Modern! Maekar
!modern Maekar who likes to finger you into overstimulation.
Lay you out on his bed entirely bare for him. ensures you won’t be able to close your legs on him because he wants to watch you shudder, shake and twitch just from his fingers alone.
He knows you have a thing for his hands so he’s definitely using that to his advantage. He wants to work you so high into overstimulating that the tiniest touch leaves you quivering before him.

February, 196
It was a peaceful day at Crownlands University—students who were doing yoga lessons were outside and on the grass, soaking up the sun, and feeling the cool breeze of the morning. But that was disrupted by a loud garble of a big motorcycle passing by. The yoga club president closed her eyes shut and muttered to herself,
“Fucking blackguard.”
That motorcycle was driven by none other than, presidential son, Maekar Targaryen–Crownlands Uni’s resident bad boy and a top member of the photography club. He parked his motorcycle and removed his helmet revealing his silver-blond hair; Maekar had a mullet and short fringed bangs that covered the upper half of forehead. He had a nose ring and a few piercings, and he wore a tight black shirt and leather pants. He was the antithesis of his suit-wearing, combed-over-hair, and polite smiles elder brothers. He was not doing it for attention, though; he just doesn’t like rules when it comes to his fashion sense and self-expression. That also came to making friends; he was not the social butterfly that his big brother is. He hated talking to people, that in turn, people hated talking to him too.
He took his black pack on his shoulder, his helmet on the other hand, and entered the ancient campus building. Maekar had a 9 o’clock class in aeronautics and he makes it a habit to arrive an hour earlier. There was one reason why Maekar comes earlier to campus every day–because at exactly 8 o’clock, someone passes by Maekar’s classroom, who’s also on her way to her own class.
This time, Maekar decided not to enter the classroom yet, and he hung out in the hallway. He already saw her coming, but Maekar pretended not to notice her and hid his face over his textbook.
Since the school year started, Maekar has already seen her. The transfer student from Starfall… long black hair, heart-shaped face, beautiful lips, and tanned skin. He has been wanting to ask her out, but he’s afraid that she will be frightened of his prickly reputation and his piercings. If he told her that he is the President’s youngest son; there’s a chance that it might turn her off or a chance that she might notice him, at least.
But that was all Maekar could do for now–to wait for her to pass by and look at her whenever she’s not looking. Maekar saw that she wore a lilac jumper with small white star patterns, and a white collared shirt underneath, which she paired with a short white pleated skirt. She was everything that was opposite him; prim and proper, and hauntingly beautiful. Maekar could only hope that she’ll look his way and ignore his piercings and his all-black clothes. The funny thing was that he doesn’t even know her name.
Finally, she passed by him, and he followed her with his eyes while his head was turned towards his book. A friend greeted her and he heard what she called her.
“Yanna! I brought the book you asked for!”
Maekar left the spot where he stood once he heard her name and entered the classroom. What he didn’t know, Yanna knew. She knew well that he waits for her in that hallway; acting nonchalant and tough, but really, Yanna finds him adorable, with the way he blushes whenever she walks by in front of him.
When Maekar entered the classroom, he couldn’t help but smile. He has a crush, but how can he ever make it happen or even make a move on Yanna? When one smile from her, leaves him like a deer in the headlights?
Maekar’s class started, but after that he had a schedule in the Photography Club; there would be a free session for new club members, and he is one of the students that will assist their professor, who stands as club consultant.
Since he was a boy, he had been fascinated with capturing moments. He loved looking at the stillness of things, the way a chaotic moment is captured in a flash of light and processed on a piece of paper. His first subjects were his brothers, and Baelor was the most photogenic of them, because he was also the most attractive. But if Baelor heard him, he would point out Rhaegel as the most attractive of them all. Both are very attractive, even Aerys. Maybe one of the reasons why Maekar loved being behind the lens is that he doesn’t see himself on a par with his brothers’ handsomeness. He inherited the classical Valyrian features of their Dad, but his face was borrowed from their Mum. He had concluded; his features clashed, and it wasn’t as aesthetically pleasing. What made it worse for him was the pock marks and acne scars he had on his face.
Don’t do that to yourself.
In the middle of Maekar’s class, he could hear Baelor’s words in his mind. Every time he would put himself down for not being as good looking as Baelor, his big brother always lifts him up.
We are Targaryens, we are a proud house. Your face is the face of our ancestors, and their faces charmed Kings and Queens.
Some men would be more than willing to put their brothers down, but not Baelor. It amazes him how Baelor sees good in a person or sees their potential, even if it’s non-existent. It’s sometimes misinterpreted as patronization; but those who fully know Baelor well that he always means well.
“How about Maekar? Can you write on the board the formula we need?” said the professor.
Maekar stood without a word and was handed the chalk to write on the board. He wrote the correct formula, effortlessly. Some students may think he rides on being a son of the Head of State, but he has everything to prove himself, Maekar just won’t use it against anyone.
After that class, Maekar headed to the building at the end of the campus, where all the undergrad clubs are located. The Photography Club headquarters was located on the third floor, at the end of the hallway; Maekar already saw other students entering the room, but he also saw Yanna, together with her friend. They met glances when they both entered the doorway, at the same time. She smiled at him, but Maekar probably scowled because he didn’t know what else to do. His crush had just smiled at him, and he does not know how to function. What he couldn’t process at that moment was what made her want to join the Photography club.
The room had long tables and tall stools where the cameras were laid out; to welcome the new members, they were given basic lessons on the first day. Maekar was not a good teacher, he made everyone cry if they didn’t catch up with what he was saying, but he knew how to explain the technical aspects of photography and the equipment.
Mr. Zharaq, their Essosi professor welcomed them all, but Maekar couldn’t care less as he stood behind their professor because his eyes were on Yanna. She was listening intently and would say something to her bespectacled friend from time to time–but Maekar would find her looking back at him, only for him to pretend that he was looking at something else.
“So, we have Maekar here–” chimed Mr. Zharaq, as he mispronounced Maekar’s name and then he stepped aside. “To explain the equipment.”
Maekar was used to this brief orientation, but he felt a little nervous because of the way Yanna looked at him as she listened.
“I have here a Nikon 35mm SLR Camera and it’s the latest model released by Nikon.”
He was momentarily distracted when Yanna leaned on the table, and she looked dreamy as she did. But before he could lose his train of thought, he gave out the specs of the camera; he explained it well because it was his own camera. After Maekar has given that short orientation, Mr. Zharaq called a volunteer to test it.
“You, young lady.”
Maekar almost lost it when he thought Mr. Zharaq had pointed at Yanna, but actually, he called Yanna’s friend.
“Come on up here!” invited Mr. Zharaq.
Yanna pushed her friend to stand up, “Go ahead, Ellyn!”
Ellyn smiled brightly at Yanna then she came up next to Maekar. He guided Ellyn to hold the camera properly,
“Hold it with both of your hands, then put the lace over your neck.”
But Ellyn wasn’t careful, she missed the part where she needed to hold the underside of the camera and in one instance... Maekar’s camera fell onto the wooden floor.
Ellyn tried to save the camera from falling, but it was all too late; it came tumbling down, and everyone heard something shatter inside. All the students and club members winced in pain because they knew how expensive that is.
Ellyn faced Maekar as she tried to pick it up. “I’m so sorry!”
Maekar yelled, “You dumb bitch! You broke it!”
Ellyn was red and she was about to cry. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to break it!”
Maekar was livid; he was turning red up his chest and neck. He grabbed Ellyn’s arm out of rage and shouted at her.
“That is worth more than your fucking tuition for a year!”
This time, Yanna stood from her seat, and she wedged herself between Ellyn and Maekar.
“She said she was sorry, are you fucking deaf?!”
Maekar was fully enraged, even Yanna’s intervention won’t help Ellyn. Yanna knew Maekar wouldn’t let Ellyn go, so she took the camera and held it up.
“Let her go! Or I’ll destroy this piece of shit camera!”
Maekar did as Yanna ordered. He took his hands off of Ellyn then Yanna demanded again,
“Apologize to Ellyn!”
Maekar exhaled loudly like a beast; he was a Targaryen and he used to be a Dragon Prince; however, as much as he liked Yanna, she was skating on thin ice as of that moment.
“I’m sorry...” muttered Maekar.
Yanna was about to hand the camera back to Maekar, but Maekar added,
“I’m sorry that you’re stuck with a loser friend with butterfingers.”
Yanna’s head tilted up and her beautiful purple eyes glared at Maekar. Yanna forcefully threw the camera on the floor and stomped it with her mary janes. Maekar threw deathly glares at Yanna as he picked up the pieces of his camera on the floor.
“Find me when you need a new one, asshole!”
Yanna took Ellyn by her shoulders and comforted her.
“Come on, we’re leaving,” cooed Yanna at Ellyn; then she turned to Mr. Zharaq and yelled, “he deserved it!”
Yanna and Ellyn stormed out of the room, while Mr. Zharaq dismissed everyone. Maekar was left behind as he tried to salvage the film and other parts of his camera. He should be mad as hell, however as he unscrewed the main parts of his camera, and yet he was smiling like a loon.
“She’s just as crazy as me.”
Days passed and Yanna waited for Maekar to come to her. She was not afraid of some tall, lanky, artsy brat from the Photography club. What he did to Ellyn was unforgiveable, but… she loved it when she saw how mad Maekar was. He looked handsome when he was red all over and his brows were knit together. She might make him angry again the next time they see each other.
One day, after her humanities class, she, Ellyn, and the rest of their friends were on their way to the cafeteria when a big bike cut them off on the sidewalk. Yanna saw the rider that wore a helmet over his head–black slim-fit shirt, black leather pants, and she saw his eyes that were just a shade darker than hers.
“Hop on!” Maekar’s voice boomed through his helmet.
Yanna crossed her arms on her chest. “Why?”
Maekar hissed, “You know why! You need to buy me a new camera!”
Yanna refused and she stood her ground, and she boldly declared, “Truly apologize to Ellyn first, then I’ll go with you.”
No one had dared challenge Maekar Targaryen since he had set foot on Crownlands Uni, but Yanna dared and she showed no sign of remorse or fear.
One of Yanna’s friends wanted to take Yanna aside, but Yanna was immovable, so she told Yanna out loud, “Yanna, no! You don’t know him!”
Yanna scoffed, “And he doesn’t know me or whose ass I’ve handed to people back in Starfall!”
Maekar got down from his big bike, removed his helmet, and approached the four girls, but he faced Ellyn.
“Ellyn… I’m sorry.”
Yanna poked Maekar on the shoulder and demanded, “Sorry for what, exactly?”
Maekar threw stabbing looks at Yanna; yet he inhaled slowly and continued,
“Sorry for saying those nasty things to you.”
“Much better!” exclaimed Yanna.
Ellyn smiled weakly. “Thanks.”
Maekar faced away from Ellyn, but he sneered at Yanna who playfully laughed at him and was all smiles. Yanna made Maekar angry again and she chuckled delightfully at him as her day was complete. Her friends gave each other looks, but Yanna willingly rode on the back of Maekar's big bike and wore the helmet he offered her.
