Garbage Collaboration in progress:

Found some garbage in my room, don't know what to do with them, so i challenge myself of putting them together into something new. I made some new forms out of them, but still struggling on putting them into one object.....

When creativity can't be taught, this is how most of the ARTDIY ideas form and evolve. If you don't have an idea of what to do in the beginning, play with what you already have, then let your work sit in your room for a while, look at it later on again and again, then change a bit or so, the end result may then become a master piece!

Here is a little demo on how to turn an old rice bag into a reusable grocery bag. You can turn anything you want into one just as long as the material will hold up to excessive use.

step:

1. find your outside material. pick something fun and unique.

2. get another (different) material for the lining. The lining is important in case there is a hole in the outside

3. since I used an old shirt, cut off the arms and neck. check to make sure the body fits in with the size of the bag you want.

4. if the source material you are using needs to be cut down do it before you start sewing

5. turn the rice bag inside out. match up your lining using pins

6. where the handle goes, make sure you fold down an inch or two. This will add support

7.sewing the lining to the rice bag along the stitching line.

8. Once sewing is done turn the bag right side out. Depending on the type of handle you want will determine where you go from here.

9. If you have extra material you can sewing a handle on, if thats what you want. If you want to have the handle incorperated into the bag, use a marker and draw where you want it.

10. Stitch along the line you drew.

11. cut inside the stitches.

Your new recycled reusable grocery bag is not complete

How to make soap with used cooking oil:

materials needed-Used cooking oil,rain water, Lye crystals (available in Home Hardware for $12.99 in Canada)

Steps:

1.mix lye crystals with rain water(1 cup of lye with 50 cup of water)

2.reheat used cooking oil (normal heat for five minutes)

3.mix lye and water solution with used oil

4.mix until gel form(need about 15 to 20 minutes of continue mixing)

5.Pour into container(plastic , wood or china. Must not use metal container)

6.let it sit for 3 days to turn in soap.

Got leftover cooked rice? There is a great printmaking technique called chine collé. The idea of this is kinda like that of a post stamp or wallpaper.

What we do is take the cooked rice and recook it. We want to over cook it till it turns into a sticky almost paste like texture. Blend the rice until all the lumps are gone. The best way to ensure all lumps are out of the chine collé is to strain after its bused up. Its best to do this all while its still warm.

Once strained allow to cool, store in a container in the fridge.

Working with this rice paste is very simple. Apply a thin layer on whatever you want to glue. Wait for it to be completely dry, usually about an hour. Once dry, lightly wet the surface of the object you want it to be stuck to. Its best to use a spray bottle or a sponge because you don't want the surface to be too wet. Apply the chine collé side down and lightly apply more water. Add lots of pressures. I found a stack of text books for 10-15mintues worked extremely well.

Once dry you can colour or use as you need it to.

Ebay Vivitar $30 Wide angle lens review:

I love to buy stuffs from eBay, they are always cheap, and since you don't get to test or try them out before you make your credit card transaction, thus sometimes you get stuffs that are way above your expectation , or sometimes you just receive a junk from the mail.

I bought a Vivitar Wide angle lens add-on for my Canon from eBay for $30.It has a 0.43X wide angle also a macro closeup. I don't have much of an expectation from it while ordering, and it turns out as I thought; a poor quality but is fun to play with. With some Photoshop skills, this lens add-on is still consider usable:)

This top photo is an example of dividing the frame into 3 parts. Capturing part of the floor with the glove and the chinchillas sitting on it makes it more diverse. This gives more information to the viewer but at the same time allows for the attention to be on the subject. This extra information is like breathing room, it does not overwhelm the viewer, but makes the picture interesting.

The bottom photo is an example of a bull's eye composition. The focal point is in the centre of the frame. If your subject is interesting like architecture or a face it can be engaging, however, if there is not much going on within the frame, it exhausts quickly.

Here is an example of filling the frame with a symmetrical, bull's eye composition. This creates drama and instant impact. The top photo is less successful because there is too much to look at. Your eye wonders the picture and there is nothing to keep you interested.

A Interview done with a senior Student Velma Reid(currently studying in the Visual Art program at the University of Windsor) talking about why and how we can do art .

This is my take on something like an ugly doll. I made them out of old socks and t-shirts. I didn't have any stuffing or fluff so I used the rest of the socks to fill their bodies. I think they would make a fun way for people to learn how to sow. I didn't put much thought in what the end product would look like because I think this way is much free and organic looking. They activity makes great use of all those holey apparel we all have. These make great dolls for children and Im sure pets would love another chew toy.

What are some of the ways that you can make art from garbage bags? Well, you can paint on them, draw on them , put stuffs in, do whatever you want with them ! Then place them at your neighbour's door, inside your roommates' closet , in your dad's car , cheers whomever you love or freak someone out if you like. My goal is to unlock the power of your imagination,have fun and enjoy your life with art!
