Dance with Me?
In the morning, Antheia quickly got up and went to find Xal. She was standing outside of the tent, staring off. "Hey," she said quietly, as Antheia cautiously brought her fingers to her chin, and gently tilted her head. You were bleeding last night. What happened?"
Xal's whole body stiffened, as Antheia's voice registered in her mind. "It... was nothing. Scratched myself by accident."
Both of them stood there for a moment longer. Xal was the one to break the silence. "I'm sorry that's a lie. It was...I don't really know how to say it. Haven't quite processed it. Don't know what to do about it. I'd rather forget it, at least for now."
Antheia's fingers lingered on her chin, as she looked Xal in the eyes. "Do you want to leave?"
Xal nodded furiously. "Yes." she said, her voice sounded so small, and scared.
"Then we are leaving." Antheia responded, and gently squeezed her hand to give her some comfort. Quickly, she packed up their equipment and they headed back toward the surface. Throughout their trek, Antheia made sure that Xal knew she was with her. While she set up camp, Antheia let Xal to her thoughts. The silence continued through the meal, which she didn't mind. The years she spent alone, allowed her to become used to quiet. That night in the tent, Antheia made sure she wasn't for from her, pressing her body against her side.
Later in the night, Antheia took Xal's hand, and started to trace the lines on her palm. "It's going to be okay. Two goddesses are watching over us." Staring down at Xal's hand, she continued, "I.I hope you aren't viewing this journey as a failure. You have faced more things from your past than most people do in a lifetime. I'm honored to be here with you, and I admire your bravery to do this."
As hours continued to pass, Xal looked over at Antheia who was still awake. "We should rest," she spoke softly.
Antheia shook her head. "I highly doubt you are going to be able to rest. I'll stay with you. I'll be fine. I've gone without sleep before."
It was a little more difficult to get moving the next morning, but Antheia pushed through the tiredness she was feeling. She wanted Xal to feel safe again. That wouldn't happen, until they were out of this place. Once out of the Underdark, Antheia could see Xal become a bit more relaxed, but she still wasn't herself. She decided it best to put as much distance as possible between them and that place, before stopping for the night.
After they finished their meal, they sat across from each other. The campfire between them, the flames illuminating Xal's face, which was still full of worry. Antheia's mind started to think of ways to help alleviate some stress. A bashful smile was on her face. Taking a deep breath, Antheia stood up, and walked over to her. As she reached out for her hand, she cast a simple spell. Four glowing orbs began to swirl around them. She cleared her throat, and could feel the heat coming from her cheeks. "Dance with me?"
