A Big Ted Lasso Request

We have had absolutely spectacular response to the Ted Lasso Big Bag 2026 and have 14 incredible fics that are coming your way around the Season 4 premier as a great celebration

However

I am currently struggling with artists for the exchange and am roughly 5 pieces of art short of matching everyone up. Therefore I am here and begging. If anyone would be interested in being involved please reach out whether it's an ask or a message or filling out the form. We have a massive variety of fics and any creative pursuit apart from writing counts for the art requirements!

It is a wonderfully supportive group of writers and artists already and I would love for this to be just as successful as last year.

chapter 4 of a multichapter fic, heavy content warning for rape/sexual assault/abuse, gen (no ships but some incidental canon-typical roy/keeley)

Jamie gets a new agent after coming back to Richmond and it goes downhill from there, as he inadvertently walks right into the office of an experienced serial predator.

“What’s wrong with you?” Rude.  “What’s wrong with— Nothing, what’s wrong with you?” The realization of what, exactly, he’s meant to be doing arrives just then, and Jamie turns back to his car. He’d been leaving Nelson Road. Why had he gotten back out of the car in the first place? Stupid.  No more commentary comes from Roy. Jamie pauses with his car door half opened. He’d been braced for ridicule and then there hadn’t been any and that’s just weird. Frankly, it makes Jamie nervous. Compulsively, he glances over his shoulder, lip curling and ready to respond if Roy has some shit to say about it.  Roy has nothing to say. He’s standing by his own vehicle, watching Jamie with that same not-the-same frown, silent.

Yay thank you my love! So at the moment my time is consumed with the big bangs and particularly my Ted Lasso Big Bang.

Last year I loved doing the bang and loved running it but did feel like I was cheating a bit as Dutch Sky Blue was already part done and all planned. This year I have decided to go big or go home and bust out the Season 4 AU. It's going to be about 50 chapters, about 250k and might kill me but we ball.

It is very much work in progress with different chapters at different stages but it is progressing.

Here's a little snippet:

"When I was seven I was friends with a guy called Tommy Helver. He was a dork with these massive thick rimmed glasses and a backpack that was a horrible lime green. Now I wasn't the coolest kid, if you can believe that …" "… I can believe that," Lucy muttered. "Well that was unnecessary but also probably true. Anyway Tommy was a nice kid when you got to know him but he wasn't good at keeping and making friends. We had a little gaggle but as we moved up through the school the gaggle thinned. Soon it was me and Tommy. Until one Wednesday, he got rid of the lime green backpack and replaced it with a messenger bag with loads of pins on," Ted continued. He did have a point he just had to get there. "People started teasing him about the pins and I did absolutely nothing. I should have said something, and then when he called me out on that I yelled at him. I turned every nasty little thought that I had heard on him like he was one of those adorable strawberry shaped pin cushions that everyone's grandma seems to have. I regretted the words as soon as they were out of my mouth but I couldn't apologise." "Why not?" Lucy whispered. Ted itched at his jaw and managed to hide a smug smile; he had her hook line and sinker. "Because that would mean losing face and your pride is the most important thing to a teenager. It might also be the most important thing to someone in this room too," he shrugged. "Oh fuck off. That's not what this is about," Lucy snapped but the the heat had dialed down from ghost pepper to cayenne pepper which was progress. "Ok then tell me because I am speculating about ghosts, wait no, speculating about spectres here on this," Ted opened his arms. "It might be a little that … pride you know," Lucy sighed, blinking away tears. "I need to win games." "Lucy it's not …" "If the words, it's not about winning come out of your mouth I will rip your tongue out and strangle you with it," she growled. "Noted," Ted whispered, his hands moving to a position of surrender.

Ok throwing this into the void. But based on what I've seen announced about S4 the only way I will accept Ted Lasso manages a 2nd tier women's team is if it actually has Ted struggling with the realities of managing a 2nd tier women's team

So here's my pitch

Ted comes back because he is miserable in Kansas and Rebecca comes to him with a proposition. The women's team is floundering, it's just not going anywhere, so funding is lacking, and they need a spark. He gets his ego played and comes back to "advise". But he arrives and the current head coach (we'll call her L as I cba coming up with a name) is royally pissed. Ted is adamant that he is not replacing her, he's only here to help. L's main problem, Ted coming in actually does help because suddenly the media care. Now they are getting sponsorship deals, now they are getting people coming to the matches, now they are getting local investment.

