i really like that people are sharing their experiences w/ hyper empathy on here but i see a lot of the same stuff. its not necessarily bad, yk, but i feel very alone when i look for stuff abt hyper empathy and find 20 memes about crying over stuffed animals, while im going through a depersonalization episode because i spent too much time talking to one friend about their problems and i forget who i am. my empathy makes me sensitive, caring, compassionate, and gives me a drive to help people, but its not all stuffed animals and crying when people raise their voice. i forget my personality, my wants and needs for someone else's, i trade my thoughts and emotions for those of people around me, i get exhausted when i interact with people because of everything i read on their faces. empathy is a double edged sword!!!

I was going through the hyperempathy tag for the first time because I wanted to see how other people with it are coping and this is one of the first posts I saw that actually captured my experience. Forgetting my own personality and trading my own desires and fears and needs for someone else's literally impairs me every day. Its just so hard to be and to feel like and actual person when I just become a mush of everyones emotions anytime I interact with anyone.

#DUDE YES ON THE MOVIES/TV #i have to emotionally prepare myself to watch TV & i cant do it every day #my familys big on movies & i feel bad cause they want me to watch w them too but i cant cause ill be emotionally EXHAUSTED after #like do u want me to be an asshole for the next few hours or just let me read in a diff room while u watch cinderella.#my brother was watcjing the new boys szn last week & i genuinely had to walk outside and breathe lmao it was bad #i soo get it #and its very hard to explain #ive been doing a bit better tho #im learning to compartmentalize and im still not there but it really helps me just reminding myself who i am and what My goals & emotions r #my therapist called it a double edged sword #perspective is valuable but it can cost you yk