“Hold on to something.”
Yanna didn’t do as she was told and she questioned him, “Hold on to what? On you?”
Maekar looked back. “On to something hard.”
Yanna clapped her hands on Maekar’s helmet.
Maekar grumbled, “No…! Lower.”
Yanna placed her hands on his shoulders; but Maekar urged, “Go lower, genius.”
Yanna’s eyes widened and she yelled at Maekar. “Are there other hard parts of you that I could hold on to?!”
Maekar guided her hands and placed it on his waist. “Here.”
If she would chase his anger, then he would tease her every time they are together. Maekar squeezed the throttle that made the big bike roar then purr.
“Take care, Yanna!” called out Ellyn.
Maekar drove off with Yanna, holding on to him for dear life, while she rode at the back of his big bike.
A friend of Yanna’s turned to Ellyn. “Let’s take a bet–when do you think he’ll knock her up?”
“Hmm, I’m betting on next month–March.”
Another friend answered, “Maybe April?”
Then Ellyn was asked, and she answered,
“This month. Two weeks, tops.”
They all laughed and placed a golden dragon each as lots.
Meanwhile, Maekar brought Yanna over to the mall where he bought his last camera. They parked on the front and entered the mall when Yanna noticed that there were two men in suit jackets and jeans following them. Yanna held Maekar’s hand and pressed herself on his side.
“We’re being followed,” whispered Yanna.
Maekar looked back and he took that opportunity to put his arm over Yanna’s shoulder.
He leaned in and whispered in Yanna's ear, “They’re the security detail assigned to me.”
Yanna’s brows were furrowed in confusion. “You’re that important?”
Maekar chuckled and found himself walking so close against Yanna, they could be mistaken as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Maekar winked at her. “You can say that.”
Yanna’s eyes stared at each of Maekar’s eyes then at his lips. She was standing too close to him, and she was looking up at his face. There was something about Maekar that was pulling her in, and she didn’t have to guess what it was–she was attracted to Maekar, but for now she cannot gauge if Maekar is attracted to her too. So, Yanna backed away from Maekar and she walked on.
Maekar was left standing at the spot Yanna left him; she looked back at him and beamed at him.
“Do you want your camera replaced or not?”
Maekar smiled and caught up with Yanna as they went to the store where Maekar bought his camera. It was located at the upper levels, and it was just a small store at the end of the floor. Maekar and Yanna entered the store and the wind chimes attached to the door rang softly and it was followed by a voice of an old man.
“Oh, Maek! You’re back! And so soon?”
“It’s because of this, Mr. Pyke.”
Maekar placed the bag containing the remains of his camera and showed Mr. Pyke the damage his camera took from Yanna’s mary janes.
“Did someone stomp on these?”
Maekar pointed at Yanna. “She did.”
“Lovers’ quarrel, eh?”
Yanna stammered, though she was blushing by that time. “M-Mr. Pyke, he was being a dick to my friend! And he deserved it!”
Mr. Pyke took out the lens and the pieces of the camera and examined it.
Maekar countered, “With stompers like that, you ought to try the soccer team as varsity.”
Yanna, annoyed, pinched Maekar’s nipple through his shirt which surprised him and made him chortle. He gently swatted Yanna’s hand away and continued talking to Mr. Pyke.
“Do I have to buy a new one? You don’t have to worry about the payment, she’ll pay—she promised that when she broke my camera.”
Yanna glared at Maekar, but Mr. Pyke finished assessing the pieces.
“It’s still repairable. I can do it, but it would take months.”
Maekar sighed, but he nodded at Mr. Pyke. “Please. Mum bought me that camera. I don’t want it to go to waste.”
He smiled at Maekar, his crow’s feet creasing. “Very well then. In the meantime, just so you won’t be idle with your hobby...”
He then took two boxes out of the shelves behind him and presented two polaroid cameras to Maekar.
“You can use this for now–try it, and if you like it, you can keep it. Film packs are included and look, you both get each!”
Maekar gently pushed the boxes on the counter, back to the old man. “Mr. Pyke, that’s too much. How about your sales?”
Mr. Pyke waved Maekar’s concern off. “Ah! I’ll manage! And I can’t let a future professional photographer such as you, have no camera to use.”
Yanna felt a little embarrassed that Mr. Pyke had given them a generous offer, so she spoke up, “Don’t worry, Mr. Pyke. I’ll pay you.”
Mr. Pyke nodded appreciatively and gave them the two polaroid cameras. Yanna took out some cash from her wallet to pay for the repair, but Maekar stopped her before she handed Mr. Pyke the payment.
“No need to.”
She huffed, “What do you mean? I need to pay Mr. Pyke.”
“I got it, ” insisted Maekar. He took out his own wallet and declared, “I’m paying for it.”
Yanna shook her head, befuddled. “Then why did you have to bring me here?”
Mr. Pyke answered for Maekar, “Because he wanted to take you on a date, isn’t it obvious?”
Maekar had a tight-lipped smile on his face because Mr. Pyke had just ratted him out and right in front of Yanna. He thought that Yanna would be angry with that, but when he looked at her—she was blushing and she looked perplexed.
“Uhm, go on, pay Mr. Pyke. I’ll wait for you outside,” muttered Yanna.
When Yanna came out of the store, Mr. Pyke nudged Maekar at his side.
“Oh young love! Go for it, Master Maekar! You can see that she likes you back, you got this!”
Maekar scratched the back of his head as he sighed; he could see Yanna fidgeting through the glass doors, but she was smiling. He had never met a girl like her before, and he knew he would do anything for her, and seven hells; he might even die for her. So, Maekar paid Mr. Pyke and he got out of the store, with a large plastic bag that contained the cameras.
Yanna smiled at him when they met glances as he got out of the store; Maekar asked,
“Are you hungry? What do you like? Mereenese? Yi Tianese? We can order take out.”
Yanna chuckled, “Take out? Why? Where are we going?”
Maekar shrugged. “Back at my place–to test these out.”
Yanna pouted but she secretly smiled when she faced away from Maekar.
“Yi Tianese sounds good. Let’s go?”
Maekar nodded. “Yeah. Let’s go.”
He offered his arm to her, and Yanna hesitated at first, but after a few moments, she gently grabbed his arm; her fingers touching his bare forearms and felt his warm skin underneath her palm. Yanna couldn’t explain it, but she knew that she was falling for Maekar.
They bought take out and then rode Maekar’s big bike; tearing through the road as they made their way across Rhaenys’ Hill. Yanna held on to Maekar, and she had both of her arms around his body now. But strangely, she wanted to hold on to him tighter; she wanted to feel his warmth against her. Her gentle-hearted mother warned her of boys like Maekar, the wild ones who break girls’ hearts; the boys who are only after one thing, but unfortunately, Yanna had met those boys her mother warned her about, yet Maekar is unlike them.
He had a quiet strength to him, though he may be crass and a potty mouth, as she had observed—Maekar hid behind his tough exterior and Yanna wanted to uncover that; peel it, layer by layer.
Maekar brought Yanna to his penthouse, a unit on top of the Lannister-owned chain of condominiums near Visenyas’s Hill. The doorman greeted him before they got into the elevator; Maekar didn’t greet back, but Yanna extended courtesy to the doorman. Once they were inside the elevator, going up to the 30th floor, Yanna spoke up.
“It doesn’t hurt to greet the doorman back.”
Maekar clicked his tongue, “He’s a doorman, I live here. I’m not obligated to greet him back.”
Yanna raised her brow at Maekar. “A little kindness from you wouldn’t hurt from time to time.”
Maekar shook his head and scoffed, “Yes, milady.”
Yanna lightly rapped Maekar by his shoulder; Maekar snickered because Yanna looked cute when she was crossed.
When they arrived on the 30th, Maekar led Yanna to a unit at the end and opened the door to his temporary home.
“Welcome, uh,” mumbled Maekar, then he pointed at the rack by the doorway, “Here are the slippers; get yourself a pair and leave your shoes at the shoe rack.”
Yanna observed Maekar’s penthouse; the walls were slate gray and the couch was black. It was contrasted by the floor-to-ceiling windows that permitted the light in the entirety of the penthouse. It was large and had another floor for the bedroom. Maekar went to the kitchen and took out the small boxes that contained the rice meals with dumplings as toppings, while Yanna opened a box that contained a polaroid camera.
Maekar observed her put on the film pack inside the camera.
“We had one of these, back home,” beamed Yanna, and then she paused.
Maekar waited for her to continue her story, but instead she quietly loaded the film pack and closed the polaroid camera.
“Oh, my little sister loves this. Like, she cried when she received one for her birthday.”
Maekar brought the food onto the couch where Yanna sat. He gave her a take-out box and then he asked,
“How old is your sister?”
Yanna smiled and Maekar could tell Yanna was imagining her little sister at that moment.
“She just turned ten.”
“What’s her name?”
Yanna breathed, “Lysi.”
Maekar encouraged her to take a bite of the rice meal, and he saw her purple eyes sparkling when she tasted the savory fried rice with the shrimp wanton.
“Tastes good, right?”
Yanna nodded happily as she feasted on the take-out box. After a few moments, she stopped altogether and she sobbed.
“I miss my family... I miss Vorian and Lysi. I miss Mum.”
Yanna put down her food and she sobbed again, but this time, Maekar pulled her in to embrace her and he rubbed her back as she started to cry.
“It’s been a year since I saw them...”
Maekar hummed, “I understand. I have three older brothers, and though I’m sick of them, I miss them too… from time to time.”
Yanna looked up and Maekar wiped her tears away with his thumb. Her lips were plump and red from crying, and her eyes were clearer than ever with tears. Maekar wanted to put his lips on hers, but he gently removed Yanna from his embrace and placed a considerate amount of space between them.
“Hey, in two months, you’ll see them again when academic break comes,” encouraged Maekar.
Yanna smiled through her tears. “I’m not allowed to come home.”
“Why not?”
Yanna diverted the conversation and took a photo of Maekar with the polaroid camera. Maekar was taken by surprise, then the film came out, bearing his impromptu portrait.
“Got you,” lilt Yanna.
Maekar scoffed and he tried to steal the photo from Yanna but she inserted it inside her shirt.
“You can’t have it now.”
Maekar leered, “And if I try to get it?”
Yanna pushed it further down, and it showed through her lilac cotton shirt. Maekar shook his head and laughed; he took the camera and took a photo of Yanna. They both laughed and Maekar took another photo of Yanna.
He looked at the photo of Yanna that he had in his hand. “You look breathtaking.”
Yanna tried to pretend that she didn’t feel giddy when Maekar said that, so she countered, “I used to model back at Starfall, then in Shadow City.”
Maekar looked at Yanna through the viewfinder and muttered, “Of course, you would, I mean... look at you.”
“What?”
Maekar placed down the camera and scooted closer towards Yanna. She quivered as Maekar sat beside her, his hand fishing out the photo inside her shirt, his fingers touching her chest.
“You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.”
They locked eyes and there was no use pretending—they want each other, and by gods, they want each other now.
