the whole fiasco with pearl's va spurred me to pull up a two minute clip and, regrettably, after a decade of not bothering to watch it, i have formed an opinion on steven universe

oh my god there's no way the dialogue was really paced like that the whole time. how did i not notice. it's like how video game dialogue progresses one text box at a time, each accompanied by a separately recorded voice line, automatically advancing on a timer that leaves a little too much space between lines, just enough that you can never really forget you're playing a video game, except a dialogue heavy game isn't split up into eleven minute episodes

listened a little more and actually i was being charitable? each individually recorded and decently acted voice line in a video game sounds pretty natural on its own, steven universe characters talk like the syllables will explode if they touch each other
