Yup, you're in a strange position, all right. You're in love with a girl who is no more, jealous of a boy who's gone forever. Even so, this emotion you're feeling is more real, and more intensely painful, than anything you've ever felt before. And there's no way out. No possibility of finding an exit. You've wandered into a labyrinth of time, and the biggest problem of all is that you have no desire at all to get out. Am I right?
Kafka on The Shore, by Haruki Murakami
Stefano Di Luigi, a great Italian photographer, who's latest project is a showcase of public unrest and growing discontent with the politics of economist Mario Monti's regime as prime minister. With the economic crisis of 2008, Italia is poised alongside much of the rest of Europe in serious financial debt, much to malaise of just about everybody. Monti recently stepped down from power on December 21, however the issues he created still remain. Welfare systems, political institutions and industrial base have been radically reconstructed, with the middle class paying the price.
The blurb alongside the collection puts it much more aptly and eloquently, so refer to that for further explanation.
The photos themselves are simply of people screaming in protests around Italia, and are the best exhibition of honest outrage I've seen, proving that photography is much more than aesthetic art.
But don't listen to me. Go check out the photos and see for yourself.
