CAN NOT WIN

Sixty Seven Cents To The Dollar. 

Women make sixty seven cents to the dollar a man makes. Unequal pay, we're all aware of this. This morning I woke up and I followed my daily routine. Shower - Obviously shampoo & conditioner & then the body wash that costs more than the two combined. Then, I washed my face, with that expensive cleanser I bought last week. Finally, I applied my makeup, ya know, concealer, foundation, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow & lip stick. Don't forget, I have to use my makeup remover to take it all off later.

The point I'm trying to make here is that the cost of living for a women is much higher than for a man. Male products are cheaper than female products such as soaps and razors. Also, men don't need to buy the expensive body or all the make up & removers than a women feels obligated to buy just to fit in today's society. 

NOT ONLY IS SOCIETY PRESSURING ME INTO BUYING ALL THESE PRODUCTS JUST SO I CAN BE ACCEPTABLE, I ALSO MAKE LESS THAN A MAN WHO DOESN'T NEED THESE PRODUCTS. 

Now excuse me as I take off my makeup with my $7.49 make up remover & my $5.99 eye makeup remover & prepare myself for work tomorrow, where I will be making less money an hour than my male co workers. On the bright side, at least I'll look good doing it? 

NO ACTUALLY NO THAT IS NOT A BRIGHT SIDE. YOU CAN'T WIN.

NO BOOTY NO RING

I attended a poetry event, called Verbal Mayhem, which is an organization that promotes writers to share their works of arts. One girl's poem has continued to stick out in my head, even though it was almost a month ago from today. In her poem she talks about how she is an African American so people expect her to have a big butt. She states that her "ass is little for a black girl" and that when she walks down the street, boys are "disappointed" by what they see as she passes. I was snapping my fingers throughout this whole poem, especially when she said, "just because I have a flat ass doesn't mean I won't make a wonderful wife, one that makes you breakfast every morning, will be loyal and will love you forever." EXCUSE ME SOCIETY BUT SINCE WHEN DOES A GIRL NEED A BOOTY IN ORDER TO BE A GOOD WIFE. SORRY MY ASS IS FLAT, I'M TRULY SORRY.... But what, if i did have a big butt, then would guys want to marry me? If I had a big butt would my husband be okay with me cheating and not doing shit all day? If I had an ass, would I be considered wonderful or lovable or "WIFEY MATERIAL" because that's what it's looking like. It's such a shame that girls are out there thinking they won't find love because of what's on the outside. As I was walking down the hall, a boy smiled at me and when I passed him, I looked back, to see his face disappointed and now uninterested. Be right back, let me do some squats until my ass is big enough to be a wife. SIKE.

Oh The Daily Targum

November 7, 2014. I pick up The Daily Targum and on the cover is a huge picture of a male basketball player. Where is the women's basketball team? Yep, on the back of the newpaper. The only reason I found the picture of the female basketball player was because I dropped the paper and it fell on the ground upside down. I bet a lot of people didn't even notice the picture on the back cover because for one, who looks at the back cover? To add, the picture of the male player was zoomed in, his body taking up the whole page. On the other hand, the woman player took up less than half of the page. I really don't understand. This made me feel like women, even here at Rutgers, are unappreciated.  The women's basketball team is one of the highest ranked teams out of all other Rutgers sports. The inside of the paper only included an article about the women's team on the very last two pages of the newspaper, meanwhile, the men's basketball team. men's soccer team, and wrestling team had many articles and pages. This just got me really mad. If anything, a nationally ranked team should make priority over a team that isn't, no matter the sex of the team. 

Lesson learned- I'll look on the back cover of the targum from now on.

Bic Pens for Women. Too funny not to share! :D

yasss Ellen always knows how to turn a ridiculous situation into a ridiculously funny situation. This idea of pens for women, I think, is just a to get more money. Do companies really think women would fall for this? A PEN IS A PEN. Why must everything in this world be separated into a men and women category. Shampoo, razors, and now pens?! What is equality and where can I find it?

I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the first male actor to recognize this is a topic to be talking about. His beliefs are basic, but they clearly regard women as a gender that should be able to do what they choose. He talks about hey if you want to be a mother, then do it! but if you don’t that’s okay too. I like how he discusses how important it is to just make sure everyone has a fair chance to be what they want.

I've always loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt and now I have another reason. If more male icons voice their opinion like him, there is more of a chance feminism will grow. The world needs more males to clarify what feminism so a change can be made as soon as possible. I believe you need both male and female supporters and then people will finally realize we're all equal.

There is a social stigma where in todays society some women feel if they are too successful they will not be loved by a man because they pose a threat to the man’s manhood. A lot of men in fact do not want to be less successful than their female partners. People still have the mindset of the 1950s when men were the breadwinners and women were suppose to sit home and watch them bring home the money. Those times are no longer and there are many successful women in society. We should teach both young men and women that it should not be a competition of who is more successful or that one sex should be more successful then the other.

This post triggered a memory I have as a little girl. I remember always wanting to go and play with my male cousins as a child and hearing side comments from my uncle. I was such a little girl, but I was not oblivious, I could interpret his comments which always put me down. Being the only girl out of all my cousins, I was never allowed to "make the rules" and when I would try I would be ignored, or hear my uncle tell my mom how I'm already a bitch and that I'm a bossy brat. I was always told to 'stay with the girls' meaning my mom and aunts, all which were at least thirty years older than me. I obliviously refused, and would go play with the boys. In the times I would get hurt, the response I would receive always was, "I told you so."  A quality I cherish is assertiveness and one day I hope to own my own dentist office and be in charge. Why is it when a girl tells another girl to do something it's ok but as soon as she tells a guy something she's a bitch. And why must I always think twice about being assertive. I usually find myself rewording my statement to a question when speaking to a man, it all depends on if I'm in the mood to deal with "You are a bitch" comments.
