Just finished reading heartstopper volume 4 and I have nowhere else to rant about how much I disliked it 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼. I know I’m not the target audience (ei being old af), but also teen me definitely would’ve been the target audience and I’m so glad I didn’t read it back then in the thick of my ed.

I probably shouldn’t be so affected by a fictional skinny 16 y/o comic book character, but damn does Charlie want to make me relapse lmao. That probably means I still have work to do, but I don’t care. Let me be angry at this.

The portrayal of anorex//ia makes me so irrationally angry. The way Charlie is the “perfect” anorex//ic just furthers the stigma that you have to be “sick enough” to get help. The fainting scene almost made me stop reading the book. It was so over dramatic and unnecessary. I wish this had a more realistic portrayal of all the awful things someone with an ED has to go through. From my perspective, this was a very glamorized view of anorex//ia (the fainting, being scared of food/hating food, inpatient being totally chill for some reason (?), barely eating with no repercussions or compensatory behaviors, etc.). It honestly made me feel like Charlie was “better” at his disorder than I could ever be lol, even though that’s fucked up on my end. I’m lowkey mad i get to didn’t have the experience Charlie did (including how supportive and loving almost everyone around him was—even his mom came around and cooked with him).

I am not upset that mental health was a focal point of this story, in fact, i think we need more awareness around mental health issues. I just think there was a better way to portray his struggles without glamorizing EDs, especially one already so glamorized.

i just saw a tiktok video captioned "how it went when my autistic brother watched my 11 moth old" and it was like. a regular adult dude playing with a baby of crawling age. it was cute. had the caption been anything else you'd have NOT know the guy was autistic. yet everyone in the comments was being so fucking odd "oh i love how he referred to babies as people" "this makes me want to cry <3" "two pure souls in a video" ect. like you people would rather die than be normal about autistic people huh

I have beef with el Massey books. I just finished “all hail the underdogs” and I’m so frustrated. I gave it a chance bc even though I didn’t like the first two in the series, I thought with different characters and a different story line it might be better. NO.

First of all, it’s a hockey book WITH NO HOCKEY. At that point, just don’t even include sports. The whole point of a hockey romance is to talk about hockey at least half the time and include game play and team dynamics duh!!

Both the main characters are insufferable. But Damien “notes app poetry” Bordeaux is even worse than Rome. It’s constant info dumping and telling rather than showing. Also I didn’t appreciate the way the trans girl was just randomly on the boys hockey team and was never treated differently and everything was perfect. Excuse me??? If you have a transphobic character (Rome), or a character that grew up in a transphobic environment, that is NOT how they are going to react. The whole situation was unbelievable. Do not even get me started on the baby plot line. Oh my godddd. Make them AT LEAST 25 and not 17 if you are even going to entertain the idea. Be serious. This whole book would’ve been slightly better if it took place in the AHL or a different minor league.

Idk how I feel about the internet references either. They end up dating the book even though the book just came out. Better not to include, or create a parallel social media with its own references and in jokes understood throughout the book. Most of the time social media references really fall flat. Oooh or set it in like 2007 or something and build it around a specific time period that’s not immediate, so it’s supposed to feel dated.

Anyways. I rate 2 stars because I did finish the book and the cover was cool. Honestly the cover was the best part of the book. I would not recommend reading the series if you are a hockey fan.

Murder Grad School. you’re a genius, Will.” and then Will goes to therapy and Hannibal is like “would you go to art school if you could, Will?” and Will looks up at him through his coquettish whore eyelashes and he goes “I’m more of a painter than a sculptor.” and Hannibal nods and takes notes but all his notes just say “Mrs. William Graham” in different cursive styles with hearts over all the i’s. and then Will drives home to Virginia and has a dream where he’s like sculpting a stag out of marble or something while he’s sweating through his only set of bedsheets. great show no notes love u Bryan Fuller <3

My biggest pet peeve as a reader is characters moaning while they eat. This is not a real thing. Please stop having characters do this. It takes me out of the story every single time. Maybe it’s just an asexual thing, but I fucking HATE it (but I do enjoy reading sex scenes so idk). This is the SECOND time in as many days I’ve read something similar to this

I’ve been rereading Check, Please and all the extras and tweets and just remembering how fucking FUN it all was when it was happening in real time!!! Ngozi seriously created a full-on EXPERIENCE for us and it was just an absolute blast. Like there was the normal screeching and wailing when we got comic updates, like you’d get when you’re watching an ongoing show and getting weekly episodes. But then we also got extras and ask-a-Wellie and the TWEETS!!! We all had alerts set for Bitty’s twitter and we’d just get no warning before getting tidbits about the team or about his state of mind or vague-tweets about his crush and we would all FLOCK to tumblr to analyze and speculate and squee. It was a fandom experience I really haven’t had before or since and I just!!! It was so fun!!!! And she gave it to us for free!!!!
