Her Devotion
She looked at him in a way he never thought a person could be loved.
Not with the hurried affection of passing seasons.
Not with the fragile kind of love that asks to be convinced.
But with complete devotion.
The sort of love that settles quietly into your bones and says,
Iāve chosen you.
And chooses you again the next morning.
And the morning after that.
She adored his laugh.
Not because it was beautiful to anyone elseā
but because it belonged to him.
Because every time it escaped him, she felt something inside herself soften.
She loved the crinkles beside his eyes.
The way he laughed with his whole body.
The way, without meaning to, his joy always became hers.
Until their laughter tangled together so completely that neither remembered who had started first.
Two people.
One happiness.
He made her feel safe.
Not in the way castles make you safe.
But in the way home does.
In the way rain sounds against the windows when youāre wrapped beneath blankets.
In the way tired hands instinctively reach for one another in the dark.
In the way silence becomes peaceful when shared with the right person.
And perhaps that was her favorite thing about him
he never asked her to become smaller.
He simply made room for all that she was.
So she loved him fiercely.
In the thousand tiny ways no one else noticed.
The hand she always rested on his chest.
The kisses pressed against his cheek while he was distracted.
The way she smiled before he even finished his stories because she already knew the ending and loved hearing him tell them anyway.
The way she still reached for him in crowded rooms.
As if some part of her soul panicked at the thought of not touching him for too long.
And God
his smile.
How many times had she become lost there?
How many times had she looked at him and thought,
How lucky am I to exist at the same time as you?
Because that was the truth of it.
She never stopped being grateful.
Never stopped marveling at the ordinary miracle of him.
And he
the man who once believed love was something that had to be earned
found himself undone by the gentleness of a woman who loved him as naturally as breathing.
Until one day he realized something terrifying and wonderful:
he no longer remembered where he ended and she began.
There was only this.
Her laughter answering his.
Her fingers intertwined with his.
Their foreheads pressed together after a kiss neither wanted to end.
Their small touches.
Their quiet rituals.
Their beautiful, ordinary life.
And somewhere between all the ordinary moments
the grocery store kisses,
the sleepy good mornings,
the whispered I love youās no one else would ever hearā
they became what everyone spends a lifetime searching for.
Not perfection.
Not passion alone.
But the rare and sacred comfort of being completely knownā
and loved still.
And when she looked at him,
even after all this time,
she still looked at him
like he was the gentlest thing God had ever placed in her hands.
