studio ghibli’s spirited away is not only an allegory for the downfall of capitalism but also an allegory for the relationship between baby boomers and millennials. this is because chihiro’s parents indulge in rampant consumerism ie eating the spirit food despite chihiro pointing out possible negative ramifications. however, chihiro’s parents ignore her warnings and in turn are turned into pigs, a problem that chihiro alone is tasked with grappling with and resolving. as a result chihiro is left to work hard in order to pick up the pieces and fix things, a problem that seems for at least part of the movie to be a herculean task. in this essay i will
