beidou
beidou rarely lets you get cold, she's one of those people who just hold and massage their s/o's hands all the time – she could be preoccupied with something important but the second you're anywhere close she's gently grabbing your hand and starting to rub circles into it
when your hands do get cold and she notices you trying to warm them up by rubbing them together she will just grab them and put them in her pockets
she will send a charming smile your way and say something disgustingly romantic and sweet like "you won't ever get cold around me again"
and she probably won't let you, she'll keep an eye on you and your hands, always keep you safe and warm
childe
annoying each other is normal for you and childe so when you feel how cold your hands are you immediately know how to use this to your advantage
childe always likes to remind you that he's always prepared and you make sure to point out how easily you sneaked up on him
you lift up his shirt and put your palms on his waist
and when he yelps you can't help but laugh
he turns around and looks at you with a murderous gleam in his eye but you know… jokingly murderous?
"just warming my hands up," you say
he just raises an eyebrow and proceeds to threaten to do the same thing to you when he's the one with freezing cold hands
diluc
when you're cold in general he'd be the type to lend you clothing so when you're trying to warm your hands up he'll give you his gloves to put on
and i just know he has really large hands so yours are drowning in them
diluc also obviously runs hot so expect the gloves to feel really warm inside
to be honest he'd just buy you a pair or two later so you can just make sure your hands don't get cold completely on your own
but! if either of you don't have any gloves on you he will hold them really close to his chest and when i say his chest also radiates such warmth i mean it
he might hide your palms in his shirt or coat too!
kazuha
when kazuha grabs your hand and feels how cold it is he immediately gets concerned
after you explain that there's nothing to worry about and you're not sick, simply cold, he relaxes
he then takes both your hands up to his face and starts blowing on them
if he notices your slightly questioning look, he doesn't comment on it
your palms to feel better after a moment though and you're not surprised he knew how exactly to warm them up
he doesn't immediately let go, he just starts pressing light but also warm kisses to your palms and knuckles
yoimiya
"hm? your hands are cold? oh, you can sit on them like that, look!"
with both of you with your hands under your thighs you look at each other a bit awkwardly which yoimiya seems to notice
she takes her hands out from underneath her legs and rests them in her lap," or do you maybe just want to hold hands?"
the moment you nod and stretch out your arms in front of you she smiles brightly
she takes your hands in hers somewhat abruptly and squeezes them. when she stops doing that she resorts to moving your hands around, swinging or bringing them to and away from her chest
she explains that to warm up you gotta move and well, she isn't wrong!
baal x gn!reader, minor platonic kazuha x gn!reader
word count: 1.2k
genre: angst, except i’m a bad writer so it’s not that sad
warnings: side-character death
summary: "what is wrong with you? i gave you everything. everything! i gave you everything and this is how you treat me?"
notes: my first work ehe, chances are it's also gonna be the last. tell me what you think bc my writing has always been just for me to read. oh and also i kept spelling baal as ball and i think that’s funny
the time is now, you thought. the resistance was stronger, more determined than ever and you knew you wouldn't able to wait any longer. it has already been decades. centuries? maybe, definitely not millenia though – you're pretty sure that would be enough to forget, to rid yourself of the rage and the disappointment. probably. another thing was you weren't even sure you or baal had lived for as long as millenia, you would've been less naive, she'd probably be different as well.
a gust of cool air hit your left cheek and then it was raining like there's no tomorrow again. the weather was never pleasant but you felt like it has gotten worse every day since then. since you and raiden shogun.
baal wasn't born majestic and stoic. you might've thought she had certain grace to everything she did, always, which of course didn't erase her youth. everyone is young at some point, not necessarily at the beginning of their being but that was the case for baal. when you two met, she smiled a whole lot more, she laughed a laugh you could barely recall now. she was just as beautiful, just as determined and confident but she had that compassion, that adventurer's curiosity and spontaneousness, you think she glowed. it wasn't very hard to fall for her. you're sure it was way harder for her to fall for you! if that even happened.
