Eww Choob 1 year ago Hi Dan - thanks for the very helpful vid. Wonder if you can help - I took the big screw off my pump ( a standard 3-port Grundfos) and put an electric screwdriver in and tried to turn the motor - it wouldn't budge either clockwise or anti-clockwise. At this point there was only a trickling escape of water. Then I put a bigger screwdriver back into hole and gave it a few light taps with a hammer whilst trying to turn it. At this point water started to spurt out from the tiny centre hole - almost horizontally - rather than just trickle out. Is this normal or have I broken something? Any info greatly appreciated as the only heat I have at the moment is coming from my wife's scalding fury... p.s. Incidentally I did manage to get the motor shaft turning with an electric screwdriver after the leak had drained down the central heating tank in the loft and therefore practically stopped. Do It All Dan Do It All Dan Do It All Dan 1 year ago I personally have never had the water spurting out, it does (meant to) have a steady trickle of water but only a trickle. If it's a pressurised system you may have some build up of pressure but I would take the head off by the four Allen key bolts and check the impeller inside the head to make sure it isn't damaged just to be sure 👍🏻 1 Eww Choob Eww Choob 1 year ago (edited) @Do It All Dan Big thanks for the reply Dan - system is gravity fed so not pressurised, (?). Will check the impeller as you kindly suggested - what should I be looking for in terms of visible signs of damage? If it turns out that I have broken the impeller I'll then impale myself before the wife does... Do It All Dan Do It All Dan Do It All Dan 1 year ago HAhahaha no trouble, check to make sure the impeller isn't distorted or damaged/blocked in any sense make sure that it is clear and functions as should. You can buy the head alone but half the time you may as well buy a unit. Let me know how you get on 👍🏻 1 Eww Choob Eww Choob 1 year ago @Do It All Dan Will check and report back. It's people like you that make youtube worth watching. You can quote me on that (inc. VAT of course).

Trades People - Tips
5) make sure they have an up to date public liability insurance!! 1) get references 2) only use recognised professional people 3) go and see their past recent work 4) obtain at least 3 priced 6) always ! always get to understand what you are getting for your money 7) never pay by cash 8) the cheapest is often the most expensive. 1. First ask for references which you can verify in person. Probably living within range. 2. Look for local tradesmen within range I.e.trackeable/known. Seek several quotes. Never go for the cheapest. Do not worry about the fancy names and stickers marked checkAtrade, this and the other. Take this serious. Wolves do wear Goat's clothing. They stop wearing sheep's clothing because people are now aware of this. 3. Discuss the job in full- all costs even to cleanup afterwards. 4. Have all this in writing. Even by doing it yourself or ask on here for documentation help. Have both parties sign and copies given. Even for small jobs! At this point the CROOKS tremble. Discreet audio recordings may help on your phone too. At the end of the job any disagreement just refer to the signed agreement ONLY! 5. Inspect job when done and only pay for, according to the agreement. Any argument at this point call for third party HELP! 6. Arguments- dont pay remain calm, get arbitrator- friend, police... 7. Pay cash for small amounts only. Eg. Up to £100 Over £100 pay into account or by cheque. Leave a trail. Ask for receipts too- over certain amounts. Discuss payment and payment method, initially before work starts. Any disagreement from the above find someone who can agree to your arrangements. You are the employer! 8. YOU yes you must be kind, honest, courteous, respectful and stick to the agreement. Agreements can change along the way but remember to review a new agreement if necessary. Eg. If material prices change, or weather conditions! Value your workers. They are not your children or slaves!
