This week’s mix is from Scientific Dreamz of U, a nodal point of positive energies which may be loosely described as the psychic projections of a gentle London-based experimental nanotechnologist. The project blends elements of ‘New Age’ and Trance with the deeper reaches of techno and electro, the long-form tracks a synaesthetic celebration of the sacred union of mind & body. His music has recently seen manifestations on labels like Tabernacle Records, Bokhari and Crème Organization with rumours of a sighting deep within the R-Zone. Next to that, he hosts the monthly ‘Kestrel Explorations’ show on NTS Radio alongside likeminded spirit and production collaborator Junior Loves, sharing musings on the nature of the sacred bird and tracks close to their respective hearts. In this guest mix, he explores the full spectrum of his electronic universe, showcasing his throbbing techno sound and layering it with deep, abstract washes obtained from his scientific mindset. Look out for new releases in the coming months in the shape of two more collaborations with Junior Loves in the shape of a 12” as part of Crème Organization’s ‘Valley of the Shadows’ series, this time a split between Crème and Berceuse Heroique, and a long-play cassette with Vancouver label 1080p Collection. Jimmy Chen plots the temperaments of famous writers on his subjective scale of arrogance and genius – a delightful concept, though one bound to trigger equally subjective beefs. (For instance: Susan Sontag belongs much lower and further to the right, as does Joan Didion.)

Pair with this more objective, or at least more data-based, visualization of how long it took writers to go from rookie to genius.
