when susan sontag wrote “I must change my life so that I can live it, not wait for it”
Trust in the universe, the redirections and perceived setbacks. Everything is always working out in your favor!
one thing i need to start living by is “become the thing that you want” if i want friends who throw themed parties maybe i should start throwing those parties. if i want someone who writes me love letters maybe i should start writing letters for the people i love. if i want to hang out at museums and pretty cafes maybe i should invite my friends to these places. and maybe even then i won’t find the kind of people i want to be around. but then i would have become the exact person i want to be around. and maybe that’s good enough.
im going to make today beautiful and it's going to take some effort but i'll do it for myself and it'll be worth it i ll go out walking and i ll i'll ask for help when i feel stuck and i'll reach out for the people i care about and i'll eat something i love and i'll look at the sky and feel grateful and i'll close my eyes and feel the sun on my skin and it will all take a lot of effort but i deserve it
the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.
You've gotta learn to stop forcing things: conversations, connections, attention, or affection. If it has to be forced, it isn't meant for you. Being ok with losing people who are ok with losing you, is such an underrated power move. It flows or it goes.
Push yourself to do the things that might take some extra time and discipline, but will help you grow in the long run. Journaling, cooking homemade meals, working out, stepping out of your comfort zone, confronting issues, completing tedious tasks. Self care isn’t always about providing comfort for yourself, it’s about doing the things you might not want to in the moment for the wellbeing of your future self.

“You don’t find your worth in someone. You find your worth within yourself and then find someone who’s worthy of you. Remember that.”
