ADVENTURE TIME. From Rachel, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA: “My favorite adventure was my first solo trip. My boyfriend at the time and I were actually planning on going on our first trip as a couple to the Riviera Maya, but the plans fell through. It was the last straw, and we soon broke up. I had been getting really excited preparing for the trip, so the breakup was especially hard. But, then I realized, who says I couldn’t go on my own? I had never traveled alone before, so the idea was a little scary. But I read up on a lot of articles about solo female travelers and prepared myself, and just decided to do it. It was the best decision ever. I will always remember my first breakfast there, looking out onto the turquoise waves and enjoying my coffee. I was a little lonely at times, but it was still very empowering, and the best way to commemorate my new freedom. One of the best, most healing trips I’ll never forget, especially knowing that I did this for me, all by myself.”
