finally got around to listening to the new cshr album so i gotta yap abt it now
well its not technically "new" but tbh, i kinda really like it?? drunk drivers/killer whales is lwkey mid, but destroyed by hippie powers is actually fire, i might even prefer the new version to the older one. optimistic son is great too! same with ravenous house. all the songs sound genuinely pretty, even though i dont think theyll compare to my personal favourites of the band's works.
honestly i was a lil worried bcus of all this shit going on on tumblr about mr toledo turning religous and all, but really, i dont see it as much of a big deal. hes still a nice man, i feel like we're all scared bcus of what christianity has been becoming lately. i want to hope that will doesnt take the route the extremists of his religion have, tbh.
i found cshr at a very low point in my life and i think what drew me in was how raw the lyrics were, how messy the songs sounded. but honestly, i resonate a lot with the slightly more clean, optimistic sound of the newer albums, especially the scholars and all. ive grown up enough to appreciate music for what music is, and not want the band to stay the same. really, i love car seat headrest for the lyrics, for will's voice, for the guitar solos and stuff. prolly cause i listen to such a wide array of music, i didnt even notice how the newer albums sound "different".
since the scholars is "recent"-ish, i might add that songs like true/false lover, ccf, devereux and lady gay approximately were genuinely wonderful. i adored that album, and have listened to it on loop multiple times. i kinda wish car seat headrest released a few new songs, instead of rerecording an album that didn't exactly need fixing. personally, i wanna see them redo a couple songs of mbkimb, although im all for the concept of "dont fix unbroken things".
will's voice sounds a little different, honestly, but still carries that same edge that i found really soothing to listen to ever since i found this band.
my favourite album will still be monomania, but honestly, im glad will is still making music. i hope he'll be okay, and that the band continues to create the way they do. sure, i might miss the edgy tone of their older songs, but honestly, for me, cshr will always be cshr.
ignore how messy this is. i wanted to dump out the thoughts in my head. might come back and edit this later in case i get a new idea.
