Originally, this idea was only Raziel stalking easy prey. But as the canvas expanded and the city acquired more figures, it became a little more like an idea I had when I first-first started dipping my toes into painting environments, of Kain setting him a hunting challenge. It's been a long journey since that time.

Relistening to Network Effect again and I think there's a solid case to be made that Ratthi is in a queerplatonic relationship with Overse and Arada (who are in a romantic relationship with each other).
They have a very stable domestic dynamic between them - he helps them work through a disagreement before it can turn into a fight, he passes his leftovers to Arada without either of them having to communicate about it, and at one point is described as co-sleeping with Overse on a couch. (I actually missed both of those last two until recently because Murderbot only mentions them in passing, which suggests that they are a part of the normal patterns of behavior it had observed among them.)
Also there's the fact that the three of them are the only members of the original PresAux survey team to also go on the survey at the start of NE - which makes sense if there's a high level of emotional commitment between them that would make it hard for them to be apart for so many months at a time.
(I only have the audiobook so I can't pull quotes, but the food sharing is at timestamp 5:31:35 and cosleeping at 6:39:13 for anyone who's curious)

“Everything is thrifted: Kapital denim overall that's too big for me to wear as overalls, but work really well as denim chaps when cinched at the waist with my belt. The belt is made by myself. My jeans I found in a thrift shop with no name or tag attached – but clearly made with a lot of love. The top is a Kapital indigo dyed kimono jacket. The shoes are Onitsuka Tiger. I've been a preschool teacher for the last 5 years, and I take a lot of inspiration from the kids themselves and a little bit of Magic School Bus. I try to combine making fuctional wearable art with things that make the kids in my school smile and feel inspired to be a little weird and out there. What are yalls thoughts on if Murderbot should get new armor? It wishes it had some very often for practical reasons and for bot-body dysmorphia reasons... but thematically if it gets armor does that mean its regressing? Im sure it would be somewhat happy to fade into the background as a normal SecUnit, but it cant really go back. Might it even be a symbol of self harm to have armor for it? Even if having armor would be it at its most comfortable?
Maybe something new then, like what Three wore in PD. Not SecUnit armor but maybe unique to it
armor = great! it's really feeling less disposable and more like someone whose life matters and whose friends will be needlessly devastated if its death could have been prevented with armor
secunit armor = bad! ;_; secunit armor has logos. secunit armor robs it of options on who to be and how to approach situations and people. it's not even all that great, as we've been often told, and murderbot deserves way better
so yeah! armor that doesn't identify it as a secunit, like three's, would be great. i imagine it would want something that's light, easily transported when not being worn, and allows for the greatest range of motion. with a helmet, for extreme situations
soooo i'm probably just thinking that it and art would basically take the deflection fabric that art had researched for it prior to network effect, and figure out how it could be reinforced in the most vulnerable parts with either additional thickness/layers, or subtle flexible mail:plate armor embedded inside. idk but i have the impression that scale mail would give it the greatest flexibility (for movement AND for stowing in a knapsack) while benefitting from a material more resistant to piercing than even the deflection material
but yeah, even irl, fabric can be and has historically been a great protective material, so they can probably find a way to capitalize on that in ways that humans who would want/need more protection (and more generous crumple zones to shield from impacts) just... wouldn't expect or scan for at transit checkpoints! :)
