Promises
My extremely late, extremely short, and, most important, extremely mediocre submission to SidLink Week 2017
“This wasn’t supposed to happen.” Link’s small voice cut through the previously comfortable silence he and Sidon were sharing. The hylian felt the other’s eyes move to look at him with a curious look in his eyes, but stared ahead nonetheless. “When we first started this, we made a promise that we wouldn’t fall in love.”
“I know...” Sidon replied at first before pausing for a brief moment. The two of them were never meant to become like this.
A heir to the Zora throne, and a knight set to walk the path the Goddess Hylia herself has set for him. What started, and should have remained, as a bond of friendship between the two has grown more vibrant and shifted into the feelings they both had for each other. They both made a promise that they would stick to their roles, that they’d only remain friends, that... That they’d never fall for each other. Yet here they are, sitting next to each other watching the beautiful sun as it sets slowly beyond the mountain in the far distance. Link, leaning his head softly again Sidon’s side, while Sidon has one arm wrapped around Link’s waist, holding him close.
“I apologize...” Sidon spoke once more while staring down at the blond locks of the other’s hair, Link still hasn’t turned to face him at all. “I suppose I broke the promise we made to each other.”
A soft hum escaped Link’s mouth. It was a slow couple of minutes before he spoke once more. “Thank you.”
Sidon’s eyes never left Link’s form, even during the silence. His head turning just slightly in confusion. “For what?”
After another few moments of silence, Link’s head slowly shifted and turned upward to look at Sidon. His eyes held a soft feeling of content as his mouth was turned to show off just the small hint of a smile. “For breaking your promise.”
