Growing up in india means being jealous of your best friend for scoring higher than you in an exam. These feelings are so normalised that you're actually weird if you do just feel happy for them and I think that's something we should try to change.

i go to a corporate collage and their beakfast lunch and dinner is unhealthy competition with a side of pushing students over the edge. On the first day, they told us that we should be competing with the very person sitting next to us. then the classroom. Then the next classroom. I'm honestly surprised they didn't hand us machetes and tell us to go kill the competition.

Why? I could never give you an answer even if I read all the books in the world.

The person sitting next to me is my friend. My bestie. My partner in crime. My irl moot. I see her struggle every day to get marks to appease to her parents. WHY THE 9 RINGS OF HELL would I ever imagine competing with some I hold hands with everyday to walk to the bus? Share each other's tiffin if our mothers screwed with the recipe to make it "healthier"? Someone who pats me on the back for lost marks? Someone who looks for me everyday before the classes start?

they are so obsessed with squeezing us into a grinder and pouring out marks that they fail to see all the tears they filter out. monsters i tell you, that is what a monster looks like.
