autism assessment is in about 1 month ARGH im nervous..... my first assessment was sort of. inconclusive? they didnt diagnose me out right they just said i had ""traits of asd"" (but still used the asd icd insurance/diagnosis codes. hmmmm....) and then didnt really elaborate any more after that ... so im hoping this time i will either 1. be diagnosed or at least 2. be told why i dont fit the diagnosis + what else could be causing my symptoms and traits which are definitely like. present

in a completely shocking (but not that shocking if you know my type) turn of events and act of developmental regression my brain has turned its attention to the almost-exactly-one-decade old movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and decided to fixated extremely hard and incredibly quickly on none other than sebastian stan as james buchanan "bucky" barnes! this is not too surprising to me because when i first watched CA:TWS as a young babe, only 13, i remember i found myself fascinated by the guy with the metal arm who was radiating lethal amounts of tboy swag. perhaps then he, like the larva of the tapeworm, burrowed deep into my brain, curling into an inert cyst to wait patiently until the time was right to spring forth again into my consciousness, like athena from the forehead of zeus. or maybe i forgot all about him til i saw a tweet about an "are they gay?" video about him and steve. who knows. either way i can't wait to start making shit up about him

i feel in this moment very much like a couple who just found out theyre pregnant and are still in the early most fragile weeks and so are reluctant to tell anyone about it should the unthinkable happen. anyways im into witch hat atelier now
what's up witches, as mentioned before i bought a second-hand copy of the "atelier of witch hat reproduction selection" artbook, which has a large variety of notes about the world and characters of witch hat. today i'll be sharing the few notes regarding some locations in the wha world.
1. the castle shown in chapter 1 where coco first becomes enamored with magic at the festival is called "Adan Castle". the lord of the castle governs the plains where coco's village is located. the castle is located at the base of a mountain to the east of karoon. on the map above, coco's village is pointed out at the bottom--the castle likely is near the mountains you see drawn around coco's village. it's unclear if "adan" is the name of an area, or a person's name.
2. the dada mountain range where coco took the 1st test wasn't originally so watery, but after the king used magic to raise the lands the holes became filled with muddy water and turned the area into a swamp.
3. shirahama notes specifically that the cliffs of rommaneau, where the 2nd test is located, are based off the landscape of the isle of skye in scotland.
locations have the least amount of notes in the artbook, so i decided to go with them first, but other categories have a lot more!
happy friday witches, today's lesson is about saving the best for last.
while best boi didn't really get any character notes in the repro-select (*sob*), his atelier did get some really interesting notes!

orugioâs atelier was made from a magic testing chimney, like the bigger one you can see on qifrey's side
shirahama writes orugioâs atelier as being warm, likely due to his mastery of heat magic (it sounds so comfy)
because it's so cozy, fudemushi has actually sneaked in there before chapter 9 (where coco first sees the atelier while searching for it), so orugio may have met with fudemushi before as well
the little loft-style half 2nd floor is the work area for detailed work like drawing magic glyphs. itâs comfortable and everything is within reach. a little bit of it is shown in the special chapter ft. orugio, and seems to be a circular desk around the top of that little loft thingy
he also has a shit ton of pillows up there judging by the literal nest of them he's shown lounging in during the special chapter
that little hammock is not orugio's bed, but is meant for napping since moving downstairs to where his real bed is was annoying. he lives most of the time in the upper area (tsk tsk, poor work-life balance). in other words it's not his bed but it also is his bed
1st floor is a production area where he does things like cut wood, breaks rocks, or bakes bricks. this is the area where coco discovered the light-up tiles and established her inner orugio stan
1st floor has a brick oven, in the center of the little loft, that acts as a kiln for clay. itâs controlled by magic and also creates the heated floors for the work area on the loft above (heated flooring! a true sign of orugio being born in a northern country lol)
in conclusion orugio likes being warm and comfy
and with that we conclude all the notes for the reproduction selection. i hope there's another book made with more fun tidbits in the future, as expensive as the book is.