Yanna kissed Maekar for the very first time, he opened his mouth for her, and she felt his hands on her body. They have been trying to catch other for a year now–of yearning stares across hallways, passing each other by the campus, stealing glances whenever they would see each other at the library, and now… they were face to face, skin to skin, and Maekar had never thought his wildest dreams would come true.
They started to take their clothes off in the living room, the light of the day streaming through the window and they could see everything. There was no use hiding; Maekar was a little shy at first; but once she saw his naked body, Yanna traced every mark, she kissed his cheek, touched every part of him–as if she had just absolved him of his shame, his insecurities; Yanna patched up his beaten up heart.
They made love by that couch; Maekaer took Yanna in those cushioned seats and they shared their passion in that very room, that room that used to be so mundane, lifeless; was splashed with color and breathed life into it. Maekar did his best to satisfy Yanna; he gave her everything because he knew she deserved nothing less. Her moans filled the room and with that, he learned to voice out his desires too. When they were done; they were both breathless, their hair messy, skin glistening with sweat; Maekar embraced Yanna and he pressed his body into hers.
“Move in with me.”
Yanna looked up at his eyes. The answer was in her eyes, but Maekar wanted to hear her say it.
“Move in with me, please?”
Yanna nodded. “Yes.
Yanna immediately moved into Maekar’s penthouse, and they lived together. For Maekar, it was a month of playing house, heaven, nude dinners, a group study for two; watching movies like Hook, E.T., Goonies, and everything else—till the VCRs reach the end of the reel. He could never ask for anything else, and Yanna showed him a life worth living. Though there were times he wanted to know more about her life back in Starfall, yet he couldn’t pry when he himself wouldn’t tell his own tale of being the Head of State’s son.
But as the days went by, it became increasingly relevant as Maekar had planned to introduce Yanna to his parents, so they could be official.
One day, Maekar came home to the Keep and sought his mother out. She was busy with organizing Daerry’s 50th Birthday, but she met with her youngest son at her designated study.
“Mum?”
“Oh, my dear son, come in.” beamed Myriah as soon as she saw Maekar standing by her doorway.
Maekar kissed her mother on the cheek, and they sat over tea that was served on the small table.
“What brought you here? How’s your studies going? I know that an aeronautical degree is not easy.”
Maekar shook his head as he smiled at Myriah. “I’m trying my best, Mum,” he cleared his throat and continued, “Mum, I came here because I wanted to ask you something.”
Myriah nodded, and Maekar proceeded. “Mum, I want to introduce you and Dad... to someone.”
“Who is it?”
Maekar sat straight and he tried not to let his voice break. “I have a girlfriend now.”
Maekar expected Myriah to be happy with the news, but she looked down on her clasped hands for a moment. Then she met her son’s gaze—she shook her head as she tried to explain it to Maekar.
“Maek... Please don’t lose heart when I tell you this—your Dad and I have decided to introduce you to someone, uhm, a fellow Dornish woman. She came from a minor house, but I heard the girl is an accomplished student, and she’s an aspiring teacher.”
Maekar scoffed; he didn’t want to believe what his mother was saying, but he wanted to confirm it.
“Did Dad approve of this?”
Myriah sighed out loud. “I did. But he agreed. Your Dad’s term is ending, and he intends to run again for office. In a way, you are helping him forge alliances with Dorne.”
Maekar’s chest heaved and he shifted on his seat. But once he settled down, he slowly spoke, “What does Dad want to happen?”
Myriah whispered, “If you strike up a relationship with this girl, it will secure the support of House Dayne.”
“But I love Yanna—Mum, you can’t let this happen!”
Myriah touched her son’s shoulder and tried to comfort him. “Maekar, I beg you... let Yanna down gently... And help us.”
Maekar had his fists balled up in his lap. He spat, “Why me? How about Baelor? Shouldn’t he get married first? Use him as your pawn, not me!”
Myriah looked down and quietly spoke, “Your brother will be set up with Jena Dondarrion. Ser Aemon had suggested it to your Dad and he agreed—we would also need the support of the Marchers.”
Maekar sobbed and covered his eyes with his hand. Myriah wanted to ease his son’s tears and to comfort him, but it was the hand he was dealt with. They may have been freed of a life in a royal court where alliances are made through connections, but even if they are living in democracy, it is still restraining as when the monarchy existed.
“Help us, Maekar. We need all the support we can get, and the election period is almost upon us. It has put a great strain on your Dad, as it is.”
Maekar wordlessly stood, but he touched his mother’s hand. It will be done–Myriah knows her son well.
Maekar had his head on the door of their unit; he couldn’t get himself to open the door, his strength was failing him, because he may have to break Yanna’s heart when he tells her. He opened the door and went to the bedroom where he found Yanna, in the middle of her nap. He slowly approached her and laid beside her; as she slept, Maekar placed his head on her chest that woke her up. Yanna immediately kissed his forehead and took Maekar into her arms.
“You’re back...”
Maekar remained quiet, but she asked, “How was your Mum?”
Maekar hugged her tighter and he buried his face on her chest. Yanna wanted to know what happened when Maekar talked to his mother, but it seems that Maekar was in no mood to spill; so, she and Maekar spent the rest of the day together. Both had no classes for that day, and they stayed watching afternoon cartoons, till it got dark. Yanna took Maekar for a walk along the riverbanks. Yanna could tell that Maekar was holding something back, but when they sat by the mouth of the river where it meets the sea—Maekar started to talk.
“You have to move out.”
Yanna chuckled, thinking that Maekar was joking, but when their gazes met; she saw how his eyes were brimmed with tears.
“W-What? I don’t understand, babe.”
Maekar looked away from Yanna. He continued, “My girlfriend is coming back. You should leave the penthouse.”
Yanna’s smile disappeared; she wanted to believe that Maekar was pranking her of some sort, but his eyes said it all.
“You have a girlfriend... You’re only telling me now?”
Maekar huffed, “I don’t want it to get complicated.”
Yanna scoffed, but tears fell from her eyes. She turned away from Maekar; he didn’t even reach for her hand. She stood and faced Maekar.
“Fine. I’m leaving tonight. Good luck with everything, I hope your girlfriend can love all of that—whatever the fuck is going on with you.”
Maekar glared at Yanna. She would make it hurt; she would let her words be the poison for him.
“You think that made you look cool? Come on, your pock marks are hard to look at, and no amount of piercing or leather can hide that. I don’t know how I managed to ignore that for so long.”
Maekar wanted to lash out on her, but he kept quiet. Yanna squatted so she could match the level of his eyes. She would make it hurt; she would tear him to pieces.
“Yeah? It fucking hurts? Truth hurts,” mocked Yanna, then she put her finger on his chest, poking him hard. “And that’s how I feel right now. Just so you know.”
Yanna stood and left Maekar on that bench; she hurried her steps and went back to the penthouse to pack her things up. But the moment she reached an empty corner; she howled and broke down in tears. She didn’t want to do that to him; she loves Maekar and everything about him. But he hurt her, and she just needed to give it back to him.
So, she left, and Maekar had never witnessed emptiness until then. When he came back to the penthouse, he couldn’t bear to stare at everything, because he would see Yanna everywhere—like a ghost lingering and haunting him. Maekar lied to drive her away, and it swiftly took effect. In a certain point of view, it’s true. He must strike up a relationship with that girl from House Dayne, and he must make his Father proud. It was the only chance he got, and it cost him the love of his life, and Maekar hoped and prayed to the Mother and to the Maiden that it was all worth it.
In the last week of March, before the academic break; Maekar approached Ellyn.
“Ellyn? Hi, remember me?”
Ellyn nodded, “I do—and I know what you’re going to ask me.”
Maekar insisted, “I’m just wondering how your friend is.”
Ellyn feigned ignorance. “Who?”
He blurted out, “Yellesanna Blackmont.”
Ellyn tried to walk away from Maekar but he caught up with her.
“I haven’t seen her for a couple of months now. Is it true? She already went home to Starfall?”
Ellyn held up her hands, “Dude, I don’t know what happened between you and Yanna, but you broke her heart. That’s all I know. She didn’t tell me where she went, I just assumed she went home.”
Ellyn left Maekar; he never found out where Yanna’s family was from, and she never left a number she could be reached out to. He may have forever lost Yanna.
But one warm April night—the night Daerry celebrated his 50th Birthday; Baelor slipped and mentioned something that caught Maekar’s attention.
“It’s time to meet your bride from Starfall.”
Maekar couldn’t believe what Baelor had just said. He was informed that the girl he was going to be introduced to was from Dorne, though he had never asked where exactly... but he had a feeling about this girl from Starfall, and he had to see her immediately. Maekar saw his Mum talking to another woman and he interrupted their conversation.
“Mum! I’m here!”
Myriah clapped her hands and laughed sweetly when she saw her youngest. “Oh, here Maekar is! Let me introduce you to the Lady of Starfall, Lady Yellesanna Dayne.”
Yellesanna kindly insisted, “Oh, please, call me Yanna.”
Maekar’s head tilted and he was starting to piece it together. Then a boy of fifteen and a young girl of ten were presented to Maekar by Yellesanna.
“These are my younger children,” she touched her son’s head, “Vorian.”
Vorian nodded and had a tight-lipped smile. Then the girl was introduced, her eyes glinting purple by the party lights. “This is my youngest, Lysanne. We call her Lysi.”
And the moment Maekar was waiting for, Yellesanna introduced her eldest—a daughter.
“This is my daughter, my eldest... Dyanna Dayne.”
Maekar used all his strength to restrain himself from kissing Dyanna, but he also saw her enforce the same restraint on herself. Instead, he slowly approached her and took her hand and laid a kiss on her knuckles.
Maekar formally introduced himself. “Maekar Nymeros-Martell Targaryen.”
“Dyanna Dayne. Nice to finally meet you.”
Yellesanna and Myriah stared at each other and at Maekar and Dyanna.
“Have the two of you met?” asked Myriah.
Maekar stared deeply into Dyanna’s eyes and he was smiling.
“No, Mum. I’ve never seen this girl before.”
Dyanna, who couldn’t get her eyes off Maekar, chuckled, “Me neither. I have no idea who he is.”
Yellessanna pulled her other children aside. “We will let you two get acquainted.”
Maekar led Dyanna to take a seat and they just couldn’t keep their eyes off of each other.
“Let me guess... Your mother is from House Blackmont?”
Dyanna nodded. “Yes. She’s a Blackmont,” then she emphasized, “So, where’s your girlfriend?”
Maekar laughed and he kissed Dyanna’s hand again. “You won’t believe this, but my girlfriend is Lord Dayne’s eldest daughter.”
Dyanna closed her eyes and remembered the hateful things she said to Maekar.
“Maek, I’m sorry–”
Maekar shook his head and he pulled Dyanna closer. “No. No, it’s alright. We didn’t know then.”
She put a hand on his jaw, and she placed her face so close to his. “We tried to run away from each other... and look what happened to us—we circled back.”
“It must be fate.”
“It must be.”
Maekar wasted no time, he pulled Dyanna into a kiss and he embraced her.
