Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“The completion of a person is only attained through these two qualities:
1. Determination/zeal that elevates him.
2. Knowledge that gives him insight and guides him.
For indeed, the levels of happiness and success are only missed due to a deficiency in these two areas, or in one of them.” Miftah Dar Al-Sa’ādah (1/125)

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“The heart, in its journey to Allāh, Majestic is He, is like that of a bird: love is its head, and fear and hope are its two wings.
When the head and two wings are sound, the bird flies gracefully. If the head is severed, the bird dies… if the bird loses one of its wings, it then becomes a target for every hunter or predator.”

Al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) said:
“Patience is a treasure amongst the treasures of goodness that Allah does not grant except to a servant that is noble to Him.”

المستغني بالله عن الناس حر عزيز.
He who is self-sufficient through Allah and independent of people is free and honorable.
Learn to depend on your creator alone, not His creations. Sometimes we are tested with insaan; they would be our umbrella and close shut when the storm hits, they would be the footprints that guide you that disappear when the wind stirs, they would be the candle that goes off when it’s pitch black, a map that disappears when you are lost, and they would be the guideline that fades when you wish to pursue it.
And there comes a moment when you realize the creation is infallible; perhaps they are tested within their limits. It is our Rabb emptying our hands so that we raise our arms to Him alone instead. Perhaps it is not abandonment, but a lesson to be ingrained, that perhaps it is a test to understand how quickly we attach, and how painfully we learn to let go.
Ya Rabb, do not let my heart cling to things, dreams, and people that are not meant to stay. Make me content with You alone, for You are forever constant. Write my name among those who are never away from You. Aameen.