qifreyâs atelier
the kidsâ rooms are on the 2nd floor, though considering that we see coco and agott's actual bedroom is below their work area it's unclear if that lower part is still on the 2nd floor
qifreyâs room is on the 1st floor, though where exactly is very vague
the big chimney-like part next to the entrance is a place for witches to test out magic, the chimney construction is to let smoke escape
kitchen is the half-basement area across the chimney and next to the living room, you can see this area and its layout more clearly in the manga and spinoff
qifreyâs atelier doesnât have a classroom, and so students donât sit at desks together to learn. Instead everyone finds a place theyâre comfortable in and learns individually. as a result, the atelier is full of places that you can relax in.
coco
coco is the only other character to have a written numerical height. her approximate height is 138.9cm (~4â 7â)
was originally envisioned as being 14 years old, but as noted in the volume 9 twitter space shirahama now considers the girls to be between 12-14, or even younger than that range
when coco was sighing at the window in chapter 8, the little bowl you can see on the right was noted to be full of snacks prepared by qifrey. she ate the whole thing in one go at the start
in the original concept notes for coco, she's written as being the type that has no confidence in herself. she envies the talent that others have, but doesn't go out to seek attention to herself. she doesnât know the way to improve herself, and stops at admiring magic and liking it. she thinks âwow how niceâ and âi want to be like thatâ but never goes âiâll go and do it!â.
i suppose coco can be seen as a person who really admires artists and would love to become one herself, but at the same time holds herself back because of her confidence issues and presumptions about the need for "innate talent".
tetia
itâs easy for shirahama to think of tetiaâs lines
her poses are similar to idol poses. an "idol" in japanese refers to pop stars, usually young girls, who generally have well-developed personas/aesthetics and lots of choreographed dances
shirahama has her express herself and react through her whole body, similar to exaggerated motions in dance or theater
original notes: honest, positive, and doesnât know what itâs like to be in a slump. an active person who can enjoy anything. improves quickly and can easily make others feel inferior but is unaware of that herself.
tetia's probably the wholesome and popular artist on social media that everybody loves. the high quality of her work can intimidate noobie artists especially when she makes it seem so easy. probably has her own insecurities and darkness behind what she shows
riche
original notes: quiet and introverted. is happiest being able to use her own magic in her own little world. has no interest in othersâ work. since she doesnât try to take anything in, she canât draw anything that she canât come up with. is picky about paper.
riche is the artist who's so far managed to develop a very unique style and take on the subjects she draws, but ultimately hits a wall as her isolationism kills the avenues needed for her to continue to grow. but after the 2nd trial riche's def made progress in that as we can see in the main series :)
agatto/agott/agathe/etc.
shirahama notes that agatto's hair is difficult to draw due to the amount of detail needed to flesh out the ends of her hair
original notes: a hardworking, stoic person with a high level of consciousness/sense. strict with both other people and herself. feels impatient with her still green self. looks down on others to maintain her own confidence.
agatto's probably like the elitist artist who went to art school but feels intimidated when she sees people who are super talented at art without having an art degree. hopefully she can find more, healthier foundations to build her confidence upon and accept herself and her wonderful talent as is
happy friday witches, we're finally getting to the juicy lore bits from the repro-select: characters!
we'll start off with everybody's favorite white-haired-anime-boi qifrey
qifrey and coco are the only characters that actually have a numerical height written out. qifrey's approximate height is 179.2cm (~5â 10â). while this may not seem that big, he's considered tall from a japanese perspective.
shirahama notes that qifrey has chronic stiff shoulders, with one reason being the weight of his cloak. his neck also hurts all the time as well, as is the fate of those with a lot of deskwork. i can only imagine how bad orugio's neck and shoulders are in comparison...
qifrey sculpts with water both as a hobby and as his work style. When he doesnât have a lot of time or leeway the water doesnât really take on any shapes.
qifreyâs glasses are attached to his face using a paste made from the petals of a plant called a âglue flowerâ. itâs safe for the human body so itâs widely used. quite practical esp. when you consider that he'd be flying around as well. i assume it's like the sticky substance on things like band-aids.
The strips on qifreyâs shirt (neck and the thighs) are made of a soft leather. qifrey plaits the strips on his neck each morning routinely, by the time he finishes heâs finally woken up.
also, while he comes off as prim and proper qifrey's actually quite rough/careless as he's noted to wear a black shirt because his clothes get dirty very quickly from magic ink
shirahama pointed out very specifically in this panel of chapter 13 that qifrey has a habit of not finishing climbing up a staircase (i.e. skipping the last few steps). he has a tendency to take shortcuts, though it's unclear whether she means this as literal shortcuts or in a more general sense.
many elements in the wha universe have some sort of symbolic meaning. for qifrey, the pendant on his cloak has a light motif and a tassel, which shirahama says denotes it as an amulet/protective charm
fun fact: qifrey was originally concepted as a much older dude. (he actually looks even younger in the above sketch than the very original sketches in the repro-select) shirahama's original notes wrote his character as a teacher with bad posture and bad eyes, who was a famous witch who withdrew from the frontlines due to his eyes and lower back pain. personally i feel like shirahama hitting him with the de-aging beam helped prevent him from looking like orugio's sugar daddy (now they're on equal standing as househusband and malewife)
happy friday the 13th witches! today's lore talks about general art and design-related tidbits from the wha world.
Due to the importance of magic in this world, circles are a common motif used in design, especially for magic items (obviously due to the circle that encloses the glyphs).
this is a bit of a funny detail, but many witches like columnar or cone-like buildings (like the little entrance building to the assembly). i would guess it's due to the resemblance to witch hats.
brimhats tend to have more organic materials and designs for their hats, as you can see above. tongari witch hats in contrast have more abstract and geometric designs.
eyes are a prominent design feature in witch society, likely due to the importance placed on sight for drawing magic. in the image above, the drawers to the right of coco have an eye motif at the top.
after graduating, witches will be able to design their own hat. we often see them based on the hats they wore as students, i.e. their masters' design, as seen with both qifrey's and orugio's. qifrey is noted for having gone with a simple design for his witch hat.
students will usually dress the same as their teacher (e.g. euinie and jujy), though they can also wear a similar design but in a different color (e.g. qifrey's students).
there are a few rules for hat designs, mainly that it can't hide the face or have a brim. tetiaâs double-cone hat concept, seen in chapter 14, is within the regulations of witch hat designs. though not common nowadays, there's been witches in the past who've favored similarly eccentric designs.
the medical symbol used nowadays (by non-witches) originally came from the symbol witch doctors used. after healing magic was banned, the outer circle was removed and became used by healers, but they donât know the history behind the symbol.
i have many regrets in life. im only 22 but its true i do have regrets. one of them is the fact that i perhaps burnt out my creative story juices as soon as i started writing and i burnt them out on a 72k davekat fanfiction
ive developed a troubling new habit where i call everyone and anyone (especially men) women and girls because i think its funny and endearing. girl is just such a soft word.... the same with she/her pronouns. i dont really hc that many characters as girls but if you see me calling them girls and calling them she well. you know what i mean
in a very interesting place psychologically where i seem to be somewhere in between fixations but also able to move somewhat fluidly between the two or three that i briefly had a few months ago