“We have a lot of things to talk about–”
Maekar spoke over Dyanna and he stroked her face. “No. We don’t need to explain anything.”
He took her hand and linked his fingers with hers. “We have our whole life ahead of us to talk.”
Dyanna smiled again and this time, she kissed Maekar. That moment was momentarily ended when Donnel, one of the security personnel, took him away and informed him that his Dad was about to make a speech.
“I’ll be back!” shouted Maekar as he walked with Donnel.
“I’ll wait here!”
There Dyanna found out who Maekar really is–he is the fourth son of the President, and was part of the most famous family in all the realm. Before the school year started, she had run away from Starfall when Lord Deziel informed her that she would be promised to the fourth son of Daeron Targaryen. She didn’t want to be in an agreement she did not approve of–like a slave being sold to a master, so Dyanna ran away from home and enrolled into a school at Kingslanding; used her mother’s maiden name, Yellesanna Blackmont, to register at Crownlands Uni.
She watched Daerry make a speech, and then she saw the rest of Maekar’s brothers. Baelor, Aerys, and Rhaegel. Dyanna was witness to Daerry’s announcement to run again for office; and as soon as Daerry’s speech ended; Maekar went back to the table where Dyanna was seated. She welcomed him by her side and Maekar stuck to her like glue. His arm was around her shoulders, and his other hand was laced with her hand. The programme went on, then Dyanna asked him,
“Why did you never tell me that you are a son of Daeron Targaryen?”
Maekar stroked her jaw and pushed back her hair behind her ear, then he answered, “Because the truth might drive you away. Being a president’s son is not the biggest turn on, so I’ve learned.”
Dyanna shook her head. “That wouldn’t change my mind... but I understand why you had to hide from me.”
“I guess we both did the same thing,” japed Maekar.
Dyanna snickered and they both laughed; Maekar let her head rest on his shoulder while they watched the programme. He would never let her go now that he has found her again. He was not a pious man, but the Mother and the Maiden may have granted him his prayers.
When the rock band started to play and invited all the guests to dance on the open floor, Dyanna pulled Maekar into the middle and they danced to the loud music. Maekar spotted Baelor with a blonde woman in the middle of it, they were speaking so closely to each other, and Baelor led the woman out of the mosh pit. Maekar reckoned that Baelor must have been introduced to Jena Dondarrion and the woman he was with was Jena.
The music got louder and Dyanna was grinding up on Maekar, and he was more than willing to put his body on her.
Dyanna shouted at him over the loud music, “You want to get out of here?”
Maekar nodded, then Dyanna pulled his hand and Maekar led her to the parking lot.
“Let’s go home!” beamed Maekar.
Dyanna smiled–their home, the penthouse. She giggled at going back home with Maekar and she could never see herself doing anything else. Maekar saw his car parked around the trees, and before they could go in, Dyanna attacked him with kisses. They made out even before they could get in. Maekar wanted to tear off her dress, but he was a gentleman, he would ravage her instead in the four corners of their penthouse.
When they both got into the front seats, Dyanna immediately saw a head poking from the back seat and she turned to shout at that head.
“Lysi! What are you doing here?!”
Lysanne leaned in and greeted them. “Hi! I’m coming with you!”
Maekar was shocked to see Dyanna’s youngest sibling, trying to stow away.
“Go back to Mum! She could be worried sick right now!” urged Dyanna.
“You won’t even introduce me to your boyfriend? Ugh!” groaned Lysanne, then she turned to Maekar to introduce herself, “Hello, I’m Lysanne Yellesanna Dayne. And you are?”
Maekar chortled and he shook Lysanne’s hand. “Maekar Targaryen.”
“Lysi, get out! Get back to the party!”
Lysanne cried out, “I don’t want to! I want to come with you!”
Dyanna turned to Maekar. “Just give me a second.”
Dyanna rolled her eyes and got out of the car and opened the passenger seat to drag Lysanne out of the back seat. Lysanne was throwing a tantrum all the way when Dyanna dragged her away, but Maekar opened the door and called for Lysanne.
“You can come with us next time! I have a playstation at the penthouse! Do you play?”
Lysanne laughed and shouted back, “Yes! Street Fighter!”
That time, Dyanna carried Lysanne in her arms and they disappeared by the trees at the corner. Maekar laughed to himself after that entire kerfuffle; youngest siblings are indeed their eldest siblings' headache, and he would know because he was Baelor’s constant headache when they were younger.
After a few moments, Dyanna came back alone. She sat shotgun and beamed at Maekar, “Let’s go.”
Maekar kissed her before they drove off. “Let’s go.”
The open road welcomed them and Maekar had to focus on the road now, but his hand was on Dyanna’s hand all the while they drove away. When they got home, they left a trail of clothes on the floor and on the way to the bedroom. When they were naked and kneeling at the bed; Dyanna embraced Maekar.
“I’m sorry for saying those things… About your face.”
Maekar kissed her forehead, and he hummed, “You were hurt then.”
Dyanna shook her head. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, please…”
Maekar kissed her on the lips and murmured, “I forgive you.”
She sighed and they made love. Dyanna welcomed Maekar into her body and they became one for the night, and they only wish to be one every night, and all the nights, for the rest of their lives.
Maekar woke up and found Dyanna’s body splayed over him. He kissed her forearm and when she opened her eyes, Maekar kissed her in the lips.
Maekar whispered, “Good morning, babe.”
She stretched her body out with a smile; Maekar kissed her again on the lips and then he asked her,
“What do you want for breakfast?”
Dyanna mumbled, “The usual.”
Maekar hummed in agreement, “Eggs and spiced bacon.”
He kissed her again for the last time and he got up; Dyanna clung to his naked form, but he got away from her, and he wore a pair of cotton pants.
“See you in a minute,” chuckled Maekar.
When Maekar reached the kitchen, the phone rang and he saw from the caller ID that it was Daemon Blackfyre—his half-Uncle. Maekar answered immediately.
“Hello? Daemon?”
Maekar’s eyes instinctively looked at the scar he had above his left wrist. Daemon gave him that scar, and for that Baelor broke his nose and lacrosse stick, thus earning the moniker Breakspear.
Daemon spoke through the line, “Hi, Maek. Are you free? Do you want to spar?”
Daemon was an accomplished swordsman and fencer; when they were all still children in the Keep and when Maekar was still a Prince, they were all trained by Ser Quentyn Ball and Maekar would always be paired with Daemon. It was true that Daemon was a more skillful fencer, but Maekar was a tough child, and no number of punches or blows could keep him down.
“I can’t... I-I'm busy today. Sorry, Mon.”
Daemon chuckled lightly at the other end, and he spoke, “Listen. Do me a favor–watch the news at 10 o’clock.”
Maekar’s brows knitted and he leaned against the wall.
“Why? What’s happening?”
Daemon inhaled sharply and beamed, “History, Maek.”
Daemon ended the call and Maekar hung up the phone on the wall. He shrugged and started to cook breakfast for them. Dyanna got dressed and turned on the TV in the living room; she tuned in the news channel and saw that a live interview was being televised. Maekar served their breakfast in the living room and then he saw Daemon being interviewed.
“Wait... Daemon told me to watch the news at 10 o’clock.”
Dyanna turned to him. “He’s your half-uncle, isn’t he?”
Maekar set their plates down and sat beside Dyanna and he replied, “Yes... but why is he being interviewed right now?”
Maekar and Dyanna watched the interview and then Daemon spoke about the welfare of the smallfolk. It would make sense because he is a senator, but then, the interviewer asked him what he would do to achieve that.
“There is no other way, but to declare it. I am publicly announcing my intention to run for President of the Seven Kingdoms.”
Dyanna saw the shock in Maekar’s face; he ran to the kitchen to call Baelor, and he had to try thrice before he got ahold of Baelor.
“Bael, I saw the news.”
Baelor sighed at the other end. “Yeah. He was going to run after all.”
“What would happen now?”
“Let’s hope that the people of Westeros still believe in Dad.”
It shouldn’t strike fear in them; they know that their Dad can beat Daemon at the election, but there was a sense of unease that Daemon chose to run now. Rumors were spread that Daemon was still bitter that his half-sister, Daenerys, was married off to Prince Maron, that’s why he decided to compete with Daerry; while other rumors circulated that he intends to claim his birthright as the true of the Iron Throne and bring back the monarchy once he had won. It threatened Daerry’s administration, and it spelled out chaos for the entirety of Westeros.
A week after Daemon’s declaration to run for president, the day of filing of candidacy came and both camps were seen in the Courthouse.
Daerry’s family was complete, even his mother and uncle were present. Maekar wore a suit and tie for the occasion, while Dyanna wore a plum dress suit with a skirt. Rhaegel had met Dyanna and he now has a new friend. Dyanna helped Rhaegel with his tie and they conversed happily, while Baelor talked to their Uncle Aemon. It was already past 7 o’clock in the morning and they were just waiting for the office to open and Daerry would submit his form of candidacy.
Myriah looked around and saw how happy Maekar was with Dyanna around. She knew that Dyanna is a nice girl and she was even jiving with Rhaegel; that made Myriah smile. However, Aerys was nowhere to be found, and that made her a little lonely but she was sure that he would come around. She turned her attention to her husband, and he smiled at her.
“This is it. For the second time,” gushed Daerry.
Myriah nodded. “And just like the first time, we’ll do it—together.”
Daerry wrapped his arm around her shoulder and kissed her quickly on the lips. After a few moments, Brynden Rivers, or Bloodraven to some, arrived at the Courthouse, and he was not alone. He was accompanied by his half-sister and paramour, Shiera Seastar.
“Brynden. Thank you for the support,” murmured Daerry as he shook his half-brother's hand.
“We believe in you, just as much as the first time, brother.”
Daerry greeted Shiera, “Dear sister.”
Shiera gave him a hug and then she turned to Myriah to give her a peck on the cheek.
“Daerry. Myriah,” greeted Shiera, then she continued, “We are in full support of your candidacy. If you were a king instead of a president, we would still stand with the Red Dragon.”
Daerry chuckled at that notion—the media outlets have branded their camp as the Red Dragon, while Daemon’s camp was branded as the Black Dragon because of how Daemon’s family crest is the inverse of the Targaryen sigil.
Daerry looked around and from the inside, he could hear supporters of both sides clamoring. He shouldn’t worry for the campaign or even winning, because he has all the support he needs; but because of the longstanding poisonous rumor that his father has spread–of him being the son of Ser Aemon and Queen Naerys–it was slowly doing damage to his reputation and further reinforcing Daemon’s cause.
Out of nowhere, they heard the doors of the courthouse open. They all saw the Blacks come into the foyer of the courthouse. Daemon Blackfyre was accompanied by his wife, Lady Rohanne of Tyrosh and the twins, Aegon and Aemon Blackfyre. Alongside them was one of the great bastards, the imposing Aegor Rivers, now the governor of the Riverlands. He became the governor because the people voted for him as he was a king’s son, but through and through, he is still a legitimized bastard. Lastly, they were accompanied by Daemon’s mother, Lady Daena Targaryen.
