i have an ask in my inbox asking why i’m not using a native american actor and:
at the time i made this, i couldn’t find any icons of native american actors and so i decided to make his parentage middle eastern and use rami. though with this change from the skinwalker i might just take out him being native american and just middle eastern.

amelia, that girl she’d met the other week –– how she’d seemed to know more about josephine than she should’ve, or could’ve, even if they’d met once before, and they hadn’t. that look in her eyes and how, for a moment, it was almost familiar and –– no, that can’t be right. she is reading too far into things now, and it would do her some good to stop and simply listen instead. a hand strays into his hair, thumb smoothing along his cheek. “i’m sorry.” she is, genuinely. there’s a pause, and she doesn’t know if shilah wants to talk about it more or not, if she should try. “–– she would’ve fit right in, huh? probably had roman wrapped around her finger.”

the credits are little more than background noise at this point, like the last half hour of the film had been. she couldn’t tell you what the ending was if she tried, and really, she doesn’t think shilah could, either. still, she stays quiet, keeps still even when her leg starts to go all pins and needles, like she’s afraid he’s going to get up if she so much as moves and the night will be over, spoiled.
“huh?” she pretends not to have heard him, though she has, perfectly so. “oh, i don’t know. about what to make for dinner tomorrow, i guess. it’s my turn.”
he knows that’s not the truth, but he debates if he wants to press her on it anymore. maybe they were both just feeling heavy tonight; it happened, every now and then. with both of their lives being how they were. “ i was thinking of amelia. “ he says, after a few more quiet moments. “ how she would like to watch movies like this. “

he’s not convincing, or else she’s just looking for things to find fault with. she sighs, smooths away the displeased wrinkle between her brows, and relaxes back again. “okay, okay.”
he closes his eyes and listens to the credits keep rolling, long. there’s a memory in the back of his mind, before dvds, before digital things, when the vhs would turn itself off and rewind itself depending on the kind of vhs player you had. it made him wonder about the future, and what would be there.

“uh-huh.” maybe she’s being too suspicious, but there’s that persistent voice in the back of her head saying that no, maybe she isn’t. “i should up the price to a dollar, then. maybe that’d tempt you.”
that makes him smile. nudging her legs down, and putting his head in her lap, he looks up at her. “ i promise, jo. “

“hey ––” the credits for their latest movie are rolling, and she can see that distant look in his eyes, like he’s not really paying attention at all and hasn’t been for some time now. she nudges his thigh with her foot, watching him close, head tilted. “–– penny for your thoughts?”
he rolls his head to look at her, but quickly looks away, shrugging. “ i don’t really know. “ he says, honest. “ just zoned out. “

kind of big. anyway, i made this blog i think? back in 2013? and i would like to say i’ve learned a lot since then, and part of the reason i haven’t been on here as much a my other blogs is because i’ve been thinking about what i want to do with shilah in the sense of this:
the more research i do on the Navajo people, the more i think that using a skinwalker wouldn’t be something that was right. i would still like him to have a native american/middle eastern background (his mother being Navajo and his father being middle eastern) but i’m not going to take the skinwalker legends and use them for him. he will simply be a shapeshifter, confined to only animals. my about and everything won’t reflect this yet but i’ll get working on it. if you have any questions, let me know!
