This weeks reading....albeit the reading was brief to say the least. 

Japanese architecture has interested me since the start of my architectural career nearly four years ago. My interest lies not just the aesthetics, but the connection of joints, the religious connotations and construction methods. 

It is a useful concise book of information with incredibly detailed, hand drawn illustrations helping the reader to understand the complexity of this type of construction. 

Chapters run from the “worship” ceremonies in architecture, “Daily Life” in residential and urban architecture through to “Battles” in the castles and towns of Japan. It also contains an architectural chronology that includes periods of important that occurred in the West as well as Japan.

Sections, elevations and plans done for second review - Silent review!

Slightly nerve wracking this one i must say. Sit there, be quiet and let other people talk back to you about your work. Although the benefits are apparent, other people pick up on potential mistake and provide a fresh eye on the whole project. I always try to take opinions on board as constructive and make the changes suggested if they are for the better. Thankfully, nearly all feedback was good. A few small changes are needed but nothing major. 

On with the project, 1:50 sections and elevations as well as detailing some key sections of the building....all with the help of the music of Miike Snow!

Inspiration came from a Detail Magazine article from 1994, a sports hall in Munich, Germany. 

Small changes have been made for it to interact with my structure a little better, but all in all it provides a significant entrance to the building.

Design module review one done!

First one of the year and plenty more to go.

I find the reviews very hyelpful in giving me ideas and inspiration on where to take the projet next. It also helps having my peers comment on the work to help me recognise points i may have overlooked.

All in all it went well, a lot of researh went into the context of the site and ground conditions. The review lead me to focus on the concrete foundation type due to the ground satuaration. This is going to be an important design factor because of the site location being so close to seawater - salt attack on the concrete will have to be considered.

My dissertation is a study on sulphate attack on concrtete foundations so it will relate directly to my design module.