The two sides of the campaign met in the middle; the Reds and the Blacks. Both sides looked at each other for a moment; Daerry stared at his half-brother, Daemon, whom their departed father loved so much. When he was born, there were uncertainties surrounding his paternity, that it went as far as claiming Baelor the blessed to be his father. But to no avail, Daena named Aegon IV as Daemon’s father. It was twenty-five years ago, after Daena had introduced him and Myriah at the Harrenhal open of ‘71.
There was static in the air, it could crackle at any point and start something else entirely; but the air in the hall shifted, Daemon called to his older brother.
“Brother!”
Daemon held out his hand to shake Daerry’s hand. Of course, as a sign of civility, Daerry took Daemon’s hand. The tension was brought down, and both sides stood at ease, and then the media came pouring at the hall to take photos of the entire Targaryen clan. Divided by cause, but still the same blood ran in their veins.
Daerry gave Daemon a hug and greeted him, “Mon. It’s nice to run into you here.”
Daemon laughed and smiled at his brother. “Likewise.”
Daemon observed other family members who were greeting each other in the middle of that scene; Daerry's sons immediately shook his sons’ hand; he knew his eldest, Aegon Blackfyre, had made Baelor sort of his idol. While Aemon Blackfyre shook hands with Maekar.
What both men didn’t see was that Aegor Rivers immediately went to Shiera Seastar and he greeted her with a kiss on the lips, to which Shiera, though she looked uncomfortable with what Aegor had done, politely backed away from him and excused herself.
“Daemon, Daerry! Over here!” yelled a photographer.
They posed for the photos and Daerry and Daemon stood together. While the cameras flashed, Daemon whispered to Daerry,
“May the best man win, brother.”
Daerry’s smile slowly disappeared.
“The decision lies with the people…” muttered Daerry, then he added, nonchalantly, “But of course... May the best man win.”
Daemon smirked at Daerry and left his brother to prepare to submit his candidacy. Myriah was in the middle of a conversation with Daena when Daerry came back to her side.
“Marmi, come on,” urged Daerry, but when he saw Daena, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and greeted her, “Ena, how are you?”
Daena hugged Daerry. “I’m getting too old for these public appearances.”
They laughed and the two camps separated to prepare for the submission of the papers required to file a candidacy. The media feasted and took photos of both camps, and the reporters littered the courthouse hall. It was a circus, and the photographers clamored for more photos.
In the middle of it, Baelor was expecting Aerys to turn up, but he was nowhere to be found. After his Dad had submitted his candidacy, the photographers took shots; however, he noticed something else… Shiera was hiding in a corner.
“Hey, Shiera, are you alright?”
She threw herself at Baelor and embraced him; she cried on Baelor’s shoulder and she babbled,
“Aegor kissed me when we saw each other.”
What they didn’t know was Brynden standing beside them and he had heard everything. Shiera was alarmed and shouted for Brynden.
“Brynden, dear?” called out Shiera, but Brynden was already headed towards Aegor.
“No! Brynden, no!” pleaded Shiera.
Brynden went to Aegor and grabbed him by his collar.
“Did you kiss Shiera without her consent?!”
Aegor was amused by how Brynden manhandled him. “Am I not allowed to kiss her? She’s my dear sister too.”
Baelor mediated between his half-uncles, and he tried to break up the fight.
“Enough! People are watching!” sneered Baelor.
Maekar went to Baelor’s aid and held Aegor back, which allowed Baelor to hold Brynden back. Rhaegel witnessed Brynden and Aegor struggling to hit each other, while his brothers kept the peace, but it was too much for his senses, so he covered both of his ears. It was a good thing that Dyanna held him while all of that happened.
Brynden shook off Baelor from him and he glared at Aegor.
“Stay away from Shiera!” hissed Brynden.
He stepped away and left the courthouse with Shiera. Finally, the situation dissipated; it was fortunate that the photographers were distracted with the two candidates and the other would-be candidates who were also submitting their candidacy and not with that situation that would be a PR horror story.
Daemon was made aware of what happened and he glared at Brynden from across the hall; Baelor caught that and placed himself at Daemon’s line of sight. Daemon tilted his head up, while Baelor nodded at Daemon. The Blacks left and Aegor took one last look at Shiera who stood beside Myriah and Dyanna. It was a known fact that Shiera had tried to dissuade Aegor from pursuing her, because she is with their brother, Brynden; but Aegor seemed to desire Shiera above all else, and it has left Shiera conflicted and tormented.
The Reds came out of the courthouse and waited for the limousines that will transport them all back to the HQ. After a while, Baelor was approached by Jena.
“Are you alright, love?” cooed Jena.
She kissed Baelor on the cheek and he tried to smile. “I’m alright, love.”
Jena was called by Ser Aemon and she had to leave Baelor, then Jaela approached Baelor. She never dares to approach Baelor whenever Jena is around because she was sure she would only get Jena’s ire.
“You good, boss?”
It made Baelor snicker at how contrasting Jena and Jaela had chosen to call him by; he smiled at Jaela to reassure her because she looked worried.
“Never better, kid.”
Maekar and Dyanna approached them; Baelor had met Dyanna in a family dinner before and he saw how giddy Maekar looked whenever they were together.
“Bael, that was fucked up,” breathed Maekar.
Baelor shook his head. “Bittersteel never considers the time and place to be a pervert.”
Maekar looked at Jaela who stood beside Baelor and remembered the night he saw them together at their Dad’s birthday party.
“Wait, is this Jena Dondarrion?”
Baelor had a puzzled look on his face. “H-How did you know about Jena?” he turned to Jaela and he sputtered, “No! No, this is not Jena. This is Jaela Caswell.”
Both Maekar and Dyanna were confused because Dyanna had assumed from Maekar that the blonde woman who stood before them was Jena Dondarrion.
Jaela finally spoke up, “I’m Jaela Caswell,” she chuckled nervously and she shook Maekar and Dyanna’s hands. “I’m not Jena Dondarrion.”
Maekar and Dyanna were a little confused because they saw Baelor’s eyes mellow when he was talking to Jaela. But Maekar dismissed it, while Dyanna wanted to know Jaela more.
“So, Jaela, what are you to Baelor?”
Jaela looked surprised to hear that question, but she answered it with tact, “Oh, I’m his assistant.”
Maekar and Dyanna exchanged looks; but Baelor and Jaela looked away from each other, and the awkwardness was evident on their faces. Jaela had only been working for Baelor for a week, and Baelor had found her amiable, at least.
A limousine came and Daerry and Myriah got in, Rhaegel was with them. Another arrived and Baelor arranged for Maekar and Dyanna to ride with their Uncle Aemon and Grandma Naerys. Baelor also secured Jena and Jaela who rode together when a car came.
Baelor leaned on the window of the car, the side where Jena was.
“I’ll meet you there.”
Jena touched Baelor’s hand then the car drove away. Baelor observed the car make a turn and disappear, then he heard a voice call out to him.
“Baelor?”
He turned to see one of his college buddies, Vaenar Velaryon.
Baelor clapped his shoulder and greeted him happily. “Vaenar! I haven’t seen you in ages! What do you do now?”
Vaenar presented his suit and badge. “I’m a journalist now, mate.”
Baelor read his badge and it said The Daily Raven.
“You work with my brother, Aerys?”
“Oh yeah. We’re fellow journalists.”
Baelor observed Vaenar’s expression when he mentioned Aerys; Vaenar knew Baelor well and Vaenar also knew Baelor could detect anything by just a glance.
“He’s doing alright at work?”
Vaenar knew lying wouldn’t help, so he told Baelor the truth, “Aerys is… Well, some blokes think he always gets a pass because your Dad made it possible for him to get the job.”
Baelor remained quiet, wanting to hear more.
“He’s not proving himself either. He only writes pieces about art, dance, or whatever lifestyle article he could write. He’s not getting down with us in the field–the nitty gritty; where right now, every correspondent is needed.”
Vaenar touched Baelor’s shoulder. “I know he’s your brother, if you could talk sense to him… that his world doesn’t revolve around books and everything that is nice. The real world is out here–this monumental event of two half-brothers campaigning against each other.”
Baelor understood Vaenar. “Thanks for the tip, mate.”
Baelor sighed deeply and remembered what Aerys had expressed that night a week ago. He wanted to help Aerys, but Baelor doesn’t know how; or if Aerys even needs his help.
At the hidden studio at Rhaenys’ Hill; Aerys was back at the exhibit. He was standing alone and in front of the macramé sculpture of a mother giving birth.
“It’s quite bizarre, isn’t it?”
Aelinor’s voice caught Aerys off guard; Aelinor had startled him and he almost toppled down the sculpture if Aelinor hadn’t caught him. Aerys sighed and laughed when they saw each other and Aelinor giggled at Aerys.
Aelinor pointed out, “You’re back.”
Aerys scratched the back of his head. “I forgot to take photographs of you. It’s important for the article.”
Aelinor smirked. She knew it wasn’t, but she understood why Aerys was back.
“Uhm, so Bronn is here too?”
Aelinor shook her head. “No. He has business back at home. But he’ll be back tonight.”
Aerys sighed quietly; the truth why he was back is because he wanted to see Aelinor again. It was enough that Bronn was not there, he could talk to Aelinor alone for now.
But Aelinor took a step closer and stood by his side. “Do you do dinners?”
Aerys was confused, but he answered, “I do. I just had a family dinner, a few nights back.”
Aelinor smiled. “Then have dinner with us tonight. Bronn and I haven’t had any guests in a while.”
Aerys dared to ask, “Is he your husband?”
“Bronn? No.”
Aerys felt a little relieved, but she followed it with, “Let’s just say he is my mentor… and I’m his muse.”
“Ah, the artist is also the muse. I might add that to my article.”
Aelinor chuckled, “Then what are you, Aerys Targaryen?”
He joked, “I’m the one who will cuck the mentor… and steal his muse.”
Aelinor let out a loud laugh until they were both laughing. But that joke was half-meant, Aelinor was not sure how much of it is the truth.
She instructed him, “7 o’clock. I’ll give you our address later.”
Aerys nodded. “Sure. Now, can I take a photo of you?”
“Be my guest.”
Aerys took out the camera issued to him by his boss and looked into the viewfinder and took shots of Aelinor. She stood by her sculptures and smiled for the shots. The shots did no justice as to how beautiful she was and Aerys couldn’t wait to see those photos developed.
After that impromptu photoshoot, Aerys hugged Aelinor before he left.
“I’ll see you later tonight. Bring some wine,” beamed Aelinor.
“I will. See you, Aelinor.”
Aerys took a last look at Aelinor as he exited the studio. He has never acted this way before. He had girlfriends before and he was selective of them because not everyone wants his way of dating. Aerys felt something awaken in him the moment he met Aelinor. He made him want to do things he never thought of or avoided altogether. But he has to consider, he would be stealing Aelinor from Bronn. If he had to, then he was prepared for it.
