sup kanaks, we going learn how fo speak pidgin!
A little background of pidgin- Pidgin started in old hawaii on the plantations where people from all over came to Hawaii to work on these plantations. People from all over such as the Japanese, Portuguese, Filipinos, etc. worked on these plantations and all of them didn't speak a common language so they created Pidgin which help them communicate with one another.
Pidgin is not only a way of life but its what connects all of us together in the islands. Whether your local or haole, or a different ethnicity, Pidgin allows us to come together and just talk story. We let it represent us and bring us together li dat. Its da hawaiian way
These are just a handful of words that are apart of pidgin and can be heard everyday when talking to someone in the islands. Most of the words used in the language are some english but are just shortened and said differently to come out faster and straight to the point.
Many words and sayings in pidgin are used multiple times for many different situations and feelings. Words like âbrahâ and âbummahsâ can be used in different situations and can mean different things. Also this can be true for âAlohaâ and âMahaloâ.
This is a video making fun of chant as all the words are pidgin instead of actual Hawaiian. This was created by an old comedy by the name of rap reiplinger who used pidgin and stereotypes to make comedies in the 70s in Hawaii. This âchantâ kind of explains a little about daily life and Hawaiian life in the day
This is just an a short clip showing how a person from Hawaii uses pidgin in everyday scenarios. - i think this is pretty true lol
