Doggie just stood there grinning like the cat that caught the canary. Or in his case, the hound that caught the cat. “We missed you too Dr. Manx.”

Kat’s smiling expression perked up just a bit more.  “Well I’ll try not to have anywhere to go for a while.  There’s still plenty to do around here…and we can’t have you missing me too much, right?”

“No can’t have that,” He chuckled. “Coffee later? I’d like to hear about your vacation.”

Her curls bounced slightly with the nod she gave.  “Of course!  Just give me a little while to check in on the lab and Boom.  It wouldn’t hurt to make sure everything really is fine as you say, right?”

“Everything was perfectly fine,” Doggie smiled. “There was only a small fire. Maybe a couple your experiments got singed, nothing major.” He was joking, but he wasn’t going to tell her that just yet.

Of course, even with the assurance that everything was fine, the joke still got a panicked look across her face.  “A fire?  Well, wh-what exactly was damaged?”  She started taking hurried steps down the hall in the direction of her lab.  “I was making significant progress in ramping up the efficiency of the backup generator for the Delta Base Megazord…nothing I couldn’t reproduce, of course, but if my scale builds were broken I’d have to look back through a LOT of notes to remake them…”

Doggie kept his muzzle shut and and tried to stifle his laughter. He quickly caught up to her and was no longer able to hold back his laughter, “Kat! Kat I’m joking. There was no fire, everything is fine, Sirians honor.”

Kat stopped in her tracks when Doggie caught up with her, eyes wide and jaw agape when he laughed and revealed he’d been joking.  “...I’m not sure whether to be upset that you’d mess with me like that or thrilled because of how much I missed your sense of humor- rarely as it shows.”  Her surprise soon relaxed into another smile.  “...We’ll say the latter for now.”

“Good to see the base is still standing even after I’ve been gone.  Maybe next time I can take a leave of absence without having to keep my emergency communicator on-hand to help Boom out with my daily responsibilities.”

“Do you really think I was going to let the base burn down?” Doggie asked, teasing. “You have so little faith in me.”

“You know that’s not the case, Doggie.”  She elbowed him lightly, a smile quite evident on her lips.  “It just gets hard to not worry sometimes, especially after last time I was gone when Birdie recruited me to Galaxy Command.  I knew you’d only keep the cadets on a tighter leash without me there to back you up, so I was only concerned about my duties- that they were handled in spite of me not being there is a relief."