Come nightfall; Aerys drove to the address that Aelinor gave him. It was located between Visensya’s Hill and Aegon’s Hill; in the rich suburbs where the privileged noble houses have built their homes whenever they are visiting Kingslanding. Aerys entered a driveway covered in vines, he thought he was in a labyrinth, but he reached the pebbled road in front of Bronn Rosby’s grand villa. The stone façade of the villa was remarkable, while the crawling vines that covered it gave it an ancient mystery to it. Aerys was welcomed by an aide and he was led to the foyer where he was instructed to wait for his host.
The foyer had a high ceiling where most of Rosby's family portraits were hung, while the family crest painted on a shield hung by the middle. If the monarchy was still existent, Bronn Rosby should be falling at Aerys' feet right now because he is hosting a Targaryen Prince. But times have changed and families like Rosbys’ had made their status in level with the Targaryens.
Bronn and Aelinor came down the staircase; Bronn was dressed sharply in green, while Aelinor was dressed in a backless brown silk gown and she looked glowing as Aerys cast his eyes upon her.
“Hello, Aerys,” chimed Aelinor as she stepped down the last level of the stairs.
Bronn shook hands with Aerys, while Aelinor kissed him on the cheek as a greeting.
“I brought wine–Arbor gold.”
Aerys handed the bottle to Bronn and he inspected it.
“A vintage. Must have been from the Keep’s wine cellars?”
Aerys shrugged. “I just told the butler to pick out the best.”
Bronn smiled knowingly when he glanced at Aelinor. Aerys was brought into the dining room–a large high-ceiling room with open louvre doors that were opened to let the night breeze in as the weather was getting warmer. Aerys sat at Bronn’s right, who sat at the head of the table, and opposite Aelinor, who sat at Bronn’s left.
The prepared meal were a fusion of Dornish and Crownlands cuisine and Bronn remarked,
“I’ve heard that the Keep has a Dornish cook and I can imagine that you grew up with spices in your food.”
Aerys smiled. “Thank you. How considerate. But it’s my youngest brother, Maekar, who loves the spices. I’m afraid I didn’t take to the dragon peppers.”
They continued with the meal and it was brought over as courses; the three of them talked about everything that was to talk about by Crownlanders. But Bronn ordered the pear brandy from Tyrosh to be brought out and that’s when the conversations eased in and tongues loosened, until they were laughing about everything.
Bronn leaned over the table and spoke, “You know, I’ve met you before. You probably didn’t recognize me then.”
Aerys tilted his head as he tried to remember if he had met Bronn before. Aelinor smirked and wiggled her eyebrows at Bronn. He rolled his eyes and exhaled loudly.
“Fine. Go get the album, pet.”
Aelinor stood happily and went out of the dining room. When she came back she had a large portfolio on her hand and she opened it and showed the photos attached to it. Aelinor laid out the specific photo that Bronn was dreading about.
Aelinor showed two photos to Aerys of Bronn dressed in drag. The other one was him scantily clad in an almost stripped suit and stockings pinned to lacy garter belts. That surprised Aerys because he had never thought that a man such as Bronn would get into something like that.
Bronn explained it, “I appeared on the music video for the Moonsongs. Rhaeva asked me to and I couldn’t say no to a dear friend.”
Aerys’ attention was caught and he spoke up, “You’re friends with Rhaeva?”
“Absolutely,” chimed Bronn, then he added, “Anyway, how is she? Last I heard she was on tour.”
Aerys shook his head and his jaw sat above his fist as he leaned on the table while looking at Bronn’s drag photos.
“We’re not together anymore, so I wouldn’t know where Rhaeva is now.”
Aelinor touched Aerys’ arm across the table, and Aerys accepted that gesture… something Bronn was observing.
Aerys continued, “She told me she was seeing Lyonel Baratheon.”
Bronn chuckled and gushed, “Oh, the Laughing Storm. Yeah, he definitely laughs all the way–”
Aelinor giggled, “Even in bed.”
Aerys flinched and he blurted out, “How would you know?”
Bronn snickered and he held up his finger to gesture at Aelinor to keep quiet.
Aerys found it odd–the way they talked about Lyonel, but he brushed it past him. Bronn then asked him again,
“Have you ever been in drag before, Aerys? It’s quite liberating.”
Aerys scoffed and shook his head. “No. Never.”
Aelinor asked the question, “Would you like to?”
He chuffed because the way Bronn and Aelinor stared at him–they were seriously suggesting he should get in drag.
Aerys stuttered, “I-I’d never done it. It’s not for me, I’m sorry.”
Bronn singsonged, “That’s what I said at first.”
Aelinor stood and went by Aerys’ side. “I’ll be your fairy dragmother, come, Aerys!”
She dragged him out of the dining room and up the stairs to her room; while Bronn followed suit, but at a slower pace. Aerys didn’t know why he let himself get caught up with these people, but the way Aelinor held him, he knew why. Aelinor took Aerys inside her room and there was a divan outside of her door and there Bronn sat and waited.
“We’re going to roleplay. This is one of our favorite things to do.”
Bronn hummed, “Let’s do the Whorehouse, shall we, Aelie?”
Aelinor giggled in delight as she pulled Aerys inside and locked her doors.
“Whorehouse? What did Bronn mean by that?”
Aelinor didn’t answer him, instead she helped him out of his clothes. Aerys let Aelinor take his clothes off, even his underwear. He had sworn to remain celibate until marriage, but the pear brandy had loosened his resolve and he really wanted Aelinor’s hands on him, for some reason. She took out her clothes and laid them out on her bed; lingerie, garter belts and stockings, and revealing lacy bras. She selected what Aerys would wear and he willingly wore it for her; Aelinor also put on some make up on Aerys’ face, and at one point, she kissed him to buffer out the sheen of the lipstick she put on his lips.
“Pretty girl. Mr. Rosby will like you…” whispered Aelinor as she stood behind Aerys.
He faced the mirror and he saw Aelinor caressing him; he could feel himself getting harder from her touch; his heart hammering against his chest. It wasn’t over yet–Aelinor proceeded to take her dress off and wear the second set of lingerie she had laid out on the bed.
“Now, you be good to Madamé–and give her the coin that Mr. Rosby will give you.”
Aerys was in it too deep to get out. It seems that he is about to lose his maidenhead tonight and it both frightened and excited him.
“You may come in, Mr. Rosby.”
The doors opened and Bronn had his hand on his waist.
“Is this the new girl?” purred Bronn as he inspected Aerys who stood frozen in the middle of the room.
“Newest of the new, Mr. Rosby,” sang Aelinor.
Aerys suddenly blurted out, “I still have my maidenhead…!”
Bronn gasped theatrically, then he stroked Aerys’ face and touched the frills of his negligeé.
“Fresh meat, you don’t say,” murmured Bronn, then he winked at Aelinor, “You’ve outdone yourself, Madamé.”
Aerys wanted to stop Bronn from closing in; Bronn cupped his face and Aerys expected it, but once their lips touched and Bronn kissed him, poking his mouth with his tongue, Aerys gasped and he had his eyes opened the whole time.
Bronn whispered into his ear, “Give in to it... I know you want to.”
Aelinor touched him from the back; Bronn kissed him in the front—Aerys’ stream of thoughts became blank and like slipping into a warm bath... he let himself go, and he reciprocated Bronn’s kisses. Aelinor borrowed Aerys’ face and she kissed him then; Aerys’ hands explored her body, while Bronn explored his.
Aelinor ended up in the middle of Aerys and Bronn—Aerys took her by the front and Bronn took her from the back... Aerys and Bronn exchanged more times that he could count. The whole night seemed like a vivid dream and Aerys could not believe it himself... the maidenhead he had kept safe all these years, he gave it willingly to Aelinor and Bronn.
When they got tired, Aerys laid between Aelinor and Bronn in bed. Aelinor ran her fingers over his pale-blond hair, while Aerys admired her face as Bronn embraced him.
“I’ve never thought I’d lose my maidenhead this way.”
“Then lucky you,” chuckled Bronn.
“I think you’ll be coming over for dinner more often,” murmured Aelinor, then she kissed Aerys again.
Aerys chuckled, “I think I’ll be here every night.”
The three of them laughed as they rested for now. Aerys had been so afraid of sex his whole life, he never knew he was missing so much. And now he had just found out—he has an appetite for both sexes, and that probably it’s Aelinor he preferred more.
The night was still young and there was no telling when the three of them would go hungry for each other again.
Dyanna told Maekar she had to go to the bathroom before they left for their morning class.
“Babe, I’ll wait for you at the door, and don’t forget to bring your helmet, babe,” reminded Maekar then he kissed Dyanna.
“Sure, babe. I’ll be there.”
Dyanana smiled as she watched Maekar close the door behind him; but as soon as he was gone, she rushed into the bathroom and opened the door. Her eyes sought the sink, and she found what she left there a few minutes ago. Dyanna hovered over the sink as she stared at the two lines starting to appear on the pregnancy test kit. She covered her mouth in shock as she watched it become more opaque, a clear indication of what her situation was going to be.
She looked into the mirror before her as a tear fell off her eye. Dyanna has tried five pregnancy tests now, this one is her sixth… And all of it came out with two lines—positive results.
Her hands went to her belly, and she tried to feel the life growing inside her. How would she tell Maekar? Would he accept it? It terrified her that he might cast her away again, but if he does, she will pack her things up again and leave Kingslanding with a broken heart and child on her belly.
Dyanna fixed her face and hair and pocketed the kit on her jeans. She hurried out of their unit, got inside the elevator, then met with Maekar on the ground floor. When Dyanna came out of the revolving doors, she was already putting on her helmet, and she jumped at the back of Maekar’s big bike.
“Let’s go, or we’ll be late for our morning class!”
She wrapped her arms around Maekar, and they drove off. For now, all she has to worry about is morning class and how they will get to campus in one piece. The time to tell Maekar of their situation will come sooner or later.
P.S. I know it's AKOTSK/ASOIAF universe but I used real life months to keep track of time because of Dyanna's situation by the end of the chapter 😉

THE NAMEDAY—Maekar Targaryen
Maekar Targaryen x wife!reader
content: It’s Maekar’s nameday and you have just the gift for him.

a/n: happy birthday, anon!! I hope this was what you wanted and that you have an amazing day!! <3
Maekar never wanted his nameday to be a big deal in the slightest, to which you were more than okay with. Before you had children you would spend the day locked in your chambers doing what every marital couple did.
Though you did only get to spend one name day like that, as the aftermath led to Daeron.
After that you spent your days with your children, often having a new one by the time the next one rolled around. Though every year when you questioned him about what he wanted for a gift he never did quite give you an answer.
You typically gifted him something he could use. New clothing, scabbards, weapons, or with input from the children in what they wanted to give their father.
This year you took matters into your own hands.
“When you said you had a gift this was not what I was expecting,” he stated, the door shutting behind him quickly, barring it to prevent anyone from disturbing the pair of you.
You sat up slightly, wearing nothing except the grin that filled your face, “Yes it was,” you argued. The sheet that had been pulled over your chest to cover your chest slipping down to lay in your lap.
He shook his head as he began to unbutton his doublet. You made a hum on approval which caused his fingers to work faster, but not fast enough in your own opinion.
