“We don’t have to retrain [police]. We gotta let them be held accountable for their actions.” -Ronald Lanier (x) | follow @the-movemnt
Where’s all the “Blue Lives Matter” people now?!?! …Or does that only apply when the victims are White? …Or does that only matter if the offenders aren’t also cops?

SCREAMING
I have a fucking headache
I just lost half of my brain cells reading that.
This is how I sext.
Just a reminder in case your mind is playing tricks on you today: You matter. You’re important. You’re loved. And your presence on this earth makes a difference whether you see it or not. You’re going to be okay.
one time in sixth grade i did my math homework and then because i was excited that i had grasped the lesson so well, i did the next day’s homework too
the next day in class i told my teacher, and she looked constipated for a second, and then said dismissively, “well, then you’re not very good at following directions, are you.”
#I identify strongly with this#I got reprimanded on multiple ocasions for reading ahead and/or already having knowledge

Cause tags are truth. Maaan ,that one time a teacher stole my encyclopedia cause it proved her wrong.
when I was eight and in public school, we could do a report based on any historical character who had a book about them in the school library.
I picked Harriet Tubman because Harriet Tubman, and I wrote about how her master had thrown an anvil at her head, leaving her with a permanent dent in her forehead. I know that the anvil part was definitely in the school library book.
My teacher circled the word “anvil” and took off points.
“I HAVE SPELLED ANVIL CORRECTLY,” I roared in tiny confrontation.
“No,” she said, and it transpired that she didn’t know or care that “anvil” is a word or that “anvils” are a thing.
And so despite my helpful attempts to explain what anvils were, including references to blacksmiths and the Roadrunner, I had points taken off OH MY GOD.
YES, I AM STILL MAD ABOUT THIS TWENTY YEARS LATER. FUCK YOU, LADY. YOU ARE DOUBTLESSLY DEAD BY NOW AND I HOPE YOU KNOW YOUR STUDENTS STILL HATE YOU.
ANVILS ARE A THING.
From “Daring Greatly” by Brene Browne:
“…85 percent of the men and women we interviewed for the shame research could recall a school incident from their childhood that was so shaming, it changed how they thought of themselves as learners.”
I think about this quote a lot when I think of school.
Damn that resonates with me. The first time I ever contemplated suicide I was eight years old and it was because my teacher shamed me in front of the other students so often I was terrified of going to class.
If a student didn’t get a perfect score on an assignment she would make us stand in front of the class one by one and publicly discuss all of the mistakes that we made. It was terrible.
My little brother had the same teacher two years later and he would run away from school after my mom dropped us off to avoid facing her. Just awful.
I regularly had teachers punish me for “talking back” or “being disrespectful/confrontational” because I would point out their mistakes esp. when in regard to them taking points off my work. I had some piece of shit tell me the way I pronounced “cupboard” was wrong (she would pronounce it “cup-board” but because my mother allowed us to watch English films I knew how to actually pronounce it.)
I also vividly remember the time a teacher dragged on a confrontation for a whole week because she wouldn’t accept the way I spelt “occasion” and made me write “I will not talk back to my teachers” 100 times which of course I refused to do and she made me stanmd outside the classroom in a half-sit holding my ears. The issue was only resolved when I told my mother about it and she came to school with an Oxford dictionary and schooled the stupid teacher about it.
It is honestly and continues to be baffling to me the kind of people that are put in charge of children during their formative years.
My 7th grade social studies teacher shamed me in front of the class for not going to church (because as an 11 year old I had that kind of control?) and then got angry when I tried to turn in an assignment I had did ahead of time - we literally had the same assignment every week (read the chapter and complete the questions at the end.)
I had a teacher who would punish me for my motor ticks and another one who yelled at me when I pointed out that a classroom full of farmer’s children knew what a tractor was. The best one was the TA who kicked me (not very hard mind) when I fell asleep on the floor and shouted “wake up lazy baby” I was 5 and having chemotherapy.
I didnt know body wash could be so sexy and condescending
Every time I see this post I think it’s a fire extinguisher and I get really confused
“Hey, what are you drawing? Can I see i–”
Someone on here once pointed out how whenever beauty vloggers on youtube do those, “my boyfriend does my makeup” challenges; the guy never seems to know what he’s doing, he doesn’t know what contouring is or highlighting and everyone thinks he’s just being a dude but really it shows that he obviously doesn’t watch his girlfriend’s videos that she’s clearly passionate about making, if he can’t understand something as simple as a primer and that really sucks
I also think about how wild it is that women get mocked and made fun of for pretending to be interested in sports and other things that are typically understood as male interests, and it seems like we’re the weird ones for doing that, but it’s crazy how there’s no pressure on men to be interested in, or at least understand anything considered feminine, like, wouldn’t you want to have knowledge about something your significant other is interested in?
I see memes where the guy is shopping for what to get his girlfriend and someone suggests a highlighter and dude goes out and gets sharpie highlighters! Then people think it’s hilarious, because he’s just a guy being a dude y'know but if a girl doesn’t know shit about basketball, or football, or video games, or cars, or comics or whatever else she’s an idiot

Every single person during the Summer of 2016
I don’t feel close to anyone anymore
I am in the 1% of the population with this, but I really do not enjoy summer. I love winter, like… if you are cold, you can put on a hoodie, you can grab a blanket and snuggle…. Like… when you’re hot, what do you do? Rip your skin off?
