D.O.G Fashion Police!
We at D.O.G have decided to shake things up a bit in the D.O.G blogosphere.  We're super excited to announce our new weekly edition of the D.O.G Fashion Police.  We plan on covering all the latest celebrity  and celebrity dog fashion cheers and jeers. This week in the D.O.G Fashion Police, it's Beverly Hills Housewife Lisa VanderPump and her dog Giggy, VS Amanda Seyfried and her dog Finn. Super stylish Lisa VanderPump and her dog Giggy, attended the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in Los Angeles.  While Giggy looks fab in his purple tux, Lisa appears to be wearing the grass they must have visited before they arrived! :o  I guess that's what they refer to as a "port-o-pot"!  Still, she's a total fashionista even with the lawn on her chest. VS The gorgeous Amanda Seyfried has the obligatory Prada statement bag, but her dog Finn looks a little naked while walking the streets shopping. So the winner? Despite the forest on Lisa VanderPump's dress, we rule Giggy and her the winner.  No Maloof-pouf can keep this glamour queen out of the spotlight! So who do you think is super stylish?  Send us pictures of well-dressed and not so well-dressed celebrity dogs to face the D.O.G Fashion Police!   [email protected]
Make Every Day Earth Day with Your Dog!
Today is Earth Day, so why not include your best pal as we all "paws" to appreciate our home planet? With a little planning and consideration, minimizing your carbon pawprint is not only easy, it's fun!
Okay, so maybe every day can't be Earth Day -- yet. But as you'll see, there are simple ways to incorporate an element of this important day into your daily routine for the rest of the year. How's this for incentive: You'll be doing your part to help make the planet we all share a happy, healthy place for generations to come!
Be good to the Earth, and the Earth will be good to you and those you love.
1. Make the Switch from Plastic Poop Bags to Biodegradable Ones
Plastic bags sit in landfills for 1,000 years before decomposing. That's a disgraceful way to dis Mother Nature. And it gets worse: When they're not clogging landfills, plastic bags get blown by the wind hither and yon, into trees and out onto the ocean, where marine wildlife mistakes them for food, suffering injury and death by ingesting them. I don't want that on my conscience -- do you?
2. "Doo" Unto Others
While you're in poop-scoop mode, if you happen to notice dog waste that someone else has left behind, and if there's room in your biodegradable bag, why not scoop it up? Adopting a "No Turd Left Behind" policy is an Earth-friendly move that's good for your local community and the global community.
3. Make Your Dog a Home-Cooked Meal Using Healthy Ingredients from Nature's Pantry
Try mixing cooked organic broccoli (dogs love the stems), spinach, pumpkin, and/or lentils and serve this veggie medley over some organic quinoa or millet. Add in a spoonful of coconut oil and a dash of cinnamon and turmeric, and you've got the makings of an Earth Day feast fit for a top dog of the human or canine persuasion!
Go for a natural clean this Earth Day4. Forgo Chemical Cleaning Products
Instead, consider eco-friendly ones made from botanically derived ingredients. Or, better yet, try cleaning with white vinegar. It's cheap, nontoxic, and leaves no harmful residue for dogs to lick. It works safely and effectively to clean and disinfect a variety of surfaces around your animal house, from windows to toilets.
5. Skip the Hand SanitizerÂ
If you're a neatnik who likes to swab your mitts with hand sanitizer between dog walks, consider this: Most brands contain toxic Triclosan, an antibacterial agent that's harmful to people and the environment. (It's been strongly linked to endocrine problems, immune system weakness, and uncontrolled cell growth.) Switch to a safer sanitizer that's Triclosan-free, such as CleanWell. (It's great for swabbling your dog's paws, too).
6. Just Say "No" to Toxic Pesticides
As long as you're minimizing poisonous chemicals around the house, consider using natural pesticides. They really work without posing a hazard to pets, people, or the planet. Diatomaceous earth kills roaches and fleas, yet it's totally nontoxic. Meanwhile, to prevent mosquitoes from bugging your best friend (or you), shampoo with grooming products containing nontoxic Neem oil, a biopesticide.
7. Defur in the Great Outdoors
Take advantage of this lovely springtime weather by visiting a nearby park with your canine companion and bringing a handy deshedding tool (such as the FurMinator) to groom your dog, so it's not a boring indoor chore. Leave the shedded hairs out there on the grass, and birds --Â nature's own industrious architects -- will quickly repurpose these bits of fluff to use in building their nests. Alfresco grooming also saves the energy it would've required to run your vacuum cleaner had you done the chore indoors!
8. Dog Adoption Is the Noblest Form of Recycling
If there's room in your animal house, please visit your local animal shelter and select a buddy for your best buddy. They'll keep each other company while you're away from home -- and you'll always have the special satisfaction of knowing that you saved a life on Earth Day.
So how are you observing Earth Day this year? Lets us know in the comments!

Pet Photo Tips For PAWsitively PURRfect Photos!
Professional dog photographers can do wonders when taking photos of your 4-legged loved ones. Â In addition to taking incredible photos that you'll treasure forever, professional photographer Jayme was kind enough to offer up some expert tips on how to have the most successful pet-inclusive photo shoot. Here are some helpful hints from a pro:Â
Don't stress. You're trying so hard to get your pet to pay attention, face the camera, strike the perfect pose...but it's probably not going to happen. Just relax, have fun and accept that you're going to love the photos because you love your pet.
Avoid flash. This will always cause red eye in pets and the noise and brightness can be scary, too!
Work in the right light. Obviously, day time is best. A sunny or slightly overcast day will provide you with tons of natural light without being too bright. First thing in the morning is good since the sun most likely won't be out in full force. Late afternoon works great, too, just avoid the bright mid-day sun.
