ep 11 two kryptonite baddies with persuasive hands
another "one kryptonite bad guy" and "benevolent kryptonite powered citizen" episode! Last time we had serial killer old man pianist and That's So Raven future see-er old woman, now we have two people with the same ability and that's the power of persuasion via handshake.
evil kryptonite man uses his persuasive abilities to gentrify land and pollute it, while the more benevolent kryptonite guy doesn't want anyone to be manipulated by his abilities so he becomes a hermit in the woods and creates junkyard art.
super fun episode! I liked that this shenanigan caused Lex to attack Clark for a bit before his memory gets wiped and he forgot what happened.
Was a tad frustrated at the Lana subplot this time. I like that there's ups and downs in their relationship that reflect both the love triangle and Clark's sympathy for the hermit, but Lana's beef with Clark boiled down to "no way my bf would attack the hermit" and Clark saying "well your bf did attack me to make me a jesus scarecrow" and Lana saying "you still haven't gotten over my bf violently hazing you? Urgh!" UwU he was peer pressured into assaulting you, Clark! Get over it. Yeesh.
I get that she's like "you're siding with the town hermit who you barely know but won't trust me on matters of my own bf" but the town hermit's "crimes" are not proven and meanwhile Lana's bf Whitney did tangible harm on Clark and has been standoffish. Just some eh conflict
I like that Clark projects himself onto the town hermit and keeps giving him the benefit of the doubt because of it.
Chloe smooches Clark and it's just as weird as you'd think. Pete really isn't involved in anything :/
the kryptonite hermit survives wow! He goes out on his own trying to make a positive difference in the world and keeps Clark's secret. The Monster of the Week formula evolves,,
Plenty of car damage!! Lex even shoots a bunch of cars with a gun!! Counter goes up: 9
Clark doesn't stare at Lana while a song plays this time. Instead he and Lex stare out of the barn together and talk about friendship. Lex says their friendship will be legendary. Ouch but no dice, counter stays at: 6.5
ep 12 If I Was You I'd Wanna Be Me Too
Clark loses his powers to a classmate holding kryptonite in a freak lightning strike!! I thought this was going to be a Parasite flavored episode but instead it's a Superman Confidential: Kryptonite flavored episode! With hints of that Livewire electric touch origin.
Clark gets to be a normal guy while his classmate Eric recklessly showcases his powers and informally debuts as Superboy instead. Clark gets to see how he'd be treated if people knew, and he's initially jealous but then ends up enjoying being an average human.
It's sweet seeing Clark enjoy average things, even Lana's bf Whitney plays a fun game of basketball with him.
I liked how even though this episode ends with Clark saying that he's grateful for having supportive parents compared to Eric who had horrible parents that basically immediately reported their son in for experimentation, that Clark still isn't just a product of his parents' beliefs here. The Kents didn't want Clark to go out and confront Eric (potentially killing him) but Clark's heroism prevails. And Eric also isn't just a product of his parents.
I adored how this tied into the Lex plot. Lex is sus over Clark saving him in the initial car crash, but then witnesses Clark being painfully human AND is confronted by Clark telling him to back off. Lex cherishes their friendship so much that he does! And that's cool to watch Lex be so protective of the Kents.
For once it felt like Lana was the subplot to Clark's "I want to be normal" motivation here, instead of it being the other way around. It truly fleshes Clark out as a character and makes him more dimensional.
Also the Lex and his gf Victoria corporate showdown seems to have wrapped up here with the reveal that Lex's dad and Victoria were an item?? weeh weeh so the creep behavior runs in the family lol
we are graced with several car damage moments yet again, oh the joy of hitting double digits: 10
Clark stares at Lana as she leaves the flower shop/cinema! And a miserable on the nose song plays as this happens, yippeee: 7.5
