you notice over time that some people clearly understand the concept of thinking critically about the media they consume and who its created by but dont want to do the critical thinking themselves so they just like. wait for people on the internet to tell them what theyre allowed to like in order to keep their Good Person score high or whatever. which doesnt seem very productive to me i think.

I don't want to buy mass-produced garbage from a big box store so I go to etsy but half of etsy is now dropshipped mass-produced garbage or AI slop so I go to the local arts and crafts street market but a ton of those booths are also selling the same generic plastic objects or identical stickers or 3D printed dragons so WHERE do I buy real trinkets and art from sincere freaks

I seriously cannot even imagine how hard it must be for young/beginner artists in this landscape. Not that it was great back when I was a kid, but I feel like the onset of social media and the concept of influencers and content creators really changed things.

When you first start drawing, you’re gonna draw bad. But you’re still proud of that drawing and want to show people! And when it doesn’t get big numbers you sit there and think about how long it’ll take before you’re “good enough” for big numbers and just give up or develop a self loathing complex

I’ve been in some all ages discord servers and seen younger people talking about this and how hopeless they feel and like they’ll never get better. I know it’s a feeling every one gets at some point when learning something new, but the circumstances of today’s internet really seem to amplify that feeling more and more

I could lecture for hours to kids about how numbers don’t matter, but it won’t help. Social media is so ingrained in our daily lives that it’s so hopelessly futile to try not to care about numbers!

Idk, if you’re reading this, please don’t stop drawing. Please keep the joy it brings you in your heart. Please do your best to remember that even though you’re not a professional, your art isn’t worthless. If your art doesn’t get numbers, tag me in it. I’ll give it a number.

#also worth noting that even fifteen years later #when you get better #and you think 'my art is so good now it's so much better #I'm definitely gonna get Numbers now'#there's a very real chance you just... won't get Numbers #nobody's gonna give a shit #and you realize it's about playing the algorithm and having immense luck or maybe a more likeable personality I don't know #but basically #don't draw with the intention of getting those numbers #because it's gonna crush you when you don't get them #this was already pretty bad for me as a beginner artist all those years ago #but nowadays I'm sure the competition and the entire art scene is 1000x more crushing to newbies than it was then #I just try to stay away from it entirely at this point #used to beat myself up over it a lot #like it sucks but you gotta learn to just draw because you like it. draw for the sake of it #and not for the sake of a futile luck based popularity contest #I'm just rambling but yeah

so i made a potpourri with cinnamon and nutmeg and ginger and cloves and orange peel and anise and i have boiled it all day and it smelled so nice i took a sip and the sip was actually wonderful so now i have drunk four cups of potpourri juice and i am only now going to the internet to ask if i am going to Experience The Torments. or if i may have a fifth.

(i cannot quite explain it, but it’s like my entire low i have had a low grade stomachache, and normally i just deal but This Juice helps a little. i am unreasonably fond of it.)

#I have to go to work :/#if I go early #I could get a slushy .?#but I literally JUST got paid and just bought the huge cd player i didn't need #do I really want to get something unnecessary on day one #I could instead get a bottle of grenadine syrup #which is still expensive but less than a slushy #and just have an ice cold ranja multiple times over #ugh I need to get hair ties #I literally got a pack ages ago #vowed to keep them all in one place #and did my best at that #and now there's one. in that one place #WHERE ARE THE REST WHERE DO THEY GO LITERALLY WHERE ARE THEY #hair ties are the ultimate Easily Lost Item #tbh I think a lot of them just got stretched out and snapped-#I'm making due with just one but eventually this might become a problem #anyways I'm thinking I should take out a bunch of cash every pay day #bc I don't always bring my cash everywhere so i use it less #and if there's nothing in my bank account I end up getting less snacks n shit #so ultimately. savings 😍#I've also started doing this thing where after my income gets divvied up into savings #I round down everything into a clean number #and put the excess in the savings I'm not touching until I move out/finish school #it's also my Pay Back My Debt In Case I Quit School savings #cause most of it is just DUO money I've been holding onto for ages #but if I get my diploma I don't have to pay it back. and then I have a ton of money for a down payment on an apartment #+ enough for some furniture and appliances and maybe even an emergency fund #so I really need to get that diploma otherwise I'm a couple thousand in debt #yay I'm an adult I love being financially responsible yayayyyyyyy part time retail job ahahaha
