Assessment 2, final work, 4 hand cut collages, paint, foil wrapping DESIRED, TO DESIRE, DESIRE, FROM DESIRE
Experimenting with more packaging from an online fashion company that send out your purchases wrapped in a gold foil pouch. Using this as a background I placed colour swatches and cuttings of feminine florals on top to layer some of the triggers for human desire and wanting drawing on luxury consumerism as inspiration.
Carlo Scarpa door. The golden, like the gold on packaging. Gives hierarchy luxury importance. To want and desire. To give a sacred expensive out of reach desire.
Experiment with a plastic packaging bag from luxury goods fashion retailer Prada. As soon it is placed over a simple drawing/portrait different feelings are drawn out. Of desire. Of branding. Of waiting.
Bill Henson photograph @sydneycontemporary creates images of desire for love sex and youth. For freedom. The use of dark colours, shadows of mystery, a air of elegance like the packaging of luxury goods entices us to crave and want
Researching the work of artist Eric Baudart, the pieces above bring fourth my own feelings of what desire means personally to me. The layers and layers of gold highlighting consumerism and the desire for luxury. The pretty light reflective dazzling packaging of a simple chocolate to an expensive fancy car. All the material desires we aspire to, the false hope, the fake promise of internal satisfaction, the distraction of it all, the wanting, the desire. But you can met layer upon layer of external goals and desires and never find what you are after. Re igniting my poster theme DESIRE: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Other works show the colourful packing of material desires, wants and perceived needs, in a sunbed, highlighting the falseness, the external image, the controlled image. Desire, wanting what we can't have. And the third work, reflection, high gloss, false perceptions all highlighted and exaggerated. I would like to use gold and the idea of pretty packaging towards my final work to show the facets of human desire and wanting.

Poster project lettering, I decided to use cut out lettering in only the sensual tones of black and white as well as pink, red and tan. In the style of a letter of demand as the text taunts and challenges and asks you to try and catch, control or explain DESIRE #cofa1002
ARTIST STATEMENT
Desire as a human motivator fascinates me, especially in the field of love and attachment to another human. Something that science can’t explain or prove is the biggest motivating force in the universe. I am passionate about love in all its forms and what it means to each and every one of us individually. That strong feeling of wanting someone else that you never knew existed before. Of needing them or wishing for them to stay in your life. To crave and set your heart on somebody. Where it becomes a thirst, something to die or be desperate for. Someone who before they walked into your life you were doing just fine. But that feeling you get that is such a high a rush and you don’t want to give it up when you find or experience it. And the pain that comes with it if it is taken away from you. That’s the desire I wanted to investigate in my research. The human motivation of desire in feelings of love. And my research into the work of Babara Kruger whose artworks are like a poster with a black and white image and strong simple text with ironic messages, a lot feminist and exploring love and human emotion also, as well as desire. I decided for the base of my poster to use a photocopier machine to make self portraits, making numerous versions, copy after copy, replicating the numerous desires and relationships we experience over time, and it becomes like a copy of a copy of a copy. A practiced emotional response, what as humans we do to achieve what we want, what we desire, the sexual interactions, the physicality of love, to get to the love we crave. Using a single red lipstick to further enhance the aspect of desire, the female allure, the lips, using provocative poses, and the temptations of desire, hair, skin, lips, teeth, breath, smell, pleasure versus pain, and finally the message over the top, very simply shows the circle of life, the wants versus the needs, the end point that we seek, the elusive, the moving of the goal posts once we reach the end. So desire creates motivation and once gone we need to set another goal. DESIRE, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN #cofa1002