“If you take any longer husband I will have to get myself started.” You pushed the covers away fully exposing yourself causing the man’s cock to harden even further, as your legs spread presenting the glory that he was eager to be inside.
“You are a vixen,” he muttered, tossing his boot halfway across the room, hitting something, but neither of you seemed to truly care.
“You loved that about me,” you countered, your fingers trailing your belly before dipping in between your folds. You let out that sound you knew drove him wild as your fingers gathered your slickness circling your clit slowly.
“Wait for me!” your husband hissed continuing to try and undress himself, but you ignored him.
“Be faster,” you moaned, your head dipping back as you played with your cunt.
“Sevens fucks,” he muttered, stumbling slightly over his pants and breeches as he kicked both to the floor before finally having freed himself from his clothes. He moved quickly crawling up the bed until he was over you.
He snatched your hand out from in between your legs holding in between the pair of you as he trapped you in between his muscular thighs on either side of your hips. “I told you to wait,” he told you.
You only grinned up at him. He shook his head before opening his mouth and pulling your hand into the warmth, “This tastes better than any sweets could,” he told you, his tongue moving around your fingers cleaning them fully.
Once he deemed he was done he grabbed your arm leading it above your head before he did the same to the other, wrapping his left hand around your wrists as he stroked himself with his right.
“I told you to wait, and now you are going to pay the consequences.”
You rolled your eyes, and opened your mouth to retort, but instead he leaned down pressing his mouth to yours. He used your surprise to his advantage, slipping his tongue into your mouth. You moaned slightly as you could taste yourself on him.
Maekar pulled away so he could look at your face. He watched your face contort as he slipped himself into your drooling hole with one thrust. You tried to fight against him to free your hands, but he was stronger, holding both down with ease.
“Maekar,” you whined, wanting to run your hand down the muscles of his back.
He didn’t reply, only beginning to move his hips against yours. He withdrew himself only completely, before slamming down into you harshing causing your eyes to roll back, “No insolent remark now, dear wife?” he asked, fucking into you brutally continuously.
You tried to form a coherent remark, you tried to say something that would cause him to roll his eyes or perhaps even deliver a smack across your ass, but you were so full of your husband you could not truly think of anything but him.
Him and his cock that was currently fucking you so deliciously you were sure that you could have finished just from this alone, but you knew he would not allow you to get off that easy for disobeying him.
The wet sound of him fucking in and out of your cunt paired with the noise of his flesh slapping against yours. He finally freed your hand, but you hardly had any time to acknowledge the fact before he was flipping the pair of you over without ever withdrawing himself.
You now sat above him, stilling for only a moment before you took over grinding your hips down against his. He leaned back with a pleased smirk on his lips, his arms moved behind his head as you watched his biceps flex, “Give me my gift, jorrāeliarzy ñuha.”
Your hands braced themself against the faded scars of his chest, your nails digging crescents into his pale skin. ‘You look so fucking beautiful like this,” he told you.
You knew exactly what he meant. Wrecked. Your hair no doubt disheveled your eyes almost fully blown as you used his cock to chase your release.
You dug your nails further into him response causing him to hiss slightly, but he still did not move his hands from behind his head as he watched you fuck yourself down onto him.
“You’re close.”
It wasn’t a question, but a mere observation. He knew you. He knew your body better than he did his own, and could no doubt map it out with his eyes closed if he ever needed too.
You only nodded in response, moving your hips quicker, your clit rubbing against the hair at the base of his cock. Your head tilted back slightly as you coil felt the coil in your belly almost ready to snap, your thighs shaking slightly on either side of his hips.
“My pretty wife is going to cum all over my cock. Such a great nameday gift,” he cooed, his voice half mocking, but you hardly cared.
“Oh, Maekar,” you cried, as you finally felt your orgasm wash over you.
Your entire body felt boneless, as the white hot feeling of relief filled your body to the brim, your vision going blurry. Your husband immediately shot forward from his laxed position, his arms wrapping around your back holding you to him.
He took over, letting you go limp against him as he fucked up into you through your high until you felt his cock twitch inside you moments later filling you with his seed for the countless time.
He did not stop there, thrusting up into you lazily, as his spent slowly began to drip out the sides no doubt making a mess, but neither of you cared. You clenched around him, tears of over stimulation gathering in your eyes as he began to reharden.
“Happy nameday, Maekar,” you mumbled, but sounded slightly slurred as if you were drunk off cock.
“You are the best gift, my love,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of your head, “Now why don’t you be a good wife and get on your hands and knees.”

Grateful Prompt List
74. Spanking | modern!Maekar x f!reader
To be fair, you had been pushing it for the whole day.
Not dramatically. Just the specific low-grade bratty energy that you had discovered early on produced results — a comment here, a look there, the particular tone of voice that you had learned made his jaw do the thing. You had been doing it all evening with the cheerful commitment of someone who knew exactly what they were doing and had decided the consequences were worth it.
Maekar had been watching you do it with the flat patience of a man keeping score.
You were on his sofa. He was in the armchair across from you. The television was on and neither of you were watching it.
"You're doing it on purpose," he said.
"I don't know what you mean," you lilted.
He looked at you. You looked back, smile plastered on your face.
"Come here," he said.
"I'm comfortable here, thank you," you answered back.
A pause in which the flat patience did something that was not quite impatience but was adjacent to it.
"Come here," he said again.
"You come here," your tone almost demanding.
He stood up.
He crossed the room and sat on the sofa beside you and looked at you with the specific quality of a man who had made several decisions and was implementing them in order.
"Over my lap."
You stared at him.
"Absolutely not," you said.
"Over my lap," he insisted, with the flat certain repetition of someone who was not making a request.
"You can't just—"
"I've been watching you do this all evening," he said. "Over my lap."
"But I haven't done anything," you said.
"You've done everything on purpose all evening," he said. "You know what you've done."
You did know what you had done.
"And what if I don't want to?" the playful part of your brain pushed.
"Then say so," he said, completely evenly, "and we'll keep on pretending that we're watching the fucking television."
A pause.
"I didn't say that," you almost pouted. Maekar almost smiled. How well he knew you.
You went over his lap with the specific dignity of someone making a choice and intending it to be clear that it was a choice, which was somewhat undermined by the fact that you were now face down across Maekar's thighs on his sofa on a regular midweek evening.
He pulled up the fabric of your shorts — those fucking almost too thin shorts that had been driving him mad all summer. His hand kneading the meaty round of your ass, large and warm and teasing.
"Still doing it on purpose?" he said.
"Doing what?" you asked into the sofa cushion. He knew you were smiling.
His hand came down on your ass as an answer.
The sound was immediate — sharp and specific — and the sensation that followed was warm and spreading and considerably more interesting than you were going to give him the satisfaction of acknowledging immediately.
"You could have warned me!" If Maekar hadn't known that you were enjoying the whole ordeal, he could've mistaken your tone for a complaint.
"And where's the fun in that?"
"I genuinely—"
Another smack. Same hand. Same flat certainty. Your fingers curled into the sofa cushion.
"Still don't know what you've done?" he teased.
"I'm thinking," you said, fighting against the need to moan. You were not going to give him that satisfaction. Not yet.
A low sound from above you that was the almost-laugh, barely audible, and then his hand again — harder this time, deliberate, and this time you couldn't suppress the sound that came from your mouth.
"There," he said, with the satisfaction of a man whose assessment has been confirmed. "I knew you were into this shit, princess."
"You're so fucking smug about this," you said.
"Yes," he said, immediately, which was so straightforwardly honest that you laughed into the cushion and felt his hand kneading your now reddened ass again, warm and certain, not hitting now, just fondling the skin. "Still bratty?" he said.
"That depends entirely on your hand, big man," you looked back at him and smiled.
"Interesting answer," he said, and his hand moved again.
By the time he decided you had had enough — a calculation he made entirely on his own terms with the flat authority of someone who had established that he was in charge of this specific timeline — your face was pressed into the sofa cushion and you were making sounds that had nothing to do with dignity and the warm spreading heat across your skin had become something considerably more urgent.
He pulled you up.
Into his lap, facing him this time, his hands on your hips and his eyes on your face with the dark focused attention of a man taking stock.
"Still want to be difficult," he said.
"Probably," you said, breathlessly.
His jaw moved. "I can feel you're fucking soaking those shorts," he grind against you, his cock hard against the fabric of his trousers. You moaned at the friction. "And it seems you still haven't learned your lesson."
He kissed you.
Hard and immediate and with the specific quality of a man who had been patient for an entire evening and was done being patient, and you kissed him back with everything the evening had been building toward and felt his hands tighten on your hips and thought, with the last coherent part of your brain, that being bratty at Maekar had an extremely satisfying cost-benefit ratio.
"Bedroom," he said against your mouth.
"Make me," you bit his lower lip and pulled.
The sound he made was low and immediate and he stood up with you in his arms and you yelped and grabbed his shoulders and he carried you toward the stairs with the flat efficient certainty of a man who had been told to make you and had decided that was the correct answer.
"Fucking brat," he mumbled against your neck.
"You love it," you bit his neck in return.
He said nothing. But his arms tightened around you, which was the same thing.
Maekar and spanking is just the perfect combination 🫠🫠
Not my thirsty ass getting distracted by the size of Maekar’s hands… 🥴

Streams of dappled sunlight lit up the chambers in shades of gold and amber, the soft bristling of sheets being the only thing to wake you.
Snores rumbled brazenly into your back, the weight of your husbands chest pressed over your body, sticking along with his skins clammy and pressed into yours. Your arms stretched, attempting free from the heaviness above you but his arm had curled tighter.
“It is too hot.” A mumble whispered into your neck in annoyance.
You chuckled, “It is when you are on top of me.” Your arm clutched around his, somehow still impossibly close despite his complaint.
“No it is this southern sun at an ungodly fucking hour.”
“You should have gotten used to it by now husband,” You turned to face him, twisting in his hold where the fabric of your nightgown bunched around your legs. “I do believe it runs in your blood too.” He only hummed back, pursing his lips in a way where your hand planted across his cheek. He knew better than to protest you, even if he had wanted to, and he didn’t.
After all, you were right.
Dorne.. your homeland. Starfall to be exact. The secluded and mountainous region to the west of your husband’s own motherland of Sunspear, and its ruling house Martell. The castle had stood proud and poignant just as you’d remembered it, the pearlescent rock striking in the sunlight as you’d arrived in carriage over the river Torrentine.
And such many days worth of travelling had proven worthwhile for more than just memory.
Nights burned brighter with the moon clear over the horizon upon the Summer Sea. Spices and incense filled the breeze, and dancers and roamed freely amid court spreading their wears from overseas. You were welcomed by your cousins eagerly, surrounded by none other than your uncle, who ruled the castle after your own grandsire.
It was a custom that both you and Maekar had grown used to, and more than most, comfortable. There was something different there, something softer, warmer. And you had decided you had wanted to share it with your children since their birth. Though court duties and responsibility had proven you unable to depart as often as you’d liked from Summerhall. The last visit being only when you were withchild with your fourth and first girl, Daella.
