nudity.”
“Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, called the move a “real win for children and families” in a statement to the Financial Times.”
“Apple is not required to implement age checks under U.K. law, as the Online Safety Act does not apply to app stores or operating systems.

(when i tried to send this^ image it gave me the same popup and then softlocked me
and even so, people know what they're doing. i get their whole "protect the kids! they don't know the risks!" thing but they're acting like common sense doesn't exist
also, an ai detecting nudity? does that mean they're scanning your photos library? what do they do when they find an actual nude image? where does that data go?
this is a bad update and i worry for the future of the internet