it wasn't power that changed everything (you don't want to say anything changed her precisely because you're not sure she's that much different than she was then) – you took pride in your lover being powerful, later on powerful and respected, who wouldn't?
you theorise it was fear. baal started to fear something, she never said what it was.
fearful baal has done some questionable things "to protect" that made people fear her in turn. she's known for those questionable things – everyone's heard of the raiden shogun who takes away her people's visions, that was why the outlander came here after all. "to protect" and "celestia just isn't…" didn't give you much to work with all those years ago and you're not surprised to see that she hasn't explained anything at all to her people.
except baal feared long before the vision hunt decree. she's always feared for you. that's why she took your ambitions from you, locked them away and kept them safe. thinking about it like that makes you want to laugh. it's ridiculous to think that she didn't understand how much she was hurting you so you don't believe that's what's happened. she had to know. it felt like she did.
"my love," you looked up at baal with a slight smile urging her to continue, "celestia…" her breath hitched. "you have to know that everything i do is to protect you. that is why…" her fingers trailed the pattern carved on the frame of your vision. you wore it on your wrist, baal always tried to convince you it would be a gorgeous accessory. she wasn't wrong. "i have to take this." when she said those words she sounded resigned but only slightly.
it took you a moment too long to understand and when you did you were already visionless. you still recall the way in which she snatched your vision and more so, the way in which she held it close to her heart when she was leaving. that's right, she just left. at first it wasn't anything extraordinary, you in no way felt like something was missing but at some point you began to feel it getting further and further away, it meaning your ambitions, your power, your will. then you just felt empty without your lover as much as without your vision.
you looked to your side and saw kaedehara kazuha, a close friend of yours and a partner in crime. hah, that's what you were, right? electro archon's ex is just a criminal now. kazuha has had things taken away from him by the raiden shogun, just like you. you could understand him and he could understand you. partly. you two were going to fight alongside each other for the hundredth time and yet you feel like it's the first, not entirely because you worry your skills of a visionless person won't be enough against the raiden shogun, though that was exactly how you felt when kazuha and you were about to go into your first battle together. you feel like it's a first because you're scared it's the last. and those are just as special though in slightly different ways.
"kazuha, no!" you scrambled to his side. you simply saw him fall and seeing his vision turn grey… you knew exactly how it'd make you feel. the whole time when you were preparing for this you felt bad, who in their right mind expected their friend to die and prepared for it? now you only feel bad because apparently you didn't do a good job, you didn't try hard enough. that's the conclusion you came up with when the pain turned out to be so much worse. you were feeling dizzy, you wanted to throw up, you wanted to shout and kick and grab baal by her silky hair and then, then what? in the blink of an eye the rage was gone and you were just heartbroken.
she might've taken your vision to protect you but how is killing your only friend doing you any good? in the end, she was right. you were too good and you believed everyone else was too, you were too naive and too trusting. you should've listened to her when she said you shouldn't always believe in people and in gods. you shouldn't have listened when she said everything she ever did was to protect you.
you recognized her steps and the feeling of her stare burning into your skull. you looked up to see that she was as calm and collected as always, if not more. if you weren't so preoccupied you might've even noticed that she's trying to hide her honest sorrow. not that her being sorrowful would've changed anything anyway.
"what is wrong with you? i gave you everything. everything!" you were aware you were shouting unnecessarily loud, she was standing very close and there was no noise around – there never was noise in loss. you lowered your voice enough for it to be barely louder than a whisper, "i gave you everything and this is how you treat me?" you were asking about everything that ever happened between you two and she knew it. she never gave you any explanation, "i thought…"
your frustration caused by not being able to say what you would like to say and her still looking down on you caused you to clench your fist and angrily, chaotically start banging it against baal's thigh. she grabbed your wrist mid-air, gently repositioned her grasp and pulled you upwards, away from kazuha's body. you really, really didn't feel like protesting. you couldn't help but feel somewhat safe around her, she took good care of you when you were together. she pressed your head into her chest and even with everything that happened, you were half glad.