However Ted is at a loss because when he came into the men's team they were a good team that lacked direction. This team don't have that; they get on (some of them are even fucking each other), they have good tactics. This team is just what it is ... a 2nd tier team. Majority of the team are part time, including L who is a men's team physio as her main job, as Rebecca can't funnel that much money in without returns. They are training basically in a field and playing on a pitch with one stand that is a storm away from collapse. And some of the players just aren't good enough but they don't have the calibre to get loans or the money to get better players.

I want to see Ted have to fight for his team. I want to see Ted in the media campaigning for more investment into women's football. I want to see Ted have to tell a player they aren't renewing her contract. I want to see Ted run into one of his players working in JD Sports when he goes to get Henry some new boots. I want to see Ted walking the training pitch with L before a session filling in rabbit holes. I want to see Ted's anger that more women footballers get injured because all the research on sports injuries is about men. I want to see Ted stepping back and realising that as a coach he needs to rely on those that have the insight, and know the game.

I want to see Ted realising that he doesn't have all the answers but he is going to keep fighting anyway because these girls deserve better

I also want to see L going to Roy and Beard for advice on how to deal with Ted and moaning about him. I want Roy sighing and going "yeah ... he is all those things but he also gets it done" (I also want every time L talks to Roy there to be the lads doing increasingly insane things in the background 😂)

A player having to decide whether to keep a baby and give up her career if she does

Lesbian partners being shamelessly sexualised by the fans

The fans of the men's team not giving a shit about the women. Plus the constant bombardment of "yeah but its not real football is it?"

Ted coaching the team at a match in front of 5 people and a dog

Training only happening on an evening because people have jobs

Day 11 of posting Ted Lasso fanfic plots that I am not allowed to write until my big bang is done

At the World Cup, Jamie is doing an interview about the support he has and he talks about Richmond and Roy and Keeley and his mum. Then he gets asked who's there to support him. Which is a harder question, Roy had spent a few days at the England camp but needs to be home for Richmond stuff. Keeley and his mum cant leave work for long. His mum is still uncomfortable in football stadiums. Long story short, there isnt people there to support him. They're all in England.

Until there is a booming shout from the back of the crowd, "thats my boy. Scoring for England!"

Stood at the back with matching grins is Sam Obisanya and his dad Ola who's echoing voice it was.

Tldr - Basically Ola sees his son's dear friend having no one for him at his game and fixes to change that even if it means adding another son to the rotation

I'm loving the discussions about the role and purpose of fandom, as well and what activities are needed to keep fandoms alive and flourishing!

However... as a fandom creator (writer and artist), I sometimes feel like too much pressure is concentrated on creators. I don't know if this is a frustration others share? Not only should we keep making things, but somehow we also end up becoming these central fandom figures who can feel pressured into responding to comments (or else we're called arrogant or ungrateful), making friends (or else we're rude for ignoring well-meaning people who reach out), and being the drivers and pillars of that community (running events, responding to memes, etc. – and everything falls silent if we stop). It's a lot of work!! I don't always have the time and energy to make things for fun and then also engage in all the ways people might sometimes feel entitled to because they enjoy my works.

I really wish that more "non-creating" fans in the community would discover their fandom power!! and not just rely on the visible "producing" creators to be the only people worth engaging with. It takes nothing more than passion to write a meta-post about a character or a plot point, or to create an ask game, or to DM someone else who you see posting funny tags – not just the creator! Maybe your followers have other tips for evening out the balance a little more?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, anon. This is an observation I've seen in many parts of life, not just fandom.

A lot of people feel as though they need permission or an invitation of some sort in order to contribute. That's why I always end my answers by asking people to share their thoughts. I want to make it explicitly clear that I want people to add things into the reblogs (which I can then share out for more people to see) and the replies (which people can at least read even if I can't reblog).

I have heard fans who are readers but don't write fic say that they think they can't get an AO3 account unless they plan to post something. This is incorrect, of course, but a lot of people make that assumption.

I think at least some people (I don't know what kind of percentage) assume that someone who is writing fic or posting art or making podfics and video edits etc. has some sort of expertise that "allows" them to post.

People with less confidence or with less practice etc. sometimes need an extra nudge before they realize that they're welcome to contribute too. If that's the case for you, please allow me to say:

You are welcome to post in your fandom, even if no one invites you to. Even if you think you're not good enough. Even if your idea isn't "popular."

Start a conversation. Share a thought. Talk to folks who reblog cool shit. Be a folk who reblogs cool shit. You don't have to do everything in order to do something.
