show in the finale how Roy and Jamie matured and have them have a calm honest conversation with each other about Keeley and then with Keeley, to find closure, so that they can move on to one of the three options above

or even just having Roy x Keeley with Jamie as best friend or Jamie x Keeley with Roy as best friend would have been a subversion to how it usually plays out.

let Roy and Jamie regress and say sexist shit and fight and be disgustingly condescending towards Keeley because MeN aRe DuMb LuLz! (EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Keeley choosing herself, but it would have been neat to get her thoughts on this instead of it being a reaction to MEN ARE DUMB™️)

After careful consideration and a lot of angry tags, I think I have pinpointed for me where Ted Lasso, especially season three, fails to succeed all the way at the themes it explores.

The narrative uses the deconstruction of toxic masculinity to paint their characters as being stronger for having let go of their preconceived notions of acceptable behavior - but the narrative also never lets their characters be weak or fragile without having toxic masculinity to blame. And there are a lot of situations in this show where you would expect someone to go ‘hey man, are you okay? Are you doing alright? because that was a shit thing that happened. it’s okay if you’re not okay.’

And it never does.

#god yes all of this #the saddest part for me is that now I can’t look at tl stuff anymore #without feeling sad and angry about how they eventually missed the mark #by not showing so many things that would have mattered and been important #I was at Wembley this week and almost cried in the locker room #because when the show did things right it did them so so perfectly right #but that can’t change how hollowed out I feel about so many other things😔

Sooo, been off for a while again, since …

I thought I made peace with the finale, but it (= the like fuckin' five percent I hated, that were sadly the five percent I cared about the most) still upsets me so much that I basically can't stomach going into the tags or just seeing something vaguely ted lasso related on my dashboard without either raging or bursting into tears, so that I avoid going to tumblr altogether (except for occasionally checking the good omens tag / neil gaiman's blog or looking fondly at radskier gifs lol – thank you fandoms that haven't broken my heart yet – which is like the only reason I haven't deactivated my tumblr) and now tomorrow starts my long planned and anticipated week long trip to London, where I booked a hotel close to Richmond for ✨reasons✨, and that I was so, so looking forward to until May 31st and I'm now like "meh, I'm missing the barbenheimer double feature at my local cinema for WHAT NOW?" 😐 (Honestly, if I wouldn't be going with my mum, I would have canceled the trip …)

But I still be going to some locations (and the Kiss the Hippo coffee shop thing that Phil loves so much), since it would be a wasted opportunity, when I'm in walking distance (by German standards, which is like 45 minutes lol) and have a Wembley Stadium tour booked, so I'll either be completely done with Ted Lasso when I come back OR I'll be back in full capacity by next week LOL
