elaborating on this. theres a lot of anti fandom sentiment going around right now, in the main tags, so i want to say for those who need to hear it: you are a huge nerd. you are a giant loser. we are all giant losers watching a youtube gmod roleplay series and giggling and kicking our feet. you are exactly as cringe as the kid drawing blue skinned benreys in hot topic clothes. you are exactly as cringe as the fanfic author writing frenrey omegaverse porn. you are exactly as cringe as the largest fandom creator, to the smallest fandom lurker. acting like youre the only enlightened hlvrai fan because you dont like the popular ship, or like youre above tropes, or like youre the teams knights in shining armor protecting the sanctity of their series, makes you sound fucking stupid. and you will be a lot happier, i think, if you let go of that arrogance that alienates you from a majority of the fandom.

i think the idea that people can only engage in media nowadays if they can ship the characters, ship themselves with the characters, or fit them into tropes is complete nonsense. i think you are making up guys in your head to get mad at. and i think it is bad for you.

im not saying you cant be a hater. in fact i think a hater is one of the most beautiful things you can be. but you dont need to grasp at straws to justify everything you hate. if you hate blue-skinned benreys, thats fine! you can hate them! but using antisemitism as a rhetorical weapon to back up your hate is weird at best and dangerous at worst. if you hate a certain fandom creator, thats fine! you can hate them! you dont need to go desperately searching for a reason theyre actually problematic to make your hate seem logical and noble. you can just hate a thing. thats fine. its okay. you dont need to justify every inkling you have. its fine. its okay. its fine.

uh, in summary: youre not better than anyone for rejecting fandom. that just makes you a lonely fan of something. youre still a nerd, but now youre a nerd who cant talk to any of the other nerds because youre convinced your style of nerddom is the less nerdy of the two. and i think thats a lonely and sad way to be a nerd. thats all
