caden’s eyes glazed along the beach as his feet trudged in the slightly damp sand near the shore. it’d been what felt like forever since his skin had met with sand, and this bonfire only made him realize how much he’d missed the feeling. he took a sip of the beer he had nestled in a koozie, his parched mouth appreciating the cool liquid on his tongue. he wasn’t buzzed yet, but he definitely planned to be later into the night. “the beach is so nice at night, you know? like, fuck a sunset view. this is so much better.” he said to no one in particular, gesturing towards the deep blue sky casting over the salty water. “anyway, enjoying the bonfire?”
cassie stayed nearer to the water than to the fire, wanting to avoid all the smoke. the good spots by the fire where the smoke didn’t blow towards had been taken by the time she had gotten there, so she figured she’d snag a beer and a marshmallow and head to the water. she wasn’t unaware of the others nearer to the ocean than the fire, but she wasn’t paying much attention to them, so she started at the sound of a voice. “you ever seen the sunrise over the water?” she asked conversationally, kicking off her sandals and sinking down into the sand. “it’s beautiful. the colors are always changing.” she glanced up with a smile. “yeah, thus far. not quite as drunk as i’d normally like, but that’s alright. you?”
