does anyone remember a story, written no later than the 2010s, that has a section about being hunted by the fae by people that have been partially changed into the shape of a hunting dog (that are the previous victims of the fae). and then they catch her and turn her into a wheel (important note: there is a description of the feeling of her getting molded into a boy) and transport her somewhere but they unwheel her eventually.

neocities. everyone knows neocities. at this point i do feel like it's become a bit too centralized, but it's a good option nonetheless. do note that there are filetype restrictions for free users, but that shouldn't be a huge issue for most. what may be an issue, though, is that there's a content security policy that prevents sites made after jan 1st, 2024 to use outside scripts. also, you have to pay to use your own domain
nekoweb. similar to neocities, but there's no filetype restrictions or a content security policy. some differences are outlined in the FAQ (thinking about moving here... i am a traitor...) i'm not sure if domain support is free or paid.
github pages or codeberg pages. you'll need an understanding of git for this
pages.gay: run by besties.house, uses git
teacake: free hosting is currently closed, but paid hosting starts at 2 bucks a month.
leprd.space: i know next to nothing about this.
a web server. don't recommend this if you don't know computer stuff but it is an option (you'll likely have to provide your own domain though)

i'm not comfortable maintaining pages in pure HTML / templating with JS sucks!
with a static site generator, you can write pages in markdown and they'll be converted into HTML and (if you'd like) be put into a template of your choosing. my personal choice is 11ty but there are tons of options!
static site generators can be a bit of a learning curve (and you will have to write some html for templating) but if you're making a lot of pages or blogging regularly it's something to consider
there are starters for 11ty online but i might make a more beginner-proofed starter and/or guide in the future? don't count on it
i don't want to write/maintain CSS
simpleCSS is a tiny CSS file you can use to make semantic HTML ("naked" HTML) look nice. it's got decent customization options too. it's not particularly fancy or opinionated, but it's a good starting point if you need something

With federal support for public radio severed, where should you donate, and why? Some thoughts:
1. Not every station is suffering equally. Some are losing a small fraction of their income and have wealthy audiences that are making up the difference.
2. Some stations have been decimated. KSHI in Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico is losing 96% of its funding. KUHB in St. Paul, Alaska is losing 97%.
3. If, like me, you live in North Carolina, the hardest hit stations are at two Historically Black Colleges and Universities: WNCU (N.C. Central University, Durham, 50%) and WRVS (Elizabeth City State University, 71%).
4. There is a helpful website for finding how much money each station loses. It's https://adoptastation.org. Not only can you look up individual stations, but you can ask the site to randomly generate a hard-hit station to support. (That's how I found the stations in New Mexico and Alaska.)
5. This funding is essential to democracy. It produces important work. After the BP oil spill, for example, Richard Ziglar and I received a public-radio grant to produce 14 stories for a series called Gulf Watch. We visited Indigenous communities, a shrimper's boat, a marina where Black oystermen work, and the home of a Vietnamese-American oyster shucker. We interviewed scientists, a charter-boat captain, and a musician. Our reports (which you can hear at https://barryyeoman.com/radio/) brought listeners close to the people most impacted by the spill and by coastal land loss. The money for our paychecks flowed from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to Louisiana Public Broadcasting to KRVS Public Media to us. (Thanks to Dorothy Kendrick, Judith Meriwether, David Spizale, James Hebert, and Karl Fontenot.)
6. For me, it was a gig. For other mission-driven journalists, it's their full livelihood.

Burn your own CDs, mend your own clothes, rent all of the books and movies you can carry at the library. Feed the birds, don’t mow your lawn, grow your own food. Love openly and honestly, give yourself patience and time, feel the emotions that you want to feel. Let yourself live in the body you have without being told to change it. Be openly and unequivocally yourself, revolt against your government, challenge preconceived notions of what you should be.
