The science pet, always come in handy.
Where’s that one post that’s like Reasons Why My Wife Cried This Week and when are we gonna get a fanfic of that but Ryland Grace.
Reasons my human has cried:
* New student, very small. Grace said it was pebble. Pebble is small Earth rock. Pebble likes name.
* He found out Eridians have no gender rules.
* Students brought him mineral sample. After he stopped crying he said he loves show-and-tell game. Human naming conventions oddly literal.
* I told him Earthsun grew bright.
* I took him up atop atmosphere bypass elevator to look at stars.
* He woke up from nap and found me still with him. I did not wait on his chest; he says I am heavy like “elephant” and he “couldn’t breathe.” I laid my arm over him instead, kept him close, feeling safe. He said “cuddle” was warm.
* Before class he heard younglings singing.
* He has plants in house from sprouts on ship. Plant grew “bud.”
* Engineers got seawater temperature right. He took off shoes and stood in water, sighing. He didn’t care about pants getting damp. Cried until shirt was also damp. Humans very endlessly wet.
* He missed “Doritos.”
* Adrian helped food scientists make taumoeba dried paste. Made it crunchy after heating. We fused it into triangle form. Told him it was Tauritos. That made him laugh-cry. Laugh-cry is rare and precious.
* He remembered Eridians have no gender rules.
* We made him celebration outfit. Used metals he calls pretty. He can see frequencies named “colorful” and “shiny.” These make humans happiest.
* I gave him hug when he wasn’t expecting it. Easier to hug close now with exosuit. Hug when Grace sitting down so he does not fall over.
* Told him to think long time, stay with me as long as he can.

So we're all gonna let the new Harry Potter show die on the vine, right? No hatewatching. No thinkpieces. No videos about how bad it is. Deprive it of oxygen and let it wither away unremarked-upon and unprofitable; make HBO lose their entire investment and prove to the corporate entertainment sphere that the entire IP is poison. And spend that time doing something that brings you joy instead.
been reading a lot of ursula k le guin lately and it's a devastating experience. like fuckkkkkk ursula girl stop you're making me believe in true love. ursula you're making me see the futility in hating the other. omg girl stop you're making me hate capitalism even more than i already do. wait girl you're fueling me with rage for the way sci-fi is looked down on for being genre fiction when these are some of the most impactful works i've ever read. ursula at this rate i'm gonna go walking in the moonlight overcome with the beauty of this one precious world in a wide and cold and lonely cosmos. like girl fuck you oh my godddddddddd

TLDR: Puerto Rico is NOT a part of the United States.
I see a lot of well meaning Americans saying things along the lines of "Um HELLO, Puerto Rico IS a part of the United States! They're Americans, too!" in the context of criticizing racism towards Puerto Rico e.g. Bad Bunny performing at the Superbowl. As a Boricua, I am here to tell you - PUERTO RICO IS NOT A PART OF THE UNITED STATES. This is a legal fact, not my personal opinion or cultural viewpoint.
As officially designated by the 1901 Insular Cases of the United States Supreme Court, Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" "belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States" (read: a colony - Puerto Rico is sadly but accurately dubbed The World's Oldest Colony)
People born in Puerto Rico do have US citizenship (which the US government only granted so that it could draft Puerto Ricans into the military) but are explicitly not afforded the full rights of the US Constitution. The US cherry picks what "rights" Puerto Ricans do and do not have while exploiting it as a tax haven and tourist playground. The most glaring and straightforward example - you cannot vote for the President of the US if you live in PR.
US Statehood is not a solution to any of this. That is another deeply misinformed liberal talking point. After over a century of abusing Puerto Ricans' human rights (forcibly sterilizing 1/3 of the women, using our land for bombing practice and causing insanely high cancer rates, massacring peaceful protestors, I could go on and on and on), full independence and sovereignty is the only acceptable resolution.
Yea, of course Bad Bunny can perform at the Superbowl. But because he is literally the planet's most listened to artist this year, NOT because Puerto Rico "is part of the United States." That is not true. Educated yourself. Que viva Puerto Rico libre.
I recommend War Against All Puerto Ricans by Nelson A. Denis for further reading.
I need to add to this (January 13, 2026):
The USA is remilitarizing Puerto Rico right now (and has been since Fall 2025) as it ramps up to terrorize Venezuela and the rest of the world, despite ongoing and growing protests.
Several military bases were recently reopened after Puerto Ricans shut them down with decades of intense protests. In the town I live in, the military planes flying to/from the bases fly so low, all day and night, that it's painfully loud even when you're inside. The first time it happened we thought it was an earthquake. The vibrations are so intense that they even wake up my deaf partner. Last night, I was woken up by one of these planes flying overhead at 4 AM. Sleep deprivation is literally a form of torture. This is becoming more and more frequent in recent weeks.
Kind of a side note, but many ecologically sensitive bats nest around my house. Thinking about how loud and painful these planes must be to their delicate ears is heartbreaking.
The United Nations has declared every year for many years that the USA is in fact holding Puerto Rico as an ILLEGAL COLONY. This only further highlights that there should be no US military presence in Puerto Rico.
Independencia y soberanía ya, and USA get the fuck out of Puerto Rico.