Make it interesting. Your dog doesn't always have to be perfectly centered in your frame of view, mix it up and get some pics that are really close up with others from farther away. Try focusing on their noses (if your dog has a big snout it will create a nice depth in the photo). Finding it difficult to get Max to go where you need him to go? Instead of repositioning him, move yourself so he appears in your frame exactly where you want him to be.
Get down on their level. Take shots from all different angles; from above looking down, below looking up, don't be afraid to get down on the ground to snap shots from their level.
Choose the right background. If your dog is black, avoid dark backgrounds. If your dog is white, place them against a dark or colourful backsplash. Bright green, grassy backgrounds provide contrasts and the beauty of nature. Blue skies also make for beautiful photo backdrops as well.
Pick the right spot. The dog park seems like an obvious choice, but this can actually be tricky since there are so many potential distractions at hand! Other dogs, other people, games of fetch and tussles. Â Consider a regular park or an open field. Better yet, utilize your space at home and snap your photos in the front or back yard, this way you can remove any distractions and don't have to worry about other dogs or people.
Catch a candid moment. A prized photo doesn't have to be a premeditated one. If Fido's lounging adorably in the sun by a window, snap a pic and the sun should provide enough natural light to avoid using the flash. Want to catch your pet mid-play? Take as many subsequent photos as your camera will allow and you'll surely snap some great ones!
Be prepared. Make sure to have plenty of treats on hand to distract, bribe and reward compliance. Be sure to bring water to keep everyone hydrated (yourself included) and some of your pup's favourite toys to keep them busy or to get their attention for a perfect pose. And don't forget poop bags! Like any trip to the park, you should also have a doggie first aid kit handy since any outdoor adventure comes with the risk of injury.Â
Just keep in mind that this should be a fun bonding experience for all and that the photos don't have to be perfect, just sincere. After all, you're going to love them either way!

Rocker Tommy Lee Adopts a Dog
Motley Crueâs drummer Tommy Lee and girlfriend Sofia proudly introduced their new puppy Bowie to their home. Named after infamous rocker David Bowie because of his âcrazy gray-green eyes,â Bowie (the dog) was living in a shelter with three other dogs before being adopted. When Lee and his lady made the decision to get a dog, they made a trip to East Valley in Van Nuys and set their sights on the Chiweenie. Lee told Rolling Stone that when he saw Bowie, he said, âOh my God, we gotta get this guy a home. Who could abandon this fâing thing? This is the cutest thing on the planet. I want to kill whoever let him go.â
After falling in love with his new puppy, Lee is using his fame to urge others to adopt dogs as opposed to buying them from pet stores. He publicly said that if he could adopt all of them, he would. Despite his hard-shell exterior, it seems like Lee does in fact have a compassionate side that he is using to build awareness.
Hey, That Dog Has a Blog
The Disney Channel, the nation's repository for our most important television shows, has announced that they've picked up a new series called Dog With a Blog. The show is about a cat with a Twitter account. Haha! No, it's about a dog what done have itself a blog! There's also of course a human family involved, a recently married couple and two frequently fighting step siblings. The mom is going to be played by Beth Littleford, who was on The Daily Show.  So the story is, the dog is brought into the family as a way to pacify the step-siblings but then they find out that the dog can talk and write and stuff. Interesting or a bit over the top? You decide!
Dog Hugs Outweigh Human Hugs!
Got dog fur across the fronts of your sweaters and shirts? Not surprising, according to a recent dog owner survey. Blame it on our dogs being just too embraceable to resist.
More than two-thirds (68 percent) of those surveyed say they hug their dogs more often than they hug "certain people" in their lives. Nearly one-third (30 percent) say they hug their dogs more than their relatives, and one-quarter (26 percent) say they hug their dogs more than they hug their best friends.
That's a lot of dog love, and could help explain what seems to be a rise in fur/lint rollers in stores.
But is one dog's affection gain someone else's loss? Does the good old physics law of the conservation of mass/energy apply here? Possibly. The survey of 482 U.S. adult dog owners in the Beneful Baked Delights survey found that 10 percent of women say they hug their dogs more than they hug their spouses or significant others. That probably translates to 10 percent of spouses who would like to be treated like a dog.
So what's so intoxicating about hugging a dog? The majority of owners surveyed say that hugging their dog makes them smile and feel happier. Nearly 40 percent say hugging their dog causes them to forget about the stress in their lives.
Hugging isn't just a one-way street, either. According to the survey, more than 60 percent of owners say that when they hug their dog, the dog returns their affection.
I think it's true. Dogs may not hug you back, but they embrace with their eyes and a certain way of leaning and being quiet and in the moment of the hug.
What's your hugging history? Do you hug your dog more than you do certain friends and loved ones? How does it make you feel to hug your pooch? Does it melt away stress, or just get you fretting about your black cashmere sweater suddenly turning the same color as your dog? And how does it make your dog feel? I realize certain dogs may not like being hugged. If you have a significant other, has s/he complained that your dog gets too much of your affection?Â
We say go for it. Dog hugs are tops for us. Now go hug your dog!
Miley, Liam, And Floyd Go For A Walk In Toluca Lake!
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth enjoyed some family bonding time as they took Floyd for a walk yesterday.
Floyd seemed to be enjoying his trot through Toluca Lake, and he looks absolutely gorgeous!
No wonder Miley got him into modeling.
Liam looks okay tooâŠ.we guess. LOL!
CutenessâŠOVERLOAD!
Some pet owners have decided to treat the doggies like toddlers (don't we all!) and let them enjoy some fun on swing sets.
Fortunately, no Great Danes or Mastiffs were swung! HA!
Check out this super cute video (above) and see these dogs in action.
