Week 6 - The End
We've come to the end of the class. This week we engaged search engines for academic purposes. Of all the search engines presented, I think Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic are the two best for my needs academically, at this time.
Personally, my birthday approaches, and it makes me very depressed given where I physically stand. Please God let next year bring my wife and I together. I don't know how much more I can take.

Week 5 - Almost Done
This week I get to play in Photoshop! This one is a bit review for me, as I have a long history with this program. So, since I HAVE decided to start a podcast very soon, I will use the opportunity to create the few logo-ish items I will used for my podcast.
While I don't think these will be the channel logo, I think I will use these as the screen images when discussion certain topics. Not sure; still a work in progress.
On a different note, watched Idiocracy the other day. That dumb 500 years from now, I think Mike Judge is too optimistic - we will hit that level in 150 years TOPS! South Park Post-COVID was a damn blast! I loved how the kept concealing Kenny's face and voice. Pure brilliance.
This week I read the 2018 High Ed edition and one of my group members for the rest of the course ghosted; I hope everything is ok.

Week 4

In this podcast I ramble about movies and such. This week's readings were over 2019 Higher Ed Technology, and I must admit it was fun to read it thinking the authors were so blissfully unaware of what 2020 would gift to us ... with No. F*cking. RECIEPT!!!
Seriously, the readings were all very good, and chatting with my group was terrific fun. Continuing building the Titanic, and should be celebrating my success with the proposal defense with Ghostbusters: Afterlife tomorrow.

Week 3 and all is ... well?

As for the readings, I noticed there was a lot being said between the lines on tech. implementation in the 2017 report: mainly that the rest of the world (excepting Britain) is making great strides in doing innovative and creative things at the occasionally drag a U.S. higher education institution along for the ride.
That's kind of depressing, but not a huge surprise. Still a low turnout on this blog; I would encourage everyone to comment more but if you are reading this you probably WILL comment, even if only to screw with me!
Personally, I defend my dissertation proposal on Thursday; serious nerves involved here. On a more personal note, the Lego Titanic arrived today so that will be 9090 pieces of construction fun for a while.

Another Week Down
Well, another week bites the dust. It will be interesting to see what next week brings, as everyone (including me) seems to be super busy!

Loved the quiz! need to slow down and pay attention! Damn competitive nature! I am interested in seeing where this technological learning will end up. As you know my fiancé is a 5th grade math teacher and has had both positives and negatives to the whole remote learning world. On one hand you are able to have a way for more to interact with the teacher and feel a better one on one connection but on the other hand it also makes for a better way to loose students as the only way to hold them accountable for there actions is truly there grades. You do not have a way to keep them engaged and paying attention that you do in a physical class room. This may just be a growing pain and the harshness of finally having to pay the consequences for you lack of motivation may mean something again.

On to Unit Two - the readings this week were MUCH more specific, this time (for me at least) it was the Significant Challenges Impeding Technology Adoption in Higher Education. First off, that's a mouthful. Secondly, the evaluate the issues as solvable challenges, difficult challenges, and wicked challenges. Wicked ... seriously? WTF is this the mid-80's on the East Coast? I feel like Bill and Ted are the editors of this paper!
Now, getting into the data itself, the solvable ones are digital literacy and formal and informal learning - all issues common in colleges today. The difficult issues are the achievement gap and advancing digital equity, both issues brought to the fore during the pandemic. The *ahem* wicked challenges are managing knowledge obsolescence and rethinking the role of educators.
Now the first four issues are being actively pursued and dealt with in education, the latter two are much more interesting. Discussing equipment and software going obsolete and tenue vs. adjunct educators and the importance of research over student engagement are issues which universities seem unwilling to engage with. I am truly eager to hear the opinions of my classmates, who are more education field oriented than I am.
On a more personal note, I have a MASSIVE (9,090 piece) Lego Titanic on order and it can't arrive fast enough. There are two crowd-funded sets I might invest in, and the rumor mill claims the 2022 building set is a hotel and art museum! I am truly missing my wife and hoping we will be able to be together soon. Today is our amazing dog Lucky's 1st birthday.

An Interesting Experience
Well, Unit One has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Trying to figure out due dates and the mechanics of getting a blog post up early enough for everyone to comment on before the deadline has been a real challenge. I think I screwed up by sending not only the blog link but the website link in the same email. Oops. I won't be doing that again. For the rest of the units and Final Project, I will only send out a direct link to this blog for comments.
Also, responding to questions, you can post to this blog by selecting the "submit a post" option above (2nd selection from the right). I post this here as a guide as there was issues with this brought to my attention.
Overall this first week/unit was a uniquely difficult experience, but I survived, as usual. I move forward into Unit Two beginning tomorrow with a hopeful step that things will work themselves into a comfortable routine.