And so you had taken the chance, ordered respite for a week or two at least, and for Summerhall to be housed by Prince Aerys and his wife Lady Aelinor in your absence.
For the time being, your own family could spent time together, differently.
No court or duty, just peace.
And it had gifted you just that.. for the most part. The youngest children had played from the solar to the riverbank, basking in the sunshine and splashing in the trickling stream alcoved by orange blossoms. The very place you had spent playing as a girl.
It was supposed to be peaceful, gentle and welcoming. It was one of those things. You embraced it in your stride, welcoming as such, the sun gleaming across your skin as you felt the warmth seep in as it once did, basking in the joy around you. Your dress was much different from usual, the soft thin silk of violet gracing your body and hugging at your waist, slinking at your shoulders. The girls wore something similar, dresses of rose and lilac flowing to their ankles as they twirled in awe. Something the courts of home would look unkindly on, but now you found it in you not to care.
Your sons wore their usual tunics, though lighter, in shades of blue and purple and orange replacing the usual crimson and black. And by some grace they had done it without fuss, exploring the grounds from their own respective interests. Aerion had found himself taken with the training yard, watching closely as the master at arms sharpened his sword. A much different one than he had ever seen, the hilt was twisted in gold, the blade rounded with its far point curved inwards.
Aemon had mapped out every corner of the castle, shading himself inside with tapestries and paintings. Daeron had sat himself at the edge of the gardens near a group of gossiping ladies, sipping on a light summer wine with a smirk placed on his lips.
And your Egg, ever the adventurer that he was, had watched over you and the girls as you waded in the waters, scouting the perimeter of the mouth of the river as it fled out into the sea. Your own sworn sword.
There was a shared contentment surrounding you, and you breathed easily for the first time in a long time. Though it seemed such peace could not last for long, as most of your children insisted they take after their father.
“Mother must it be so hot.”
Rhae whined aloud, tugging onto the small of your skirts as you walked with them.
“You sound much like your father.”
The glass ceiling of the conservatory opened up into the courtyard up the stairs from you, where your eyes wandered. Maekar stood in the archway, seemingly enthralled at whatever your uncle had said, loosening the fabric of his collar. His face was already a beat red, nodding along carefully with a gritted tight lipped smile.
The gardens were lush and in bloom, and the girls had already plucked small flowers from their beds and tucked them into their delicately braided hair. But even that did little to cure the one problem they all seemed to have.
Your eyes fell downward when you heard the whine again, this time more tired. Small violet eyes blinked up at you with a reddened flush that matched her father’s. Your hand graced smoothed over her cheek, moving the pair of you into the shade under the tree.
“We haven’t been out for long my love, have you been in the shade yet..?”
She only stared, huffing, “No.”
You had warned them of this, that it was not like it was at home. That the sun could burn just as easily as rainfall in the South. But still they did not listen. And to make matters worse, you found she was not the only one affected.
Egg had slowed down from running, swinging his legs over a rock where he had placed himself just beside Daella, who instead of plucking flowers she only fumbled with the grass, sweat beading her brow.
From where you were crouched you could see the rest of them. Daeron doing what he could to fan himself and wipe away the sweat from his forehead. Aerion pretended not to care as such, but even he had perched himself panting against the balustrade.
Aemon strolled out that very moment, and a smile came across your face as you shook your head. Certainly he was your smartest child, and had already minded himself from the sun since your arrival. But still the glare hit the pale of his skin as soon as he had walked into it.
“Gods be good.”
You swept the silver strands from Rhae’s face, sitting her down where the bank dipped into a little poo, “You must take breaks from the sun sweetling.. here.” Blue water sloshed against the sand and the tree root, and somehow for a moment it felt cooler.
“Better?” You raised an eyebrow at her.
“Better, mother.” She smiled then, urging the other two to join her, and they did so without fuss, soon all lazing happily by the stream with their feet dangling in the water.
“Perhaps a drink will be best hm?”
They all mumbled out a string of pleases as you took off, ordering them to stay put and where you could see them. You stepped up to the higher courtyard, smiling softly at the ladies who were just as unaffected as you, placing yourself at your husband’s side.
“Niece? lovely of you to join us.. I was telling your husband about the tourneys soon to be held here.” Your uncle spoke proudly, resting an arm out where you stood between them.
“Well, no doubt Aerion should be entering upon the lists, uncle.”
“In this heat? If you insist to kill the boy.” Maekar spoke as he leaned toward you, wrapping an arm at your waist instinctively.
“That was what I was here to mention. Might we pass water to the children they seem rather.. exhausted from this heat.”
“I forget you Targaryen’s are not as used sun as us.. of course..” He signalled then, calling a young squire over to hand the children, rather everyone, cups of wine and water. His dark ringlets mussed his head as he nodded, circling back into the castle.
“Perhaps you could use it too, my Prince.” Your uncle gestured to your husband with a teasing smile, still pulling on the seam of his collar to let air in, or the lack thereof.
“I’am fine.” He gritted as the pair of you laughed, placing a hand into his chest gently.
He soon departed as he was called away by yet another lord, leaving you both with a smile and a gentle command to find shade. You took his arm as you both made for the terraced table and chairs looking out over the gardens.
Aemon stood with a glass, and as soon as you looked, so did each one of them, taking gulp after gulp from the cups the squire had handed them.
“Well it seems one of our children listens at least.” You eyed Aemon and then to Maekar, tapping the metal of the table with a smirk.
“I’m surprised there is one at all.” He rolled his eyes, but they did not move from you, instead he took you in. For such chaos you all seemed to bring, you looked so peaceful, so at home. And he’d have shirked all duty then and there if he could just to see you in such a state.
As beautiful, as always.
A part of him seemed to relax at the sight, sighing as his back pressed deep into the chair with a creak, watching over the sights and account for every one of your children.
And much like your uncle’s request and your own, Maekar had done the very same. He drank the glass down in front of him instantly when you were not looking, pouring another not long after.
Stubborn.

The day continued on, and before long, after helpings of jugs of water, and a steady order to mind themselves in the sun, the children were rejuvenated once more. Egg splashed about in the water, catching his sisters where they fought back and hid with a mischievous expertise.
And beside you and your husband, your three eldest boys decided to sit with you. Aemon with his book, Daeron sipping from light summer wine, and Aerion with a down turned scowl that was the very image of his father’s, but from the pull in his brow you knew. He too, was content.
Though it didn’t help where you all had ended up, with supper concluded and bellies full, the evening brought different problems. Ones you had managed to account for just in time.
“I think it is burnt..” Daella whined.
“Me too.” Rhae flopped herself across the bed, trying not to pick at the skin.
“It itches.” Egg cried at last, studying the burnt skin on his legs.
“Do not itch it.” You called at last, thanking the maester from the doorway and stepping in a tour skirts fluttered behind you.
The ointment slid cool between your hands, smelling of aloe and mint, dipped from the jar one of the maesters had given you. The old man had offered to do it himself, but with the state of your children, you rathered your hand be torn off than someone else’s.
“I trust you can do it on your own..” Daeron sagged his shoulders and nodded, dipping his hand into the pit to take it into his hands with an eagerness. Surprisingly he hadn’t been so awful, not the fairest of your children, only his shoulders and nose had been burnt red by the sun, and he spread it onto the skin generously.
The girls had a rash from their legs, as well as Egg, who has it on his neck and arms and his chest from the low crease of his tunic. Your hands were gentle, as soothing as they could have been across broken skin, but yet all three of them eased at once.
“It feels nice and cool.”
“It should do, it is meant to help heal the skin. Just do not cover it.”
They nodded tiredly, resting back onto cushions and think blankets just to ease the pain. Aemon had fanned himself in the corner, scrunching his nose when you made a swipe to dot some of the ointment onto the redness there.
Aerion once more insisted he did not need it, laying back into the armchair with his chin tilted high.
“Suit yourself. Come later and you will wish you had..”
He passed you by with a hmph, a small sound, and not a dismissing one, but one that a young man’s pride would not let him lower himself to defeat. Though, he would make up for that later.
The final opponent was one you had saved specially for last. Your husband. He lay out on the bed, fanned by the faint, cool breeze, and opening of his linen shirt.
“If you are to put that on me, I will throw it form the window.”
“Now husband.. I believe you want this to heal do you not?” You smirked, clambering up onto the bed beside him, kneeing just where his legs spread out.
You fought the want to laugh. He had been bunt nearly everywhere, his face a beat red, his neck and chest sore to the touch, even his legs and lower waist through the thin of his doublet. The children watched on in silence, but amused all the while, at the sight of their own father attempting to fend you, their mother off of him.
“I will be gentle..” You dipped your fingers back into the pot, feeling the many eyes burning into the back of your head, no matter how tired.
“Mhm.” Maekar managed out, his eyes screwed shut with his head placed delicately onto the pillow. You’d opened his shirt a little way, just to spread some on, across his collarbones and down to his chest, then to his arms and back up to his cheeks. He winced at nearly every application, though he’d deny it.
“There.. all done. Almost a new man, my Prince.” Your lips placed to his nose carefully, pulling away just before he could tug you back down, groaning as you rolled into his side with a sharp sting. And once more, even through the pain, and the hushed giggled across the room, he did not move either of you, enclosing an arm around you tenderly.
---
Rhae stayed sleeping in your arms as you scooped her to your chest, standing at the open balcony, looking out into the dusk sky. Shades of orange and gold had spurned themselves into violets and blues over the distant horizon. Every tree and flower from the garden had been silhouetted, lit only by the few lamps that passed the place.
And for a time, it was still.
In such a large chamber, and the inability to move near enough at all, every one had fallen asleep in yours and Maekar’s. Daeron strewn out across the armchair, Aemon and Aerion in the others, with sly dottings of ointment on his chest, Daella on one end of the daybed and Aegon on the other. You too had fallen asleep on one of the benches after laying with Maekar, soothing your youngest to sleep where it was too uncomfortable. Where she only found the comfort in your arms.
“Are you going to stay up all night, or are you coming to bed?”
You smiled at the gruff voice calling out through the dark. Fingers balled in a fist at the curve of your neck, soft snores rumbling into your chest as you turned, the moonlight casting shadows across your face.
Maekar took in the sight for a moment, propped up into his elbows with sleep still thick in his eyes, but he still felt it, the familiar skip of his heart. He had seen you hold every one of them like that, and now even in the moment, all of you exhausted, boiling hot and nearly cooked from the Dornish sun, the lines of his face eased, pulling into a small smile.
“If I can get this one to lay down, then yes..”
“Come, bring her here…” His arm raised through the dark, beckoning you forwards. You had barely made it the few paces across the stone floor to the bed before he took her in his arms, her small body fussing with a little wince before settling. The familiar comfort between yours and Maekar’s arms where she had laid many a restless night.
And somehow that way, all of you had fallen to sleep quicker than you’d imagined, combing your hand through Rhae’s hair as an arm spread around you both. Though one thing was for certain, perhaps you would opt for a day of shade on the morrow.
